Get Junior ALWAYS Red X in Journal no matter what you do??

Dear Witcher 3 Players

I am an avid Witcher 3 player and well I want to finish The Witcher 3 as well as possible. For me this also means NO RED X es in my journal.
For now I have been able to avoid any RED X es in my journal but now I am at a point where I just CAN NOT avoid it. I am not sure if this is because the MAIN quest GET JUNIOR and side quest The Gangs of Novigrad are bugged OR if I did the wrong combination of choices / events and thus am doomed to fail.

First of all, its important to mention SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT WARNING WARNING SPOILER ALERT!!!

First of all let me describe the choices I made and then what issue I am encountering.
1. I did talk to CLEAVER and accepted the Gangs of Novigrad quest.
2. I first searched the HIDEOUT.
3. THEN the Casino (I played two card players, then went upstairs when the guy asked me to follow him, then finished those guys, then after finishing him I went downstairs finished a COUPLE of guards but not all of them, rushed outside, asked in the Cleavers Dwarves who then with me mopped up the rest, which were all the guys again because they respawned) This completed the Casino gangs of Novigrad quest with a green marker!
4. THEN the Arena, I pretended to be ZDENEKI got the papers from went inside, looked around, then went outside again, asked in Cleavers Dwarves, then mopped up EVERYONE in the Arena, got everything I needed to INCLUDED the HIDDEN Stash (Which I was able to find, open the wall with the torch etc etc) This Completed the Arena part of The Gangs of Novigrad with a green marker!
5. After this I talked to Cleaver and thus finishing The Gangs of Novigrad with all green markers and receiving a nice sum of cash.
6. OFcourse I have also done the Count Reuvens Treasure Quest, I got the information about the TReasure from Reuven, fought my way out of there, given this information to Dijkstra, also found out Whoreson Junior is working for the Redanians, told this info to Dijkstra etc etc. All quest items are marked GREEN.
7. Talked to Roache, went with him to meet King Radovid, Got the information I needed (Whoreson Junior being in Oxenfurt)

Now is the moment where one must enter Whoresons Junior Compound. There are two official ways to do this, and one unofficial way to do this.
1. Go through the front door, cant do anything else but kill the guards at the door, get the keys, go inside. As soon as you have done this you get a RED X or two in your journal because you did not use the SECRET PAssage into Whoresons Junior compound.
2. Go through the SECRET Passage into Whoresons Junior compound. Depending on the way you played it there is a GREAT chance that there is a grate over the entrance to the SECRET Passage and thus whatever you do you CAN NOT enter it this way. From what I have figured out is if you do it the way I did it you ALWAYS get the grate covering the entrance. If you do it the other way and thus NOT Getting the grate then you get other RED X es in your journal because you did not do certain quests (If I am correct its the Gangs of Novigrad quest)
3. The unofficial way is to go to Whoresons Junior Compound, but instead of going through the front gate OR though the SECRET Passage you go around his compound, find a barrel climb up the barrel and then on a merchants stand or something and then JUMP OVER the wall thus ENTERING Whoresons Junior compound, If you do this you do NOT get ANY RED Xes, you do not get any mention of the SECRET Passage or the front door.

I did option NR 3, Jumped over the wall, killed EVERYONE there, did a search of the bottom part of Whoresons Juniors place, I even went downstairs to where you would ENTER the compound in SECRET when using the SECRET Passage, but I could not open the GATE to enter that place because it was locked.

After this I went upstairs, encountered Whoreson Junior, did the whole CIRI quest part, and then you are left with the Choice, Either KILL Whoreson Junior or Let him LIVE.

Up until THIS Choice I have every single journal entry in GREEN, NO RED Xes anywhere. But now, whatever CHOICE I make here I get a RED X.
If I choose KILL Whoreson Junior I get the Journal Entry Use the SECRET passage to reach juniors hideout with a RED X !! (this entry was not there before because I jumped the wall)
If I choose to Spare Whoreson Juniors life I get a REDX at the Journal Entry "Kill Whoreson Junior"

So no matter what I do I get a RED X and this I just can not tolerate.

What I want to ask you guys is if there is anyone who knows if this all is a BUG in the game?
Is there a way to AVOID these RED Xes??

Just for your information, I have been reading TONS of forum post, guides ETC ETC to get an answer to this problem but NONE could give me a clear answer.

I hope you will be able to help me with this matter!!

I dont know if this is a topic that I should post in the Story Locations and character discussion threat or in the Tech Support thread thus I am going to do both.
If a moderator reads this then you can of course remove one of my posts or help me put my post in the correct part of the forum.

I tried to play my first game like you do now. After too many reloads I just quit doing that, it began to disturb my mental health and I couldn't enjoy the game anymore. At the end I had to give up with few failed/"uncompleted" quests too because of some bugs.

This game is so huge that you just have to be merciful to yourself. Just enjoy the game and don't let few red Xs destroy that joy

There is away to get rid of the red text lines in that quest. But you have to do some thing different. I'm pasting this quote from another thread I replied to. Refer last paragraph to avoid the red text line in get Junior quest

The gangs of Novigrad Is a quest that must be run before/or during and before completing “get Junior” and “Count Reuven's Treasure” (ideally while running either of those) The red tag line for not talking to Clever will appear if you don’t go back andtalk to him after you have raided the Casino or Fight Club or the whole “Gangs of Novigrad” quest fail if you complete those two above mentioned quests and don't speak to him.

Best way of ensuring no red text lines for all thosequests is:

*Look for the treasure first and complete that quest

*Then run Gangs of Novigrad Quest, but before raiding the casino/fightclub visit Junior’s town house on Temple Isle Bridge (Cleaver’s gang will have raided it, but by going there it prevents a red line text later in the Get Junior quest) Raid both the Casino and Fight club and report back to Clever to complete the quest. Gangs of Novigrad quest should now complete with no red text line.

*Later to prevent the red text line “use secret passage to enter Junior’s hide out” (this is cause his goons at the gate will recognise you from raiding Junior’s other two venues) simply don’t approach them and use the key Rodovid gave you, but go round the compound till you find an area near where two horses are tied. You can jump and climb onto the small wooden stable and then vault over the wall into the compound from there and it will prevent the above mentioned red text lineappearing in the quest log.

Just a heads up. I have completed this game to full extent, but there are 2 red text lines that will appear no matter what you do

* The first is on Skellege where you have to kill a leshan (red text will appear no matter what option you choose)
* The second is a red text line that appears when killing the vampire in Oxenfort.

Both these quests will end up with red text lines no matter what you do.

I have done every quest in this game and have no other red text line other than the two I mentioned, it is possible to,complete every quest in the game without red text lines, besides those two as there is no option around them. But for the rest of the games quests there are ways.

*side note. To later prevent prevent a red text line in the quest "poet under pressure" make sure when you running the missing treasure quest that you get the witch hunter to reveal the location of the treasure to Gerald. To do this unfortunately you have to allow them to torture Triss. This will make him reveal the treasure location (if you chose the correct dialog options) and you can get the key when he is killed. This will make Driska extra happy when then quest is complete by Gerald giving both the key and location. Later during "poet under pressure" you will have the option to get help from him. If you don't do what I mentioned a red quest line saying "get help from Driska" will appear in the quest log after poet under pressure is complete.

Also not taking the megascope crystal to either Yen or Triss but taking its staight to Rodevid will cancel out the red quest text line for the "most wanted quest"

OK Witcher 3 Players!! I FINALLY have found a solution to the problem I described which allows you to USE THE SECRET passage while ALSO doing the gangs of Novigrad quest and other things related!

First of al I will say again SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT.

Alright, here is my description how I solved this problem.
I remembered from earlier when exploring Oxenfurt that there is this building (think this is a building belonging to Witch Hunters) in Oxenfurt ,quite near Whoresons Mansion, which allows you passage to the sewers in OXenfurt . I suspected that this portcullis (which blocks the way when entering from this building to the sewer) would connect to the SECRET Passage and lead to Whoresons Mansion.

One CAN enter this buildings compound by climbing over roofs (via building near swordmaker which is rather close). This is REALLY difficult and dangerous but I DID manage to enter it and explore it. That is why I remembered it from before. (I know I still have samegames from me standing on the roofs of the buildings NEAR this buildings compound so I can prove it if needed!)

To get through all this you need three things. It is bending the rules a little bit but I could not find an other way around this. This is what you need.
1. For version 1.12.1 Debug console enabler

3/ The Toggle Unlock Tool which one can use to open/unlock doors

If you have installed all three items correctly you can enter the the (Witch hunters) building compound by unlocking the gate, entering it then going inside the building, going downstairs, finally entering the sewers and then unlocking the portcullis and then going on.

IF you do all the things I have shown you CAN Kill Whoreson Junior and do the Gangs of Novigrad quest AND complete the "Use the secret passage to get to juniors hideout" (thus NOT getting a RED X for that when killing Whoreson Junior) without getting ANY RED X!!!!)

The weird thing is, I have done EXACTLY what you described in your post above. Even jumping over the wall (like I described) and thus NOT getting the "use the secret passage to enter bla bla" when I encounter Whoreson Junior and KILL HIM The the "use secret passage to enter Whoresons Hideout" DOES appear but then with a RED X. If I let him live then the quest part "Kill Whoreson Junior" gets a RED X.

SO! Doing it my way I am able to do EVERY quest, with all options GREEN if I just Kill Whoreson Junior!

I wonder how you where able to do it while keeping everything green. (when you did it which version of the game where you using??)

When was the mega patch 1.11......I started a new playthrough I thought it was fixed, but it was not. I had been following this routine since patch 1.08. I sat a whole day trying multiple options finally got it rite. I do this for all my play throughs now and it always works. (I'm on playthrough 7 ATM ). I think cause those 3 quest cross over each other and depending how you go through them there is obviously a route that I follow that helps. I always play those quests in the order I posted above

Like I said I have no other red text lines except from the other 2 quests I mentioned.....and believe me I tried....there is no way not to get them for those quests. But from what I have heard and found out those 2 quest are bugged.

i was hyper obsessed to not get red text lines, but I can live with those 2 cause there is nothing I can do about them, but they have been bugged since way back and have not been fixed yet.

How you describe the earlier steps is how I always do it as well. And I never had a grate blocking this secret passage.

The grate appears if you do either/or Casino and Arena together with the Cleaver henchmen. You did not. The grate shouldn't be there.

Thus I see no point in the rage and attempt to do it by glitching over walls and suchlike.

Hey, in fact, in my current save, I am at JUST that spot and will go and look at the secret passage right now and then report back.

Report:

Up until this I had done during this quest:
- looted the cat school schematic some long time ago in sewers beneath Oxenfurt blacksmith's house
- visited Whoreson's house in Novigrad
- done Casino without the Cleaver henchies
- done Arena posting at Zdenek (without the Cleaver henchies)
- talked to Cleaver to finish Gangs of Novigrad
- diverted myself doing some random ??s and stuff.

Activities for this test:
- fasttraveled to Oxenfurt
- talked with the Whoreson henchies at the main entrance ("here about the girls", "I am new")
- walked to blacksmith's house, basement
- NO grate
- blew the way into the Whoreson basement open. All green checkmarks. No glitching necessary.

QED.



Did you skip the "talk to the Whoreson henchies at the main entrance" step or something?

But seriously, really, seriously. If I were playing this game with an OCD kind of stance and did fret about single Red Xs in the midst of the dozen quest stages of each of the 400 complete quests, I'd go mental after developing a giant migraine, and then I'd probably be so frustrated that I would have to move on and play something else instead.

And also, seriously, if you glitch around and climb over walls instead of using doors like the quests intend you to do, then don't be surprised if quest objectives go wonky. That's like "oh, I used the explore anywhere mod and I fell into the ground! CDPR MUST fix that!" - it's silly. Plain silly. With your method that you posted that included use of glitching through locked doors, using mods, and so on, I expect wonkyness of quite extreme levels when you do that later mission that takes place in that spot.

Yeah, I did Gangs of Novigrad to get the Cleaver quest, but then it failed the Whoreson tasks about searching his hideouts, even though if you went and searched on your own you would have failed or not even gotten that other quest.
