Game crashes, distorted sound, forces manual reboot

Dear all,

I'm aware that I am just another person having a problem with The Witcher crashing on my system, but after trying out all the advice I could find online, I'm still hoping somebody has a solution to my specific problem.

My system:

OS version: Windows 7 (64-bit)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
Amount of RAM: 8086MB
Graphic card: Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000
Screen resolution: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Graphics driver version: 9.17.10.4229
Additionally a NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M, driver version: 391.35

The problem:
This can happen ten seconds or ten minutes into the game without any specific cause I can see. The sound of the game gets distorted, simultaneously the game freezes. Sometimes the screen (of the game) goes black, sometimes the mouse disappears. I can not do anything, e. g. open the task manager, which means I have to do a hard reboot in order to be able to do anything on the computer again.

Things I have already tried:
- used compatibility mode (Windows XP Service Pack 2)
- played in window mode
- forced vsync on my graphic card
- made all graphic settings as low as possible
- reduced the number of save games (not that there were that many to begin with)
- set my high-performance Nvidia processor as the preferred one for the game
- started it as administrator
- checked DPC latency and deactivated my network adapter which appears to cause a lot of it (updated driver didn't change it)
- updated sound and video drivers
- deactivated all sound effects for my playback device
- set my playback device to Surround instead of Stereo
- checked my CPU and GPU temperature which was fine until the game crashed
- uninstalled game and installed the gog backup version

If any of you have any idea, I'd be pleased to hear it.

Thank you in advance!
