just started reading the books but had a question about why Yen was so hell-bent on finding a way to get pregnant if Geralt was sterile. was there someone else in the picture that she was planning on settling down with?

I'm trying to write a spoiler free comment but it's hard to explains some story dinamics without being too specific. Anyway, she always wanted to be a mother and being a sorceress prevented her from becoming one. There was another person for a brief moment in Yennefer's life (I'm not going to delve into this episode since it shapes her relationship with Geralt), but it was never related to her desire to be a mother. Her story with Geralt, the fact that they were both sterile is one of many jokes destiny likes to play on them, and it's destiny that binds their lives with a daughter who didn't come into the picture "naturally".
