negative effects:-lowers attack so you have hard time hitting enemies-lowers defense-lowers potion effect, f.e. swallow regen doesnt work as good as when you have 0 toxicity level, white raffard's decoction heal is minimal-vitality damage
in books there's is heavy swearing but much less of it and it perfectly suits the situation. in game the language is not the actual problem but how frequently you hear it. also when we think of a thug or even a dwarf archetype we imagine a coarse, direct man who wont abstain from using hard language. try to define the personality of each of those npcs. you'll expect them swearing but when you actually hear it, plain and uncensored, you are shocked. generally i dont have anything against swearing when its justified by the situation but when i hear someone swearing and i dont know the context it seriously hurts my ears. there must be a reason to swear. only a boor or unmature person will randomly throw curses. we should remember that we dont know the mood of those npcs or context of their discussions. its just a game so it limits us in this matter.i believe this disappointment is just an initial reaction when you first play through act 1 and visit act 2 slums. too many simple peasents and thugs in there. later you'll encounter higher social classes and dialogues will change radicaly.

i guess he knew he had very little time till he pass out due to blood loss so he deatl with her without thinking. there dont have to be a reason, he just did it and it worked. beside her mind was like an animal. she didnt recieve any proper study, she didnt know anything about culture, language. how an animal would react to bite in the neck? calm down?
I was just surfing around to find Spanish copies of the Witcher books on sale and I found out that a new publisher has released some new editions in Spain. The publisher is Alamut. Anyway, the new edition of Last Wish in Spanish has some interesting cover art that show's their version of Geralt's face and I wanted to see what people thought. I kind of like it...looks a little older than in the game, and maybe a little more human (click to enlarge).

i asked Red on Polish section about scabbards few days ago. i asked if they could make geralt armor with scabbard models accessible. so far there's one Red reply that these models are few iterations older geralt models and for the moment they dont have proper files to make them public. at the end of the post there's usual "this (scabbards) can be done again, the other way around without editing geralt models". i asked about details but no reply yet and i'm afraid the topic will die like other scabbard topics.my idea was to do this nightmarish job i described:
i hope you understand what it will take to make scabbards for all swords. for a modder its a nightmare! -first you obviously have to make scabbard models and textures-incorporate scabbard to armor model because its not a seperate part of the modelthis means dozens and dozens of combinations. 5 armors, 14 sword models = 70 armor models, this means 70x geralt with armor models-deal with clipping issues-make a script which auto-change geralt model, every time he change a sword.-change god knows how many files in game responsible for geralt model in cutscenes and multiply it by number of models with scabbards.
i hope you guys and gals can also make a pressure on Reds in this matter. in neverwinter nights, bioware when asked about some features kept repeating that its impossible to implement and few months later community done it. i can work on this issue but i need something to begin with, i'm not experienced enough to start from the scratch. i need an example to follow.
to defeat fleders in early act 2 buy The Book of the Golden Oriole (scroll) from thaler and make black blood potions. any blood drinker or flesh eater will suffer from this potion.remember: the game is never too hard. when amnesiac witcher is too low level to defeat particular monster, look for proper potion and oil.as soon as you gain silver talents i advise to run for knockdown and stun resistances.
i dont see a reason why it shouldnt. remember that mod might not work if you are already in act 2 and surely wont work if you are in act 3. starting new game is safest way check this mod. anyway, you know how the mod works and what result you expect. if you wont recieve werewolf fur from carmen just add it to your equipment with savegame editor downloaded from this forum.
inventory improvements arent necessary at all but for some they are very comfortable. im running out of inventore space quite often with this mod. running back to inn to store goods seems fun at the beggining, later is just boring. of course if you dont feel the need for changed inventory just deleted the file baseitems.2da from /data/override folder.its normal you are getting wealthy. game is very money demanding up to the moment when you buy better armor. later your income is bigger then potential costs. i can do nothing about it, at least nothing not radical. you should be rewarded for quests after all, its just you dont have a good place to sink your fortune.my economy changes are 5 dice players who risk bigger money. if you didnt noticed it, its because the change is subtle, reasonable and realistic. dice is optional and if you play only to finish poker dice quest, total difference up to act 4 will be around 500 orens which isnt much when this value is divided by number of acts. dice poker is optional and my changes just make a way of earning money again. after AI increase in patch 1.4 many people found poker frustrating and dont play it anymore. now its frustrating but at least you can win something decent
thank you for info.bruxa resistance is set to 0.05, which means they reduce the strength of aard by 95%. guess this 5% is enough to stun. they shouldnt be stun/killed, thats whynew version 1.3 offering big changes is ready to downloaddownload link and ver 1.3 mod description can be found in first post of this topic.
with all modesty i think its a good place for a little advertisement of my mod if you feel that hard difficulty should be called easy and you need 2 more difficulty levels higher, take a look in here:http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=17884.0this mod is absolutely safe in following meaning:-it works with old savegames and wont brake anything-it affects all difficulty levels, so you can still play standard easy, medium and hard with this mod and enjoy difference-every changed thing in mod is grouped in folders for easy install and choice. if you dont like some changes you dont have to install this particular part of the mod-mod is very hard, but its tested and every battle is absolutely possible to win, no exception. now you just have to use wide range of witcher skills and equipment appropriately for battles.-its easy to delete, just remove folders created by mod and 6 files from /data/scripts/ folder-if beside of difficulty you care for realism, this mod is closer to witcher saga (without the mod you are almost godlike powerfull)-new versions are released frequently-opinions and suggestions are taken into account while modifying mod for the best resultfeel yourself invited to try. remember that you can play on original easy or medium difficulty with this mod if you dont feel ready for "reality"
depending on where you are in game you have to face a unique boss type enemy for trophy. lets say you are in act 2, you have kokacidium and skoffin, act 3 moa and woref etc. just edit their model files in djinni and give them swords in loot. when you kill them, you'll pick up swords and anything you imagine from their corpses.
well, i know i dont need aard 90% of the time but its difficult for me to judge when aard is needed for others to survive. i already reduced aard effectivness and i can guarantee you that most powerfull monsters in the game like garkain, bruxa, cementaur, kikimore warrior are stunned for mere miliseconds and knockdown doesnt allow coup-de-grace because its partially resisted. making more monsters resistant to aard would make this sign underpowered and obsolete but i can widen the list of "most powerfull monsters" so more of them will be resistant. basilisk and mutants come to mind. also a bit more resistance to lesser vampires and carrion undeads would make sense. remember that this bit more resistance would be nothing if you use place of power.thank you for your opinion, i'll update the mod.next version of mod will include higher resistances to aard on most powerfull monsters and forged swords fixes because there are many bugs in there, original bugs, not mod made.
no need to make another mod version. this mod is special because you can choose the changes you like and leave those you doesnt. open mod rar archive and you'll see 10 folders. "all_in_one" folder means installing everything at once. 9 other folders are for those who want to choose the changes themself. just unpack everything except "all_in_one" and "armor change" folder and you'll have armor bonuses. be advised that it will be much easier, maybe too much. difference between order raven armor with mod and order raven armor without it is 60% more recieved damage
my experience rewards changes are not figured out of nowhere. these are original, base values increased by same percentage for all enemies. conclusion is that kikimore worker and alp already had illogical experience rewards in original the game, with +% bonus from mod it became ridiculous. i reduced the bonus to original value but increased exp reward from very tough monsters like cementaur or garkain. cementaur - real king of the necrophages, strongest carrion undead which with mod will seriously kick your ass after %increase still gave mere 480 experience and garkain 640.now for little explanation of sign strenght decrease. it will be hard to stun or knock strongest enemies. they are not supposed to be stun/killed in one second so their resistance to aard effects is higher on all enemies by 25%. igni sign always was a one great "imba" - unbalance. beggining of the game isnt so igni focused because one has just enough energy to cast igni twice. at around level 30 you have enough energy + igni cost decrease to spam igni 6 times one after another. drink maribor forest and towny owl and you could burn everything without drawing a sword from the back. igni damage is based on enemy max hit points so high vitality monsters were hit with obscene ammounts of damage. before the mod i could hit wesper - garkain boss for 880 damage!! and that was already with 25% igni damage reduction. with original igni damage i imagine it could be 1400. that's sick.considering the fact that in late game you can spam igni and after emptying energy bar, with tawny owl you can recharge it very quickly, 6x igni spam deals around 40% enemy total health damage, leaving them with 60%. this forces a player to think, fight with both sword and signs not just igni ftw!, and sometimes when you face couple of strongest enemies in the game at a time, kite, run away a bit and avoid being surrounded. besides, whatever damage igni is doing now, if you think its small, remember that igni allows you to deal damage from distance meaning you are safe from melee damage. igni will save your life quite often, just now remember bringing tawny owli hope you'll like the result.
