Vigor not needed to parry. So what does the skill "Guard" do now?

And no, this isn't another one of those "how do you parry in this game?" thread. I know how to parry and riposte.

This is something else.

I posted this on the Steam forums but I'm hoping one of you guys have played the game and is more experienced than most of the Steam community.

Vigor not needed to parry. So what does the skill "Guard" do now?

Body:

I took a screenshot ( http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile.../?id=856219708 ) of the skill tree and it says there: "The amount of vigor needed to block incoming blows: -25%"

But we all know the patched version did away w the "you need vigor to block" mechanic.

This is now very confusing. What does Guard exactly do now? Is it a useless skill?

UPDATE:

A friend asked what the problem was and so I had to summarize and rephrase it:

Vigor is not needed anymore to parry but the Guard skill (according to its description) shaves of 25% of the vigor needed to parry even though you can parry perfectly with zero vigor.

UPDATE 2:

Because of this:

"On paper, the previous system seems to make more sense. But here's the catch: Guard level 2 makes the Vigor drain so negligible (specially if you gained extra Vigor points from other skills) that the disadvantage of not being allowed to parry once you've run out of Vigor becomes simply cosmetic."

I get it now. Parrying will consume less vigor (but you can parry even if you've 0). I thought parrying wouldn't affect Vigor in any way with the new patch.
