I have a backlog of secondary quests, scavenger hunts and contracts I'd like to clear before I advance too far in levels. Is there any one of the 4 sub-quests that are time-sensitive? I know that one of them updates according to whether it's day or night.

No, just do what you want and start Final Preparations when you are ready. Quest update is related to Ciri quest (you are supposed to meet her at appointed hour so if it's night you have to wait till morning).
