Romances are obviously designed by developers' prejudices and stereotypes!

I mean, I just can't believe that at the end of 2020 we need to go through this topic?
Why gay male character can't romance River Ward for example?
Is that because he is a "macho" character who doesn't "look gay"?
Why gay players can only romance character which is designed by 100% gay stereotypes?
Seriously? I personally know two very tough and macho real life gay police officers who are married to each other!
Do developers know anything about REAL LIFE?

Also, why straight male characters can only romance Panam? Because developers have a taste for "bad, hot girls" from the bad lands.... ?
What about different female personalities and characters?

Actually, this small detail like romance options is telling us very much about developers' mental structure, stereotypes and prejudices.

It kinda kills the fun.........

...Or characters can just have their own sexuality? Different characters have different styles, outfits, fit more or less into various stereotypes, and so on. Happens in real life too -- I know I've been disappointed when women I've wanted to date have (embarrassingly often for me) turned out to be lesbian. I think the game having characters with defined sexualities is far more meaningful than "the player can date/fuck anyone and anything".

I agree. It was a mistake not to make romances player sexual. having the romances be player sexual seems to be working great for Ubisoft Games and Baldurs gate 3, and nobody seems to have a problem with it in those games. But it is what it is, and it likely won't change.

My V is gay and I haven't romanced Kerry yet, but I can remember only one nice love story in video games and it is the romance with Dorian in DA3. The story was complex and realistic and had not much of stereotypes (IMHO).

I hope the line with Kerry is good.

I can relate - gay men kept trying to romance me irl so the only reasonable solution was for me to turn bi.

Jokes aside (I get that it's just a game and not real life etc. etc.), there are plenty of dating sims out there on the market, OP. Don't think Cyberpunk is one of them (although the weirdly involved romance quests did make me roll my eyes a couple of times).

Well, that's where we are with "representation" in media in 2020... we went from: "Can't show the gays in our game/movie/show" to "if we have them gays they gotta be stereotypical and funny" to "why are there even straight people in this story you hypocrites!?"

...might have overshot the target there a bit. ;)

I don't like that we are so limited...1 guy and one girl per gender?

Needs to be more like Dragon Age with choice...yes you can limit certain characters for certain sexualities but we need more options.

Oh and with at least 2 huge 'brothels' in Clouds and Lizzies we only get 2 joytoys to play with? What's up with that?

Yeah I would just like to slowly erode western values from the inside and watch their society crash hard but you're telling me there's no option to romance Saburo? Cmon CDPR, change your mental structure and stop being so prejudiced.

Would you have a crush if he or she had different genitals? Why TF would you be offended by a videogame. It is normal that Judy likes girls, its like you are gonna suddenly change her. I wouldnt be with my gf if she had a dick

Like honestly people like you bug me. You call CDPR sexist for making Judy being lesbian or Panam being straight. Trust me if some dude came to me and started flirting i would ran away, i am not interested in that. It not okay to expect that you can fuck anyone any thime you want

You have 4 romace options, and you have some side quests with sex at the end. I mean they didnt make porn game

Um. River ward is romanceable by male characters. I had to let the big guy down easy 'coz I'd already romanced Panam, and she had me at "shoulder-mounted rocket launcher."

Aside from that, if you're whining about "everyone shouldn't be bi" you're missing the point. Everyone should be ROMANCEABLE by the CURRENT PLAYER, without artificial restrictions. In other words, what they are is dynamically different depending on what YOUR character currently is; the point is to remove artificial restrictions to player choices.

I can see why the writers would simply want to decide what their characters are and develop each one a certain way.

I can also see how yes you'd have to spring a few bucks to record the extra lines necessary to make this happen.

But I see games that are supposedly more and more "advanced" offering less and less player choice and control. That's not advanced, that's stepping backwards. Remove restrictions, they have no place in an RPG. Simple as that.

And some of the other arguments are just.... odd.

You sure about that? Dude have you looked around Night City at all xD

ALL THAT SAID,

I just finished Judy's storyline as a dude and therefore a friend, and it was no less powerful and impactful a story for any lack of Pixelsex at the end of it. Maybe it's enough to have your characters develop a relationship with the NPCs thru the context of the story, without worrying about the romance aspect as much? I do believe in the game system the artificial restrictions should be removed, but these are still well-crafted and well-acted interactions and stories - don't let the lack of romance ruin your enjoyment of them.

Preferences and ego is exactly what makes us humans.
Dunno about you but there's a lot more to my humanity than that.....
