Why meditate?

In game, meditation passes the time and restocks the player's potions and bombs. But why does a witcher meditate, according to the books?

I don't think they do meditate in the books. It's not something I remember reading. Unless it's just mental preparation for an upcoming battle. But, I certainly don't recall it being in the books.

I have been thinking about this myself. I have not read the books yet but does meditation serve as an alternative to sleeping due to the mutations that the Witchers underwent?

Strange. I would have thought that since meditation has been a game feature since the first witcher game, it'd be something reflective of the books.

Maybe meditating just works better in games than actually sleeping. If I remember correctly, Geralt did prepare for the fights in the books, so maybe meditating reflects that. Just a wild guess.
