Why did they make the actual sexual content so scarce?

An AO rating automatically means the EBgames and Bestbuys of this world won't carry physical copies. The Microsoft and Playstation stores won't carry them either. Certain countries will ban it entirely and so on. An AO rating is commercial suicide.
Just wondering, couldn't they just fix it like they have already done, with a nudity filter? or simply release two versions, one with no filter and one with and those with filter could be sold in countries that don't like it and on playstation etc.? I mean as it is now the filter basically does this anyway as far as I understand it.

I wouldn't go as far as penises and vaginas flying all over the screen etc. That is not needed in order to create the illusion, that is not remotely what im talking about. Even though you could make some cool headshots with a katana :D

A filter you can turn on and off wouldn't fly with the rating boards. If it's accessible, the game will be rated on the full extent of the content.

Games are often released with modified assets for different countries.

Like the latest Wolfenstein game. You get to kill Hitler in it but any depiction of Hitler is banned in Germany, so in order to sell in Germany, Germany received a version in which Hitler was replaced by someone else. It can be a lot of work depending on the amount of content that needs to be changed.

In this case, China received a censored version (nudity-wise) but 1.0 was apparently not censored for us and is slowly being censored.

I say apparently because I haven't been paying much attention to the game's nudity. I honestly have very little knowledge if things are being censored or not.

Why even bother?

If a studio is going to release a controversial game that will get lots of flak from several parties. Homophobes and worse. Then they need to understand there will be no money on their end. They have to cope without them.

But 2020 have brought out the worst people from the SJW side ever so nothing is surprising at all.
Its quite funny to read that the 18 year age restriction have been increased in the middle east. And most of us know why. No need for beating around the bush for this one (no pun intended)

Maybe if there were less "obnoxious" content the game maybe would have been finished. Sure not as randy as promised. But at least playable in the department that really counts.

its a shame when a vision get teared down by stupid and ignorant people. Its their way or the high-way!

I'm genuinely curious, describe "obnoxious content". I'm not clear on what you're talking about.

Im not the one to answer that but the "offended" parties that wanted to boycott this game and cancel it completely!
ask them why they feel offended in 2020

It doesn't even matter if it's accessible, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas proved this long, long ago.

If it's anywhere in the game files, the rating is changed until being resubmitted.

Ridiculous comment. The cyberpunk genre doesn't have everyone walking around naked. Also followed the genre for years and that has NEVER been how its's depicted. In fact in most cases where nudity is used in cyberpunk, especially with the protagonist, it's done tastefully and not in an overtly sexual way. You may be 30 but your perspective seems to be very much of a teenager. What you're asking for makes no sense as a business. Maybe someone doing it in their free time for someone to jerk off to but otherwise that doesn't make sense nor is it essential for a game.

Hah, true. I'm as most men, I never grew up. Tits are always nice and fart jokes funny.

But lets put your assumptions of my maturity aside, as it really is beside the point and borderline stupid throw from your part.

Now, tell me now in what point did I say that everyone should be naked? Aside maybe some bizarre boostergang or european naturist movement, I have to check the sourcebooks if there really was such a group..

Also I dont know what you have been following, but at least in 2020 rpg, its many sourcebooks, many books that inspired it and in other art forms nudity is not censored, sexuality is praised and often described in detail when needed. It is not the central thing as I said, but it is there as one of its building blocks. And it very rarely is ashamed of itself. Have you seen 2020 pics of Alt? Are you saying that is tasteful? Or many other men and women shown in the suppliment books?

Now, take a deep breath and chill. You apparently really had not jumped on the deep end of the cyberpunk.

2077 was true and still is to some parts of 2020 and cyberpunk. Are those hookers tasteful? Is there anything tastful in that netrunner suit you can find? No. And they shouldn't be either. Our sense of tasteful and cpunk's sense of tasteful are quite different.

I did not say that every piece of cyberpunk is filled with naked people, nor that sex is everything that there is in cyberpunk. What I did say is that lovedolls, hookers and strippers never were so well clothed in cyberpunk as they are in 2077.

(Edited some typos here and there)

Well, both true and untrue.

The rating boards themselves don't go looking into files. In GTA: SA's case, the files were left in there but were inaccessible and the ESRB originally didn't give SA an AO rating, it gave an M rating.

Then the hot coffee mod happened.

This was when video games were being blamed for all sorts of bad real life behaviors (most notably violence and GTA was an easy target) and the mod had gained such notoriety that many politicians picked up on it and started criticizing the game and the ESRB rating board. If it wasn't for these, I doubt the ESRB would've changed it rating.

I don't have to modify files on my PS2 original copy, just use my unlock cheats with Code Breaker codes..

Not exactly, if they had known about it elsewhere they would have done something, as they did with Oblivion(Elder Scrolls IV), which had nude textures in it, they just included the fact it had blood and gore at M ratings to help justify it. Though, the irony there is, those nude textures never were meant to be used at all.

EDIT: Since not many know about this at all clearly, here ya go.. https://www.esrb.org/blog/esrb-changes-rating-for-the-elder-scrolls-iv-oblivion-from-teen-to-mature/

I was wrong about that in-game ad. It does appear, just not very often.

I play with no filter and have seen streams of people playing with it on. Comparing the two from what I have seen, its very few things to be honest. It's a few posters and the cut up girls and the girl in the bathtub is wearing underwear.
Haven't seen the romantic scenes so not sure, if they just turn black or a couple of seconds of the scene is removed. Because from what I have seen they don't really show anything that you haven't already seen in the game in the first mission, there is only one scene as far as I know that takes it a bit further, but again, nothing that rocks the boat compared to a standard Netflix movie.

But in regards to general gameplay and you just running around doing stuff, I would say that you really have to look for it to notice it. People still curse, saying "fuck" etc and talk about these things with the filter on from what I have seen, the outfits are the same as well, maybe 1 or 2 might have been removed because they are slightly transparent, again nothing you notice in general.

Just to give you an idea of what I mean when I said that it's more about making a immersive and believable universe, you can see this video with a guy, not talking about the sex thing, but just in general of why I think these things are important and doesn't really have anything to do with the sex/porn thing, everything he says here I agree with.

(Might contain some spoilers in case you haven't completed the game yet. But if you have, I doubt anything will be spoiled.)

I like the game so far cd projekt rd but you need to add more adult stuff and some things that are not so there they are 1. more nudity etc. because you did say that nudity is important all you have to do is just put it in the places that fits and makes sense here are some places that need more adult things
2.sex scenes are fine just need to be full nude etc. because people don't do it with there clothes on that i know of
3.add more dancers/hookers to joytoy places because after the update male dancers are wearing suits behind the glass witch does not fit the theme of the place and have them be nude/partial nude or wear something more sexy that fits the place etc. and take out female holograms behind the glass and put real ones there and make them nude or partial nude or have them wear something sexy oh and in the water tubes in the bars as well sorry if that is long request
4.add nudity when V takes a shower/ sleeps etc.
5.this is not that important i mean for me its not but for some it is let us free roam round night city in full nude and not just the inventory and if you can't let us do that then let us pick what underwear that V has on when we are in first person. because the ones that are there are ugly and not sexy
6.make the clothes fit better for v when you pick the big boobs option in character customization because when i wear a top v's boobs go small.
Ok there is the other stuff
1. remove the kids from the game that way you can add more adult things
2 give us more customization options for v like bigger boobs, eyes, hair, etc you get my point on this one and how you can do this is add a npc to the game or have it has a option when you go to a Ripperdoc
3.wall running with the mantis blades or in places in the game that makes sense
i think that's about it sorry for the long post but if you put in what i said you most likely will see a boost in fans and reputation oh this is the only way i could post because i'am new to the website and i don't know to post a new one oh one thing i forgot to add is you could add the adult stuff that was cut/removed as a dlc i would buy it:)

See this sentence, that isn't a past tense thing.

While those of us here in this thread support the idea of full nudity etc (and many people have already commented about it), that's the position of "fan" not "business". Business has to contend with the reality of ESRB and other ratings boards and those are swayed by public response.

CP2077 lives in the business side, that means agreeing to the terms of distribution platforms (Microsoft, Sony) and dealing with government imposed rating systems that can be changed on the whim of complaints (and are then very hard to get back to some sensibility). So I don't like the censorship of the game, but I respect that CDPR has to function as a business and make decisions that will create the most success for them as a publicly traded business.

The issue has been addressed officially - complaints about loss of nudity are noted.

We don't have to like it, but we are going to have to live with it for a bit yet.

Given this game's at times infantile Grand Theft Autoesque appeal to 14 year old boys attitude to sex and sexuality, I'm kind of gland there isn't so much attention to sexual content.

It's not a porn game or a dating sim, get over it.

its not a " combat game" ( division , destiny watchdog ac ) either yet you see multiple threads asking for "balancing" which I think is the lowest priority you can get. Combat is just the boring filler stuff between real content.

but I think this game has less nudity and adult content than w2 and three. They could have done much more with the Adult content both in the romances and city world
