Ranked Matches and Ranking



We’ve just released a new update for GWENT: The Witcher Card Game, and with it we’re adding some of the biggest new features since the start of the Closed Beta. One of these features, and one we’d like to tell you a bit more about is ranked matches.

Ranked match is a new, season-based competitive game mode which unlocks as soon as you reach level 10. The main difference between Casual Match and Ranked Match is that winning a game, will also earn you rating points. These are used to determine two things: one is player rating -- the basis for you placing on the worldwide leaderboard, alongside other GWENT players, the other is your rank.

You initial rating and rank are determined based on how well you do in games before you unlock ranked play. There are currently a total of 15 ranks available in the game, with rank 15 being the highest. For every rank you gain, as well as for the highest rank at the end of each season, you will receive a reward. These can range from Ore and Cards to Card Scraps, and more. The higher the rank you reach, the bigger the reward you’ll get.

While winning a game will increase your rating points, losing will have the opposite effect, meaning your rating, and possibly your standing on the leaderboards, will drop. What will not decrease, however, is your rank. Let’s say you are currently rank 5. Even if you lose enough games for your rating points to fall below the threshold required to gain rank 5, you will not drop below rank 5 until the end of the season. We thought dropping ranks in addition to rating would make things unnecessarily complicated. Since you only receive the reward for gaining each rank once, as well as for the highest rank at the end of the season, we decided on keeping ranks persistent.

  • Crones now properly summon copies of themselves.
  • Cards drawn by Giant Toad should now animate correctly.

  • Sigrdrifa's passive ability will only be triggered by your own resurrections.
  • Ermion will now make you discard 2 cards before drawing 2 cards.

  • Reinforced Siege Tower and Reinforced Ballista will now trigger their own abilities when promoted.

  • A leaderboard for the top 1,000 players has been added to the game.
  • The Vs screen has been upgraded significantly.
  • Numerous redundant spaces fixed in several tooltips.
  • Numerous minor tooltip and text fixes across all languages.
  • Spawned cards should now appear much more quickly.
  • Fixed the translation of Permadeath in Russian.
  • Countdown timers should now take less time to display.
  • Added information about being able to resurrect Permadeath units to certain cards.
  • Reworked Victory Screen to improve the flow of match rewards.
Tutorial:
  • Changed tutorial flow - added new sub-menu for choosing specific tutorials.
  • Added card collection tutorial.
  • Deck building tutorial now grants a reward of 50 scraps upon completion.

Scheduled maintenance of GWENT's servers



We are performing a scheduled maintenance of GWENT's servers. During the server downtime, we will deploy the newest update including Ranked Mode as well as revamped XP and reward systems. As a consequence of the changes the update introduces, your player level will be set to 10 (if you were below that level, nothing will be changed). The maintenance should conclude at 3PM CET.

Demolished Deck [Midinváerne with Gwent contest - 5th task]

Never, ever try to fool a troll. (It may seem easy enough, but the consequences can be rather heavy.) A bard once tried to buy some cards from our friendly troll, but he had no money! The troll eventually realised what had happened, and only the bard's nimble reflexes saved him from a crushing defeat. The bard’s deck however was nearly obliterated. All that’s left are the fragments of three cards. Would you care to help us identify the remains?

Below you can see five somewhat enlarged fragments from the five Gwent cards. Can you decipher where these pieces belong and tell us the names of these cards? Once you have figured it out, send your answer to this special email: midinvaerneEN@kaermorhen.com. The authors of the first three entries to contain all three correct answers will be rewarded with a point.

It has come to our attention that the now-obsolete cdprojektred.com forum database might have been accessed and copied from our server by an unauthorized party sometime in March 2016. It’s the old database we used to run the forum before we migrated to the login system powered by our sister company -- GOG.com.

The Conjunction of the Spheres [Midinváerne with Gwent contest - 3rd task]

Witchers have never been needed as much as they are now! Monsters from other dimensions have invaded our world and are wreaking havoc! As we face this danger, it has been decided to post a witcher contract. Whoever gets rid of the forums' beasts will get one point. (Reward is set -- no haggling!)

There are four Gwent cards hidden deep within the Gwent forums (all of our cards are hidden in English section of the forums). Search through the threads and explore all the posts. When you spot a card, take down the address of that specific post. (Click the post number to get the link.) Once you have found all the cards, send your complete list of links to our email: midinvaerneEN@kaermorhen.com. The first three, fully correct answers will be rewarded with a point.

Sharpen your swords -- look for trails and scents -- ready potions and oils -- this will not be an easy encounter. But we believe in you -- you’re professionals. Happy hunting!

Unfortunately, our stalwart companions have reached the point that it’s now impossible to understand them. We need your help again!

Below we present three sets of jumbled letters. Rearrange them correctly to spell the names of Gwent cards. Alzur’s Test [Midinváerne with Gwent contest - 1st task]

Not many know that Alzur, the great wizard known for his skill in creating riddles, was a passionate Gwent player, as well. Among the curiosities he left behind are the golems that roam the dark dungeons and fortresses, hidden deep beneath the mountains. These intelligent guardians await adventurers, whom they will riddle with questions and offer rewards for correct answers. We’ve managed to reach one of these amazing creatures, and received some interesting riddles from him -- not to mention the prizes.

Attention all players!

The winter solstice, also known as Midinváerne is coming! It is said by the elven elders that these nights are infused with magic and wonder. Gather with us by the Gwent tables while we await the longest night of the year.

To make the wait even more exciting, and to thank you for all your support testing Gwent, we have prepared a small surprise for you!

Over the next weeks we will be hosting a forum-exclusive competition with really cool prizes. In order to be able to participate, the account has to be registered before the date of this announcement.

The competition will start today at 6PM CET when we will announce the first task and will consist of six tasks, each announced on a separate day. For each task, the three fastest users to send us the correct answer via email will get a point counting towards the final score. Three users with the highest scores will win the prizes:

  • Fixed an issue whereby the "Hide Cards" button caused one of the cards to be redrawn rather than all cards to be hidden.
  • It's now possible to scroll through the Main Menu options.
  • "Cancel" button after playing a card with targeting ability removed from the UI.
  • Visual effects will no longer provide clues about the cards in your opponent's hand/graveyard.
  • Fixed issue whereby the game would become blocked under certain circumstances while in the Deck Builder.
  • Fixed issue whereby Commander's Horn would sometimes not play any effects.
  • Fixed issue whereby Ele'yas would not be buffed if a Commando Neophyte died right after spawning.
  • Fixed some issues with Shani ability priority.
  • Fixed issue with Tuirseach Axeman ability priority while affected by Weather.
  • Fixed issue with various Medic priorities related to weather.
  • Fixed issue whereby War Longship would still deal damage, even when its strength had reached 0.
Game polishes:

  • Fixed typo in name of the author of the Ciri card (Anna Podedworna).
  • Fixed Tordarroch Shieldsmith's tooltip in German.
  • Fixed Ice Giant's tooltip in Polish.
  • Fixed Arachas Behemoth's tooltip in Polish.
  • Fixed Priscilla's tooltip - it now correctly states she can draw any cards, not just units.
  • Improved "mulligan" scrolling mechanics.
  • Improved Russian font, thus eliminating a few issues.
  • Numerous minor tooltip polishes (typos, punctuation etc.).
