World is not interactive enough, thoughts?

This game could be one of the best this gen but there's so much stuff missing, stuff that seems obvious, like how come I can't sit in a bench in the park outside of quests? How come I can't order food and have an animation? They already made all of this stuff for the quests but it's completely missing from the open world.

Hope they release an enhanced edition in a year, the foundation is really good, but like I said, there's a lot missing, I guess they ran out of time.
Absolutely. foundation is there. unfortunately it seems a lot was removed to ensure the current release happened on time. truly saddening.

I agree about unusable shops, bars, and food stands. It is silly that you cannot interact with them / buy stuff.

However, minigames are overrated. The game itself is entertainment. I want to enjoy the game not get distracted by trivial minigames. For instance, if I want to play poker, I play poker. No need to run CP2077 for that. Also, I don't want to waste my time on entering every building and every room if there is nothing in there, except random junk loot. IMHO all that stuff breaks immersion.

I dont know I always find them refreshing in the games, for example I ve played so much poker in RDR2 :D, or that bowling in GTA IV was amazing, or betting on horse racing and casino in GTA SA, and we all remember how great Gwent was.

It just adds life, and options besides missions.

Oh yes mini games will be so good (igo, darts, batting center...)

And please when we eat or drink (from inventory), it will be better if we can see our characters really drink and eat.

There's a main story mission where you get to sit at one of the food stalls and actually eat a plate of food.

You can bet I dragged out that conversation as long as possible, and ate every single bite. Because that's the only "meal" I've gotten to eat in the entire game. Everything else is just completely soulless clicking on an inventory item, with minimal feedback.

That's just one small example of the way in which the open world in this game is, sadly, an afterthought. It makes for amazing set dressing to support the setpieces - the main story, side quest, and gig missions - but if you choose to focus on the open world itself, it quickly becomes evident how shallow and superficial it is.

This is a shame, because there was obviously a great deal of care and attention paid to the creation of Night City itself - its architecture, aesthetics, and so forth. I love this place, its realization is an incredible success, even a triumph. But its value is cheapened by these obvious placeholder mechanics - poor NPC AI for pedestrians, gangs, and cops, non-existent vehicle AI, lack of interactivity in the world (food stalls, minigames, NPC dialogue, etc), and so forth.

The "bones" here are very good, and I guess we can hope they'll eventually make better use of this incredible setting they've delivered. Because right now, that beautiful map is a flawed promise of what could have been.

Fortunately, the story is great, I'm not disappointed by that. But the open world has fallen a bit flat, and that's a shame.

I think it's the quantity. Nobody needs a game that has ALL OF THESE THINGS. What we needed was 2 or 3 small ones that gave you the illusion of an interactive world that you can live in. You play chess in the park with some old dudes, you go to the arcade and there is one game you can play, you throw darts with your buddies. I mean hell, a lot of games have this shit, and you can tie that in in spending time with your romance partner or with your friends (Jackie and others) to give you the chance to roleplay the character V and their life. And if you build in little dialogues into those events where you have choices (without any consequences even) that makes you define who you want YOUR V to be, that is even better.

Really, this game was all about you being V. The Witcher had Geralt, but Geralt was a pre-defined character. In the beginning, Cyberpunk 2077 was supposed to be an RPG first and foremost, and this time with a character that YOU YOURSELF can define. That you can roleplay as, interact with the world as. But in the end it feels like neither the story and it's dialogue choices, not the interaction in the world, nor the customization (or lack thereof) can offer you that feeling that YOU ARE V, and that V is defined by who you - the player - want V to be. It feels like Im playing yet another pre-defined character, change a couple of words in their dialogue, maybe am more inquisitive and ask every question before moving on with the main dialogue. But ultimately V just feels like V, one single character, not like MY V. And this world feels not like a playground or interactable world, but more like a set-piece for a story. And to be honest, in that case you could have just given me a more linear game with mission areas and it would have been the same, maybe even better because then I wouldn't have expected an Open World like a GTA or RDR or Yakuza.

Firstly I must say that the game is great and I enjoy playing it very much, but more and more I am playing I cant shake that one big dissapointment or issue I have with the game and thats that the world just not seem interactive enough and its really shame cause it has so much potential and unused opportunities in that area. I dont know I just thought it would be more interactive like GTA you know more specifically like GTA SA.

- All those food stands 24/7 or other shops around the game you cant interact with ... why you cant buy a hotdog or cofee or beer whatever then drink or eat it with some nice animation .. those are tiny things but it really adds immersion and life into the game
- Restaurants and bars ... sadly they are completely obsolete and not worth going in there, its just an inventory barter same as with the food machines and since all food gives same boost you just dont have to go there ever ... why you cant just sit around the bar or restaurant drink or eat something with some animations and chill you know maybe watch some strippers and give them some eddies you know
- Too few channels in TV and you cant interact with anything while browsing the web thats a shame ...
- No minigames (at least so far) there is also a lot of unused potential, i saw playing/gaming machines make them usable for in game gaming, pub games like darts or pool, hazard machines (also in game) maybe in game casino ?, there are shooting ranges at gun shops so why not make a minigame here to shoot for high score etc.
- Customizable cars (hope it will be added in some future DLC)
- What are those BDs for if you cant watch them? I still cant figure out why you can buy them them then? and whats the function of pawn shops cause you cant use almost anything he is selling and you can sell him everything you can sell to other vendors
- Too few prostitute/toys types ... I came only across two so far (one male, one female) and playing as male V I dont find the female version very atractive

Those are just few I can think of from the top of my head, feel free to add more if you think of any. I dont know after 8 years of development I just expected the world to be way more interactive and that there will be more things to do when you are not on a mission to just hang out you know.

But otherwise the game is great :)

How it can be improved? (probably wont, but hey a man can dream) Your thoughts?
Thank you for bringing this up because its annoying like the foundation and some of the complex systems are there but they aren't fleshed out or they don't work like they're suppose to.

It feels like Im playing yet another pre-defined character...

That's because you sadly are. You don't get to be whatever character you want, you're THEIR V, given a physical shell of your choosing. You're on a scripted rail and your destination has long been chosen, regardless of which limited dialogue choices you pick.

Some say it's the journey and not the destination. What journey? The reason I chose Nomad was to role play being someone new to Night City (both as the character and myself), instead I find myself forced into Night City within 15 minutes, and even worse, blasted 6 months into the future after having watched clips of what was presumably cut from the game. Why not let us live out THOSE moments? And on the point of role play, yes they pegged it as an RPG before scrubbing it from their social media and changing it to Action-Adventure.

People have every right to have a sour taste in their mouth and vocalize it.

Glad im not the only one that was royally peeved about going Nomad to explort Night City for the first time only to have my guy go all Interstellar time dilatation on me and experience his 6 months in my 5 minutes.

Look @ whoever was posting this change.org petition.
You're not really making it easy for me to sign your petition if half your text is about "JOYTOYS".
No offense, we all know its a mature game, its cool that this stuff is included in a game like this, and its defintiely something nice to have, but, stop with your obsession about it please. How about you tone down the joytoys-talk and focus on the overall important elements that are missing. Im not saying scratch the point entirely, but you mentioned it 4 times in your petition, like holy hell.

I have to agree but there has to be a stopping point somewhere. The game is big at 60 and some GB but could easily have been 100 GB with the additions your describe. The game world is there as "fluff" mostly. The main attraction is "V", the story and voice acting. Then rest is just scenery and sadly so. I am not a big fan of mini games as a pass time while I am playing a game as a pass time, if you get my drift. I see no lure to stop for a beer at a bar then play darts. To make it interesting maybe script in NPCs that interact with V and it leads to another side mission or plot line, yes. But to simple play darts, no!

Let's lay down a list of what was promised to us but it was found missing from the game.

Please let this gain some traction - we must be organized if we want to provoke an answer from the dev team.

- AMAZING AI that directs enemies during combat/patrol but also citizens and npcs' daily life ( https://www.reddit.com/r/cyberpunkgame/comments/kbk4ap )

- wanted system and corrupt police (https://gamerant.com/cyberpunk-2077-wanted-system-corrupt-police/)

-Immersive police involvment changing with the area where you commited the crime (https://www.usgamer.net/articles/cyberpunk-2077-producer-details-law-enforcement)

- in general, way more interesting combat and hacking (
). Some examples are the ability to use your wire to hack people (
), hacking reveales information about the network, more interesting viruses to upload, more loot from hacked devices.

- more interesting gameplay, for example: trauma team that plays a key role, freequent flying avs, ads that target the player point to the merchant that sells that product, merch could be pre-viewed before purchase (Source:
and
) NOTE: this section is by far the most oversimplied one. There are a number of minute key things I am not stating in this thread because I don't want to dilute it too much.

- Strong RPG elements (https://wccftech.com/cyberpunk-2077...aying-experience-than-the-witcher-3-says-dev/)

- NPC unique daily routine and AI (https://www.tweaktown.com/news/7304...cs-will-have-unique-daily-routines/index.html)

- Quest decisions will have relevance in the world (https://onlysp.escapistmagazine.com/cyberpunk-2077-changes/)

- Meaningful day and night cycle (right now it's just cosmetic and doesn't impact the gameplay): Exploring Cyberpunk's Night City with CD Projekt Red - Cyberpunk 2077 - Gamereactor

- Incredible character customization during creation / in-game (https://gamecrate.com/cyberpunk-2077-boxing-power-weapons-militech-spider-robot-and-more/23426 and https://www.gamesradar.com/uk/cyberpunk-2077-character-creation/)

- Use of drones for more than just some missions in the game (https://gamecrate.com/cyberpunk-2077-boxing-power-weapons-militech-spider-robot-and-more/23426)

- three different lifepaths and more that would actually have more impact than what we are getting now (Wall running and metro system are not the biggest thing to be cut out from the game. Its the plot : cyberpunkgame (reddit.com)

- to add on the previous point, lifepaths leading to non-linear quest design (https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2019/09/12/cyberpunk-2077-lifepath-system/)

- Nanowire and gorilla arms have a lot of different uses that are still in the description of the item (https://twitter.com/CyberpunkGame/status/1153684171606450178?s=09).

- Runs very well on last gen consoles (source NOT needed)

- The game will launch when it's ready (source NOT needed)

- Variety of braindances instead of it being just few cutscenes (can't find reference, please link)(so far videos like this https://youtu.be/ToWfeUEAeeQ?t=1167 point that braindance is a cool mechanic but they never said we'd be able to purchase and use the braindances on our devices and all. I don't feel this is a broken promise, rather an aspect of the game that we would love to have had implemented).

- Challenging weather system that would pose a threat to your survival (https://www.windowscentral.com/cybe...ain-and-other-deadly-environmental-challenges)

- At time of writing I haven't finished the game. However sources say there are very very few options for ONS and/or deep romances (this article summarizes what was expected https://www.ginx.tv/en/cyberpunk-2077/cyberpunk-2077-everything-about-relationships-romance-and-sex)

Features that were initially promised but later they announced to have been removed:

- Properties purchase and customization options (https://www.reddit.com/r/cyberpunkgame/comments/9bu0d5/purchasable_apartments_confirmed/)

- Transportation system (Promised but then removed https://www.gamepressure.com/newsroom/cyberpunk-2077-wont-show-subway-travel/z41f9d)

- Scaling walls (https://www.ign.com/articles/cyberpunk-2077-wall-running-mantis-blades-cut)

- Vehicle customization (https://www.altchar.com/game-news/cyberpunk-2077-wont-have-vehicle-customisation-aonab8e3yY6b)

Amazing post its sad how much content was eventually cut off :( the broken AI would sufice for another whole topic. They just went too far with what they wanted to create and sadly realized that its either unrealistic or they would actually have to develop the game for more then a decade to deliver those promises and eventualy had to release even an unfinished game. I mean at this point they didnt had much choice in my opinion. I am sure there was lot of pressure from the management, angry players because of delays etc.

But I feel the dissapointment, all that unhealthy hype they brought to the players was brought by themselves by those promises.

I am enjoying the game so far there is clearly a lot of love put into the story and missions/characters etc. but it feels like there was not enough time to give some love to the Night City or the world itself. And if the promise of the game wouldnt be a grounbreaking experience, the best open world to date I would give the game 10/10 (sure the bugs and technical state is annoying now but it will be fixed I am sure of that) But I must give only 7,5/10 because of the world which is really dissapointing and because they kinda lied with their promises, I do not say that I am overly angry for them they brought as again a great game (maybe not that top notch like TW3, but still great), but next time with next release I would recommend rather stay more closer to the ground and bring people awesome game instead of promising something you know you wont be able to deliver.

Lets just hope they put a lot of love into the game even post release (I am optimistic about it since they were making it for so long) and that we will see at least some of those features in the future updates or DLCs.

After I finish the game I will put it aside for a while and I am really looking forward when I come back to it lets say in a year to see what this game become by then.
Post automatically merged:

I am playing on PC so my game runs pretty smooth, but sadly the game runs like complete trash on old gen consoles, so I guess they will spend all resources and time now to make it playable on all platforms and all this missing content is not a priority now :(

But maybe we will see it in a future.

and i have to disagree with this one mate. if anything i was a concerned that it was only 60-70gb in early reports. i expected a game of this (alleged) magnituded to be around 150gb+. I covered this up instead with being impressed at how well CDPR optimised and compressed the game, only to realise my original fear was correct and that it simply is indeed MISSING A LOT

I have to agree, I'm not personally into mini games but the first thing that seemed disappointing to me was the lack of interactive NPCs and random encounters. The shops, bars and NPCs just seem to be window dressing. The Witcher 3 was supposedly a bigger world but still had a lot more meaningful random encounters. One that stands out for me was being able to randomly duel a woman warrior is Skellige, only for it to turn into a brief romance/fling if you win. It was a completely random quest in a far flung part of the map that could easily be missed, and I was impressed by how much was put into it. There were also many more opportunities to have actual random conversations with random NPCs in bars, some of which were quite amusing.

In Cyberpunk I recall my first visit to Afterlife and being disappointed that I couldn't speak to any random NPCs apart from the generic one liners. I even saw some NPCs who clearly had names when I scanned them but I can't interact with them until they become part of a quest I presume. For me being able to have actual conversations that may be inconsequential is a big part of the Witcher's 3 immersion, and I feel the world of Cyberpunk 2077 is maybe too big and unpolished to reflect that.

I do have hope though, because of these two encounters.. SPOILERS

I was feeling kind of bummed about the world not having much to explore, it felt like just going from quest to quest, until I ran into two police outside my apartment who were worried about their colleague, who was my neighbour. You end up speaking to the guy and learning about what made him want to quit the force, which was a rather dark/sad story that really reflected the dystopian feel of Night City. I hope there's more random encounters/quests like this.

There was another one where I came across an unknown location in a market, where Johnny Silverhand shows up and remarks about a guy busking. This turned into a quest where I tracked some Samurai memorabilia and had some more interactions with Johnny but his old days as a rocker. It was quite good, random and colourful. Hoping for more of these types of encounters. I have hope.

If you are referring to just random people walking around the street sure - but if you count up the NPCs that you interact with throughout quests - there are a lot. How much do you want to talk to randos anyway?

[...]

Even an hot dog merchant wanted me to "leave him alone"...
And even their AI is ridiculous: just try to do dodge in the middle of them and watch their reaction.

what do you want? every vendor to open up a trade menu to sell you hotdogs? After you do that 10 times you'll never do it again anyway, then there will be complaints "all the vendor sells is hot dogs."
Maybe he's in a bad mood, maybe he just works there and doesn't care to make sales.

I get what you are saying, but I just don't know what people expect or want. Every vendor to trade? No thanks.
