Its pretty amusing, apparently there are court cases with judges getting a protractor to measure the angle of the penis relative to the body to determine whether it is too erect and is therefore porn

Why are you people getting technical on cock angles and what classifies as porn? Does that mean flaccid dicks means no porn?

This forum is a bit too much at times.

that game was 20 bucks, not 50 or 60, and held that spot for like a day or two. it certainly didnt hit blockbuster status. It merely peaked at a time when it had no competition.

http://steamcharts.com/app/341940

they compared it to The Witcher 3.

http://steamcharts.com/app/292030

on launch, TW3 had 92k peak players concurrently on Steam. this is ignoring consoles and GOG sales.

on launch, Hatred peaked at 3k concurrent players.

it may have hit the top of the steam charts for a brief 15 minutes of fame, but it did NOT get anywhere close to being a hit, not to mention it wasnt even available on consoles, which are by far bigger sellers as a platform compared to PC.

I admire the attempt, but no, this is not an AO game that went huge. it was the definition of a flash in the pan.

no it will hurt sales. Name ONE AO game that went huge.

yeah, but deadpool jumped comic book movies from pg-13 to R. Going from M to AO is more like going from R (what M has always effectively been) to unrated (essentially, in this case, x rated).

The reason you'll never see an x rated blockbuster isnt just because not that many people would ACTUALLY be interested or because we're all prudes, but because most theaters wouldnt distribute it anyways.

same goes for games. go check your locak game stop or walmart or best buy or EB games or whatever for an AO games.

no major retailer would carry it. so you'd HAVE to download it on GOG or Steam or the console's services. that would kill a TON of sales off the bat.

i think you overestimate how many people would be intrigued based on a rating.

not to mention, this would get the game straight banned in many places anyways.

Cool I agree. It will probably be banned in most Countries. All I'm saying is that being as impressive as this game, if they goes for an AO rating, people would still try to have it for sale as hard as possible. This game have a possibility to change the gaming industry and it's rating system altogether!

yeah i dont think you understand how retailers work. this would be the dumbest pr move in history, tbh.

ever wonder why you cant buy moves with explicit sex in them at your average retailer? not talking porn, im talking legit movies that happen to feature sex, like Gaspar Noe's work or Lars Von Trier's work.

No one would be lining up for this.

This game have a possibility to change the gaming industry and it's rating system altogether!
No it doesn't. the point of the rating system is that its independant of the commercial intrests.

Im not really getting technical. Its the law that is technical. Its not so much that a flaccid penis means it is not porn but an erect penis in some jurisdictions as i understand it means it is porn regardless of the context. Certain jurisdictions will not permit you to depict someone in a state of arousal. Anyway this has gone further than i ever wanted it to go. It is what it is.

As to the AO rating, at least in Australia, thats not an option. The review board will simply refuse to classify it and it will not be able to be sold

Because the laws involved are that technical, and they can outright ban the game from being allowed in their nation if it goes too far.

I would imagine it would be handled similarly to The Witcher 3. More detailed cutscenes for major romance options (without being gratuitous or pornographic) and shorter ones or fades-to-black for the casual hook ups with NPCs you never see again.

On a side note, has anyone here play the 2020 pen and paper? How did they implement sex in Cyberpunk lore? I think there are prostitute and such, can you choose to play as a prostitute in the pen and paper? Are there Adult entertainment industry in the Cyberpunk world?

As a PnP player of CP2020 I can tell you there was sex aplenty. You could play a prostitue or pimp or gigalo or what ever you chose as long as it fit the group and the game. To be honest, though, there was very little time to roleplay sex. The few times it happened in my group it was reduced to rollplay. Roll a 5, sex happens, sort of thing.

Something like in Mass Effect but I wouldn't mind seeing something that's more explicit. To be precise, I want steamy hot scenes, it doesn't mean there has to be the main act though.

I hope it's not just put in just to have them. The more nuanced and less samey they are the better, especially when it comes to relationships. I hope the developers know what their doing, because trying to tackle or simulate characters that you can care about enough to mess around with or build something with inside game as a feature. Don't really have a huge success rate outside of a few titles and even with those, it's still pretty unbalanced/unbelievable.

Not asking for the world or something evolutionary but something that's more than above average. That also adds to the experience . Otherwise don't waste money and time.

In recent years television has taken a larger step in making sex scenes more involved. Shows like Game of Thrones did it to an excess, but shows like shameless attempted to portray sex as it is in young adult relationships. As it stands sex a huge part of the cyberpunk universe and should be not only handled and implemented but also done maturely. The game as it stands already has drugs and nudity. In my book, a fully involved but at the same time naturally occurring sex scene would be best. No need for quick time events, and not as fake and over the top as porn. Make it natural, keep it mature, and also make it meaningful when it needs to be.

those aren't exactly normal TV programs though. they're on premium cable channels and aren't beholden to ratings restrictions like a game like Cyberpunk would be.

I agree that there are restrictions potentially facing the CP2077 game. The thing is, shows like Orange is the new black and GOT pushed the boundaries of whats acceptable on television, and in the end paved the way for newer television shows to explore mature themes in all facets. On the same note, CDPR did the same thing with the TW3 and it was like that in TW2. Remember when people first witnessed the Triss and Geralt seen from TW2?

CDPR continues to redefine what makes a good game, and also rebuilt the mature fantasy universe. If they want this game to be as player immersive as they claim, TW3 style cut scenes won't cut it.

they really didn't though, those are on premium cable channels, and again, not restricted like most channels are. it makes more sense to compare what you see in an r rated movie vs an unrated movie, as cinema has a more standard and analogous rating system.

we can already do GOT level sex and nudity anyways in games. People are asking for straight up porn though.

One thing I find strange.

If they are going for a mature audience I don't see why instances of gratuitous nudity and sex should not be included. People love saying "The nudity and sex always needs to be tasteful and have narrative purpose!" but for the world to feel real, and if it is intended for adults - why? Yes there need to be tasteful instances of it, and not just "pop out a boob on every corner" but I never understood why some level of just pure gratuitous sex or nudity is considered bad.

Both men and women have the same lusts and needs, and in real life people hook up for the pleasure of sex and watch porn all the time. I don't see why some level of this should be excluded, ESPECIALLY in the world of CP.

The dosage lies in the poison. As with Game of Thrones, there is fair amount of it. And it feels realistic because of it. But they never overdid it. I guess for some reason, most cultures are still so hypersensitive to sex and nudity. Nudity in game of thrones was never a big deal for me, because... I'm an adult? The "adults" reacting to nudity as something negative are the immature ones imo.

People often seem to view sex and nudity as something vile and negative instead of positive and natural. If CDPR implements it in the world in a natural way, it would be a huge positive. But in this day and age it's like...

"Reviewer: OMFG I JUST SAW A NAKED BOOB AND IT DIDN'T HAVE A NARRATIVE PURPOSE! CDPR IS USING SEX TO SELL THEIR VILE GAME! GRATUITOUS NUDITY SOMEONE CALL THE POPE!"

I mean come on. For example, a hooker on the corner with 2 big breasts hanging out is not a big deal and makes sense in context. Yet people make it a big deal and take it out of context with idiotic arguments like "that hooker could have been covered in blankets" or something.

I think its more the line of anything that doesn't serve world building or the story is just fluff. its not just about sex. It applies to everything. It's immersion breaking if the game just starts throwing opportunities for debauchery at you just to be edgy when it serves no purpose to the roleplaying. and if it serves a purpose to the role playing, then no amount of sex is really gratuitous. Its like the difference between sexually explicit literature like Crash and trashy romance novels that exist just as porn in practice.

"Mature" isn't the same as "must include explicit content". There Will Be Blood is a movie for mature audiences, but there's almost no violence and no sex at all in the movie. Its a mindest, not a rider for including edgy things.

. People love saying "The nudity and sex always needs to be tasteful and have narrative purpose!" but for the world to feel real, and if it is intended for adults - why?

if it actually serves the world building, then it is tasteful and has a narrative purpose. but making it natural is the issue. you cant just have the protagonist bang every person he or she meets. the situations have to feel natural.

but I never understood why some level of just pure gratuitous sex or nudity is considered bad.

.
the word "gratuitous" literally explains this in its definition.

Both men and women have the same lusts and needs, and in real life people hook up for the pleasure of sex and watch porn all the time.
Sure, and if it serves character and world building I don't think anyone cares, but its gonna be a bit forced if all of the sudden I'm playing a minigame to jerk off while watching porn.

The dosage lies in the poison. As with Game of Thrones, there is fair amount of it. And it feels realistic because of it. But they never overdid it. .
I don't think it feels realistic because of it. I think it works because the rest of the world was built in such a way to justify it. it wasn't what made the world feel real, it felt real because of the world.

"Reviewer: OMFG I JUST SAW A NAKED BOOB AND IT DIDN'T HAVE A NARRATIVE PURPOSE! CDPR IS USING SEX TO SELL THEIR VILE GAME! GRATUITOUS NUDITY SOMEONE CALL THE POPE!"
literally never seen this unless someone's complaining about it being used as pure fan service. no one really
complains about it unless they feel like its used exploitively. for example, no one complained about the sex in The Witcher 3 (minus Polygon and Anita Sarkessian, but they're clowns anyways.). The DID complain about it in The Witcher 1. why? The sex was more explicit in The Witcher 3. but in that game, the women were treated like fully formed characters, while in the Witcher 1, Women were seen as literally collectables, and the sex wasn't treated as something the characters wanted, but as merely a task for Geralt to complete.

THAT is the only time I see people complain about sex. When its not there for a reason, and just there as a thinly veiled excuse to show a sex scene.

I mean come on. For example, a hooker on the corner with 2 big breasts hanging out is not a big deal. Yet people make it a big deal.

Yeah no one's really cared about that since like, GTA III.

Pornography is defined as something of which the main or exclusive purpose is to create sexual arousal in the viewer. It's got nothing to do with the explicitness of the acts depicted. For instance films (or paintings, or books, or any art form really) can depict nudity or sexual acts, sometimes even full blown graphical sexual intercourse without it being pornographic, because they serve a purpose within the work. Inversely, something as PG as an image of a bare foot can be pornography if it was created only to arouse corresponding fetishists.
