Problem after upgrade to enhanced edition

Hi,

I upgraded the Witcher 2 from version 2.0 to the enhanced edition.

Whereas the game would launch without any problems before, now the launcher either resets or hangs. Any suggestions as to what might have gone wrong? I do not get any error messages.

Thank you in advance.

Did you get errors during installation?
Even if not, I think you can just launch the game directly from the .exe (which can be found in ...The Witcher 2/bin folder), if it works, it is a temporal solution at least. ;)

No error messages whatsoever, in fact everything went quite smoothly. Directx is up to date, all other drivers as well.

It's odd, v2.0 would launch without the slightest issue, this is only happening after the upgrade.

I just tried launching it the way you suggested, no luck.

Hmm...I got at least a "corrupted source file" message, but had similar symptoms, the thing I did was that I reinstalled the game (the GOG backup copy, which is patched to EE http://www.gog.com/en/witcher2/backup/), and had no problems after that, even though this is a big download, but I know no other method to fix this (there might be, so wait a bit for someone else's answer if you want), but to reinstall.

I have to admit, the idea of downloading the entire game is not appealing (the upgrade to EE was somewhere between 10 and 11 gb) but if there's no other solution...

So, how do I prove that I am legitimate owner of the Witcher 2 over at GoG, in order to download the game from their site?

Do you have the CD-Key? If not, then: http://www.thewitcher.com/backup/
Also, do you have the retail version?

I have the retail v2.0 version. I'm not sure where to look for the CD-key, going through the manual now.
It should be printed on the back of the manual, but if it isn't, use that site I just linked you, it is for the people that somewhy don't have access to their CD-key, but want to claim their backup copy.
You'll also need a (completely free) GoG account.

No, there's nothing either on the manual or the game guide. And to think I bought the game retail to avoid (most) of the hassle of downloading :)

I'll have to use the link, I guess.

Thank you very much for all your help, really appreciate it.

No problem, I help whenever I can, just as my fellow forumites do. ;)

If you were at 2.0 and not 2.1 then your issue and solution may lie at this link

If no solution is found there then you might consider this one

Thank you for the reply. I applied patch 3.1 and the game seems to be working without any issues again (hadn't had the chance to spend too much time with it, sadly, but so far, so good).
