Seeing the Dragon Age 4 trailer reminds me of why I am excited for CP2077

+
I liked Bioware games of the past, but seeing the DA4 trailer reminds me of why Cyberpunk 2077 is so special:

1) Choices are not black and white. Bioware games has not evolved beyond the black and white good/bad choice concept. In Cyberpunk 2077 I am sure we will be in situations where we must choose between 2 or 3 bad choices with all bad outcomes. This often makes the world feel less gamey and more realistic as well as more dire.

2) The open world is more lively and dynamic. Bioware has yet to make a game with dynamic weather and day and night cycle. Obviously Cyberpunk 2077 will have them with great quality.

3) Realistic romances in that you just do not choose the "romance options" like in Bioware games, romances in CP2077 is said to be more dynamic and something you have to work towards.

4) Representations of a dark society. Bioware games recently like DAI often TELL you that this world is dark and grim but what you actually experience is bright and sterile. Cyberpunk 2077 is being marketed as the dark future and while the game will have many light moments, CDPR will not shy away from dark and controversial themes and displaying them in game and making the player experiencing them first hand.

5) Treating me like an adult. Recently with DAI and even MEA Bioware has made creative decisions because they didnt want to offend people. Bioware would have never had images such as the "Mix it up" or "3 mouths one desire" ads. I am an adult, put the content in the game and let me comprehend it the way I want. Do not treat me like a 12 year old who needs to be shielded from certain images. If Bioware made Night City, it would be told to us that this is a dark and dangerous city but what they give us would be safe and sterile free from anything that can offend any demographic groups. When it comes to violence DAI and MEA held back and was more inline with a T rated game rather than M rated.

I can go on but these are just some of many reasons why TW3 was such a breath of fresh air and why CP2077 appeals to me so much. Seeing Bioware back in the forefront with DA4 trailer just reminds me of all this.

Bioware has so much money and yet their games recently are such utter and complete trash. Look at how amazing their offices look! So much money!

Their games from 20 years ago are far superior to the broken garbage they make today.

Is it any wonder that this "first-look" trailer shows so little of the game and more about how "awesome" Bioware is? It looks like a campaign pitch!

Bioware games have turned into dating sims, the romances are all their fans ever talk about now. It had gotten so bad that one of their developers, Aaron Flynn, had likened the sex scenes to "softcore space porn." After ME2 I don't know what happened to them. All I know is storytelling and interesting characters, were put on the back burner, and all that was left was how many aliens the protagonist could screw.

Apparently they were deep into development when upper management had them start over in order to include more "live service" elements.

There is a KOTAKU article about this.
There were also issues with developers being redirected to Andromeda and Anthem, and DA4 getting cut down in scope.

Now they are putting all their chips back onto Dragon Age.
I hope it does well, but bioware didn't show much love for it untill Andromeda and Anthem flopped.

I'm hopeful of Dragon Age 4 but have ZERO intent of buying till I see real gameplay post release.

Andromeda ...
Andromeda gets a bad wrap. It was fun and had some cool concepts. Early bugs, subpar andromedan stories (the Khet and Angorans were not very interesting) and too much focus on open world content over quests made it a mediocre experience. Sigh.

If DA4 can go back to focusing on quests and stories, the series would be greatly served.

I am with you on Andromeda (y) I picked it up in a discount bin and was surprised ( after hearing how bad it was ) by a pretty good ( not great ) game . I have know doubt i got my $ 20 bucks worth out of it .

I still have DAO in my all time top 5 games of all time but as each DA game came it got a little worse each time . I tried going back to DAI but that game is sooooo grindy it`s not funny . I just couldn`t do it :(

Now i am off to watch to trailer on YT .

After ME2 I don't know what happened to them.
Mass Effect 2 being a huge success happened. :p I liked the game and I liked the characters (even Jacob), but shifting focus on romances was already apparent back in 2010. Talk about romances was present in the marketing like never before. Beside flirting, there's no other way of interacting with most of your squadmates after their LM. Your yeoman offers to takes care of the fish once you flirt with her enough times. On BSN, activity in character/romance section of the forum exploded after ME2. To me, it seems like BioWare games becoming more and more like dating sims was a matter of supply and demand.

As for DA4, I still hope for the best, but I'm very skeptical about the team behind it. Gaider and Laidlaw are no longer there, Patrick Weekes is the only name with enough credentials, and apparently, he's started to physically resemble a person who spends way too much time on twitter.

BIOWARE AS OF TODAY:
- Prone to fakery & misleading ads
- A shadow of its former selves
- Still need to earn "Anthem" fans's goodwill & still failing at it.
- It's EA game. VERY Prone to MTX & BS monetizations.
- Just last year, even the lead producer for DA4 has left Bioware.
- Still have no PROPER TRAILER
- Very mediocre recent trailer. It talks nothing of actual substances. Just a tiny confirmation from the very obvious continous plot of Solas/Dread Wolf from DAI.
- Likely even more "Action RPG" instead of tactical party based RPG. Personally not what I am looking for in Dragon age game.
- Lead Writer is not the one who mostly wrote DA games lore & stories. David Gaider has left the company too.

+ We now have Baldur's Gate 3!!! Larian Studios FTW LOL

Bioware hasn’t done anything worth breathing toward since DA:O in 2009.

It’s hard to imagine this would be anything different.

I still hold a little bit hope for the Dragon Age series but I know what I’m getting into with the modern incarnation of this company. Even though I believe in stuff like redemption, I’m aware that Bioware’s glory days basically ended right after Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2.

Even so, Inquisition still holds a place in my personal top 10 of games, way higher than Origins (don’t judge me, we all have our quirks )... however, I’m also kinda wanting other game to take its place, mostly because I’m sorta grown out of their writing style. I’ll always have a place in my heart for some of Dragon Age’s characters but, at the same time, many of them remind me in a bad way of, for lack of a better comparison, Grey’s Anatomy (apologies to fans of the show reading this). Also, I still like Origins but its I’m-always-bloodsoaked-and-I-just-got-laid-so-I’m-adult-and-badass type of edginess still makes me cringe from time to time

Despite all that, I still want to visit Thedas again. I’m a sucker for games with this much worldbuilding, especially if they flesh it out the way Origins and Inquisition did and if they feature art direction as wonderful as Inquisition’s (I f**king love Orlais). Plus, there are still places I’m eager to see and experience in this world—like Tevinter, Rivain, Anderfels, and Seheron—, so that’s pretty much why I’m still holding on to hope... a man can dream

P.S.: I ignored DA2 because I never played it and it never caught my interest.

I stopped caring about DA (and, to a large extent, BioWare) after DA2, and, at this point, I want nothing to do with anything EA has its hands on. I really hope CDPR can avoid the big publisher trap that so many others, like BioWare, could not.

Dragon Age world building and lore is probably my favorite (even though the Witcher is my favourite game, and LOTR my favorite movie).

Kingdoms, race relations, geography, history, religion, the blight, magic, the veil, the fade...
Extremely layered, rich, nuanced and believable.
Dragon Age writers did a masterful job creating that world.

YES, totally! :smart::coolstory::beer::howdy:;)(y):cool::love::LOL:
The developer is only as good as its management.
Well all these things are extremely important.

I'm still somewhat hopeful for this game. DAI was their last above average game ... some maybe they'll get back to form in Tevinter.
May I ask, What is... Tevinter...? Sounds like a tavern, like in the winter. Beer=extra cold and fresh! :)

I really enjoyed some of their more experimental and fun concepts

OMG they are even worse than I thought. This is the end of Bioware, what a shame.

I felt like bioware, in my opinion, ended after mass effect 1, and somewhere in the middle of making sw:knights of the old republic 2.
It's just like DICE with the battlefield games. I feel that when EA gets a hold of a developer, they change the direction from passion to profit.
