"V will have only one apartmant in the game." - Kasia Redesuik (gamestar.de interview)

The whole point would be that you'd progress and evolve as a character throughout the story and after many, many gameplay hours and strategically made decisions you might end up with enough money to buy a fancy place.

I don't know how the story will go, but I'm certain this is not about being rich or corpo legend in cyberpunk world. It's the story about sewer rat fight for his survival. and.. the rat owns his own room at 110th floor of huge apartment located super luxury district? I don't know..

For me it would be a bit disappointing. In my opinion, the chance of owning several and different priced houses, apartments (actually stuff in general) through game progression, would give you that satisfying feeling that you are really achieving things, getting V's life better. Beside augmentations, i guess house should still be on top in priority list, where people invest their earnings, even in cyberpunk world. But then again, resources are not unlimited so it is what it is and im sure cd projekt red will find the way to make the best cyberpunk game possible.

Not a problem if you ask me. Playing dollhouse over several lots isn't really all that necessary.

Its not dollhouses, like Mah-Tei says, its after all that you go through youre still a lowly character in the world of Night city.

We would like to progress. They can change their minds and add extra apartments til release but the game is not what we thought it would be. Limited.
Start poor, end poor. This is huge gameplay ramifications.

Yep, at the end that would be great. I would love to see V run a corp, be a gang boss etc.

For sure we know that one of the narrative themes in the game, as well as V's main initial aspiration (as it should be for any ambitious gun-for-hire) is to "make it to the major league." It's not about becoming a corpo god, it is about the hero's journey. I am not saying Cyberpunk 2077 will, or even should be a classic, traditional rags-to-riches story, but most great stories do not start AND end with the hero being a sewer rat.

Not a big issue for me. Though it would have been nice to have some real estate to choose from, if only for the progression of it (slums - run down area - city high life).

That said, i hope we'll have options to improve our home... and decorate it, make it our own. Mmm, could work.

The world would always disrupt that V goes to 'major-league'. because It's cyberpunk. It's not about the hopeful, happy thing like 'if you work hard, dreams will come true'

the fact that you think It's good is irrelevant. because the game has not that kind of story.

First of all, we do not know for sure what kind of story it will be.

And second, why would it even be an option to choose a corpo background (vs. street kid and nomad) if that's not a relevant part of who your character might be? These three have been confirmed.

I honestly don't think you're making a good case for not even allowing V to become at least somewhat wealthy. Rags-to-riches may not be exactly what this story is but sewer rat to sewer rat hardly even presents you with a framework for a good story. Especially in the case of an RPG videogame.

It is becoming inceasingly clear that they focused on 2 games. The story driven RPG, and the "free" open-world.
And it seems to me that they are not planning on doing anything else with that seconde one. I fear it is going to be the "all look, no touch" kind of world type.

The apparments thing was the only kind of confirmation we had that could contradtict that, but now it is kinda gone.

What can I do in Night City then ?

If the answer is just "Well you can kinda just look at stuff and take side quests", it is incredibly disappointing.
Of course I'm not asking for a life-simulation, but some of it can add so much layers to your world. Mini-games are a good way to do that for example

And there's another concern. When asked, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz only listed hacking, racing, martial arts and shooting range as mini-games. With the sprawling, beautiful world of Night City I sure hope there will at least be a few casinos.

If the reason for this is quest related, then it can't be helped. Would've been nice for at least some decorative options like Corvo Bianco though.

Its kinda illogical:

- high-society NPCs will not visit the players (below average ?) apartment
and are thus cut off from the list of potential deeper business partners / romance options
> an appartment in a high-society area would allow this

- uncertain NPCs will not visit the players only apartment
A) if it is located in insecure parts of town they are afraid of
and are thus cut off from the list of potential deeper business partners / romance options
> an appartment in a high-society area would allow this
B) or if the player is a criminal and an attack on them is likely
and are thus cut off from the list of potential deeper business partners / romance options
> any 'secondary' apartment would allow this, apartment area depending on situation

- criminal NPCs will not be able to visit the players only apartment
if it is located in lawful and for criminals unaccessible parts of town
and are thus cut off from the list of potential deeper business partners / romance options
> an appartment in the low class area would allow this

My conclusion is that the game needs at least 3 apartments to allow all NPCs to visit the player to form deeper business relations or romance. One lowclass / midclass / highclass apartment and you likely start with the lowclass. If not, the game could end up magically either letting criminals in lawful areas or high-society people visit your 'puny' apartment and not show dislike, both unimmersive. And if they show dislike, you cant do a thing, even if you have the money to do so.

If the game does not magically allow this, then from the start you are locked out from both the lowest and highest class of NPCs and only get average people to visit your appartment if your apartment is midclass or worse, if your apartment is lowclass, forcibly only get lowclass and criminal NPCs visit you E.g. that high-society girl will not go in the slums to visit your 'apartment'.

Pointless? You are a mercenary on the run that should have multiple hideouts. In a cyberpunk world where technology is top notch, there is no chance you can't be traced easily to your apartment. We will probably have 50+ levels of progression and during that time will meet multiple bosses and gangs. You're telling me that one apartment from gameplay standpoint is a good idea? I should be dead immediately when I step in the room by some placed mine, bomb or even gang members waiting for me in the bathroom when I killed big fish of the mafia or something.

If they found one apartment, then they know about your other places. Add on to that the price of rent for each place, and your looking at a money sink. It just wouldnt be worth it.

Are we able to customize it? That is the real question. Never really cared about having multiple apartments, the customization is the important bit.

Ok, so we have a Polish dev being either interviewed in her second language (German) or the interview being translated into German, and then translated again into English by you guys. I'm not saying what you all think it says is wrong, but is it possible something got lost in translation along the way, and what she really meant to say is that "V will only own one apartment at a time"?

Either way, I really don't care... I don't plan on playing Sims.

To reply to the highlighted part: Unlikely, very much so. The German text I translated myself and it doesn't leave that much room for speculation, it is definite. Now the only thing we can question is whether it's been lost in translation before, via Gamestar. While I cannot access the original interview (video or script) as it's behind a paywall, the translated text we got from Gamestar seems obvious enough to actually imply "one apartment only", due to the part "...and will stay there", kinda ruling out additional apartments.

More, an official reply will have to clarify. Either

a) lost in translation or
b) due to feedback always being generated about this, perhaps they change their mind. Could be done in 10 months if we assume the additional apartments wouldn't need heavy work in terms of embedding them into the plot and quests or
c) they confirm and stay on that new course

As a native german speaking person i can clarify that the text was translated correctly.

The only thing which is very strange, is that there are other interviews e.g. an interview with the lead anmiator which says other apartments can be bought. So maybe Kasia just didn't knew, we would need some OFFICAL clarification from CDPR now!
