upcoming Blender version 2.69 features FBX Support
Blender as a free alternative to 3dsMax did not have an importer for the FBX format up to now.
But the upcoming Blender version 2.69 (Release Candidate is already out: http://www.blender.org/development/release-logs/blender-269/) will feature FBX import and export.
As the sooner-or-later-to-happen Redkit patch will also feature FBX support (see here: http://forums.cdprojektred.com/threads/707-REDkit-updates) this may be interesting news.
As it says here http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:Ref/Release_Notes/2.69/Addons the FBX importer will not yet support armartures and animations, but I don't think this excludes Blender usability for Redkit projects.
Update: The official release of Blender 2.69 is now available: http://www.blender.org/download//
