How do I get dmg reduction on block effects without a certain weapon?

I really only use sword and spells so I want to get dmg reduction on block but I can't find it in the skills menu as of now (lvl 17 so far). I tried using earth runes but they don't work unless you have dmg reduction attributes on a sword, so my question is this; what items do I need to get dmg reduction, and what skills do I need to grab? Thank you.

You can also get damage reduction (aka Armor) from armor, gloves, trousers, and boots. Here's a guide to what each skill unlocks: http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/The_Witcher_2_skills. The benefit of damage reduction skills is written either as "-x% damage received" or "-x% damage taken". I scanned the list, and here are the skills which provide damage reduction.

Swordsman: Tough Guy, Invincible and Combat Acumen.

Alchemy: Taster and Amplification.

Magic: Magic Intensification.

There is a talent in the training tree that I'd recommend getting two talents in (it offers the ability to block from all directions on the first talent and 100% damage reduction on block while vigor is full on the second upgrade). Other than that, I think all talents cmdr_flashheart mentioned increase armour and not dmg reduction on block.

I think the training talent, earth runes and sword bonuses are the only 3 options for dmg reduction on block. A quick search through the game .xml files mentions only two sets of armour that offer dmg reduction on block and I haven't seen either in-game myself.

I found this sword in Vergan, huge damage reduction.
