Will there be Escort Missions in CP2077?

+
I like escorts. I like missions. I think i'm going to run into enemy fire yelling "truck truck truck truck truck" take off my clothes and throw my gun at them.. for science! --NPC being escorted.

Ya know what, how cool would it be, if you could chose some of the augmentations, or a possible tech tree of the person you're escorting. Not dependent on your abilities either, so you can run deep stealth, solo, blade-runner if you like. and not surprisingly, they can play as that style of character. So, a strong solo may start some shit, but they also may be convinced to take a different path.

If so please say the target you are escorting is able to defend themselves at least a little bit.. Most escort missions are ruined by AI with zero self preservation instincts in most games and is just a miserable experience to deal with.

I second that.
That'd be awesome if you could be able to give orders to your V.I.P.
I would mention some games as good examples but I don't remember one that gave me true satisfaction

I’m inclined to believe that if there are ”escort missions”, the escortees will be handled like companions: they’re immortal and useless in combat beyond ”looking the part”, only there to unlock the timely story hooks.

Operation immortal NPC shield
:-D

Escort missions in general are bad (at least used to be the worst missions in MMOs like WoW). There are number of issues with them.

One is that the NPC will likely have death wish and the AI will likely frustrate you. Another is that the mission forces you to play in a certain way, as opposed to the open-ended, emergent gameplay of other types of missions. Third is that they tend to be time-intensive, especially if you fail it.

Escort missions MAY make sense from flavor point of view (working as a bodyguard makes sense for a solo), but making these escort missions enjoyable is likely harder than with other types of missions.

Agree for the most part, but I feel like the current stage of gamedev industry makes for promising possibilities for escort missions. Not likely to be great and mind-blowing, considering all the past pain and anger escort caused, but far better - people learn from the past, after all.

That bodyguard example you gave could be played out as a mission that's mostly related to vehicles. The VIP is a passanger and you get to do the driving, and possibly, shooting (they way we saw it in the 48-minute gameplay video). Or the other way around - the player is the passanger shooting while the VIP is the driver (could be a scripted sequence with little to no room for AI to do anything stupid or frustrating).

Either way, escort missions can be fun and enjoyable today, I think. They're probably way more complicated and difficult to do right than I imagine, so the devs might have been focused on other missions and aspects of the rather than on something that notorious in the industry.

I really like your idea and i think the Devs could pull this off with out the quest being a pain in the arse .

escort missions can be good or terrible depending on how intelegent the Ai of the one your guarding is. I have had more experience with atleast half decent ones but few with some that made me avoid escort missions for that game like plague form then on. I forget exactly which game it was but I was running an escort mission along a mountain pass with a 200+ foot cliff along one side of the path at that particular spot when got ambushed. THe one I was to protect could of gone 2 ft back down path and had a very good cover behind a large tree but what did she do but go full sprint and do a Willey Coyote off the cliff and fall to her death failing the mission before more than 2 blows had been exhanged

I highly expect there to be quite alot of Escort missions
Ugh. As long as the AI is Decent enough i will give it a chance..

Also wanna give a dishonorable mention to Dark Messiah: Might and And Magic's Horrendous AI for Leanna the most irritating character you are forced to defend most of the game.

I would like to revise my thoughts on what i used to call terrible NPCs. After experiencing first hand how incredibly stupid people are during covid, how lacking their sense of "reality" is when compared to actual reality. How much people lie to themselves and how they have learned to interact with the world via tictok, FB, Instagram, "reality" TV, inaccurate TV shows and movies azounds, and no one ever looks into what they really should do. Every NPC in every game i've ever played, I pretty much now consider a real possibility. :(
