New to the game! Crashing every time in game

It crashes within 10 seconds every single time, regardless of whether I try to load a save or start a new game. Yesterday it worked for about 20 min and I saved and went to bed, but now it won't let me do anything. If anybody's good at this stuff I'd be really really happy if you could help me!

Here's the log:

Welcome to the Forums, Drekifaeddur! Please post your system specs, Windows version, etc. You can try the following to start with:

0.) Uninstall any and all mods if using any.

1.) Verify the integrity of the game cache through Steam.

2.) Reinstall your GPU drivers using either Nvidia or AMD reference drivers (direct from their website), and install using the CLEAN installation option.

3.) Install / repair all of the redistributables that come with the game. (They should be in a folder called "redist")

Hi, I've done all of those things and it didn't help :/

Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 15063) (15063.rs2_release.170317-1834)
Language: Swedish (Regional Setting: Swedish)
System Manufacturer: ASUS
System Model: All Series
BIOS: 1007
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4670K CPU @ 3.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 16322MB RAM
Page File: 4224MB used, 20098MB available
Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS
DirectX Version: DirectX 12
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 770

Hm. I would send this into CDPR Support if you have not done so already:

http://en.cdprojektred.com/contact-support/

1.) In the interim, can you tell me if the game is installed anywhere under Program Files or Program Files(x86)?

2.) Try right-clicking on the game's .EXE and selecting "Run as administrator".

3.) Try manually installing DirectX 11 through Microsoft.com

4.) What driver version are you using, and where did you get them?

I sent it yesterday, no answer yet =(

the game is installed under neither, it's in my steamapps folder which is in a games folder in my secondary hard drive E:

I had already tried to make it run as administrator :/ no difference.

I'll try to download DirectX 11

I'm switching video drivers back and forth between 381.89 and 382.33 just to be able to play. Every time I restart my PC I need to switch to the other one.. over and over.

Support is very busy with the Gwent Beta, but they'll get back to you. Feel free to follow up in a week or so, if you don't get a response.

This...should not be necessary, and if you have multiple driver versions simultaneously installed, that could be part of the problem right there. Whatever is causing this is 100% a system config issue; we just need to nail down what it is. Firstly, create a Hidden Administrator Account with Elevated Access.

1.) Using this new account, ensure again that the game is not under Program Files or Program Files(x86). If so, you'll need to move it. If you were using a protected account, it's possible that all of your files and directories are "virtual paths".

2.) Gut your drivers using Display Driver Uninstaller, then install only one version, ensuring you tick the CLEAN installation option. (I'm using 381.65, myself, without issue.)

3.) After reinstalling your GPU drivers, please also run the installation / repair for each of the following:

DirectX 9.0c
DirectX 11 / 12
Visual Studio Redistributable 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015
, and 2017, both the x86 and x64 version of each.
Visual C++ Redistributable 2010 through 2017, both x86 and x64 for each.
.NET Framework
XNA Framework

At the bare minimum, this will ensure your system is in "gaming shape". Something on your system is blocking your functionality. I find the switching between two driver versions thing very curious...will research.

Hi again!

My game is installed in a "Games" folder on my secondary hard drive, along with all my other steamapps.

I also tried uninstalling the display drivers with the program you linked, but after restarting my PC I still have the very same issue, need to install a different driver version each time I restart if I want to play The Witcher 3.

I followed your list of things to repair and check and I did it, but no difference =(

Thanks for sticking with me on this, really troublesome stuff because I am loving this game...

This is the issue, though I'm still very confused as to how or why this would work. Something is definitely up.

Where did you purchase the system / who built it? Do you have the ability to contact them for customer support?

Are you on a laptop, by some weird chance? (It sounds like a desktop.)

Can you post the full directory path of the installation, beginning with the drive letter? e.g. Mine is: C:\RPG\TW3 - Wild Hunt GOTY\...

I ordered it back in 2014 or so and have never had any issues with any other game :(

I'm using a stationary computer.

This is my install path: E:\Games\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\The Witcher 3

Your system must have a significant issue with its configuration somewhere. (Read: "You system gots ISSUES, yo!") It's likely that TW3 is simply the first game to tax it hard enough that the issue appeared. The switching driver versions thing is boggling me; I can't make heads or tails of it. There is literally no scenario I can come up with that would make that work. It shouldn't work. It shouldn't even make a difference. I'm guessing this is a weird Windows 10 issue. (And I still use Windows 7, so I'm no help there.)

I really recommend you take this up with CDPR Support directly:

http://en.cdprojektred.com/contact-support/

They're swamped with Gwent facacta at the moment, but feel free to follow up with another ticket every week or so if you don't receive a response.

In the meantime, let's attack this from a slightly different angle. List a bunch of the most demanding (hardware-wise) games that you are able to play without issues.

Still have the same issue :( I'll try to write them again, they didn't respond the first time I wrote.

Other games I have run without issue is Starcraft 2 Legacy of the Void, The Elder Scrolls Online, Skyrim, GTA V, Just Cause 2, Battlefield 4, Halo Wars 2, League of Legends and a few others. And keep in mind this game runs flawlessly as well when I switch driver versions.

Hm. TES:O and Battlefield 4 are both in the same general arena. If they work without the problem, then there must be something interfering with the game. I would recommend simply leaving your present drivers installed. While swapping back and forth may work for one go, doing that constantly may be resetting or even embedding the issue.

New adventures:

1.) What version of the game did you first start the playthrough in, or did you begin with Geralt Level 1 under 1.31?

2.) How heavily modded was the game in the past? Most specifically, did you ever use a lighting overhaul, SweetFX preset, etc.? Are sure you have uninstalled (not simply disabled) all mods?

3.) Does the crash occur if you stay on the main menu or begin a new game?

4.) Is any of your hardware overclocked (GPU, CPU, RAM, VRAM)? (This includes "factory overclocking" by the manufacturer.) If so, return all hardware to default clock speeds.
