Personally I side with the pro-nudity/sexuality discussants here, not because I am a horny or sex deprived teenager, basement monger or something along those lines, but because CP2077 was promised to be an adult game, and adult game apparently means that you can witness and play every aspect of a life and world to a high extend.
And CP2077 was told to be taking place in a world that is highly sexual. It indeed is: You see ingame a lot of purely sexualized advertisements, lots of sex shops, strip clubs, brothels, curb crawling, etc.. You even have the steaming cutscene of Johnny and Alt. Sex is a central part of that world.
As is violence and other crime clearly, both of which goes really, Really, REALLY far into the dark areas. Take as example the following 2 missions:
- Gig: Dirty Biz - You have to retrieve a BD about a child murder, and basically deal with the people who are, if not responsible, at least working or enjoying such BDs!
- Side Mission: The Hunt - As part of the River mission line, you have to free River's nephew - always referred to as to be a "child" (!!!) - from a psychopath. The crime committed against the abducted children is even displayed, yet for legal censorship reasons I assume as the victims are being displayed with adult bodies
First off: God be thanked you cannot actually see the contents of the BDs in that Gig! Even without, in my life I have not played anything even close as psychic intensive as that very mission.
Violence in CP2077 is really going to the limits so:
- we can see how people get killed (by the player or amongst each other)
- we can even see how they get beheaded and/or dismembered (quite bloody and gut showing flesh, not only destroyed metal cyberware), also by the player or amongst each other
- we can deal with child murder and child torture, basically child abuse
- if thinking the BD black market guy during the search for Evelyn further, we can be sure that he likely also would sell BDs about real child abuse to satisfy his customers' kinks
- we can even torture ourselves: crucify-execute a death sentenced guy for his religious BD, We can hammer the actual nails through his limbs!!!
- on the more funny side, we can help a guy who bought a faulty and thus harming genital cyberware in the side mission "Burning Desire"
But we cannot see our own characters naked in the world other than in very carefully and PG animated cutscenes (with V's romance partners and/or the 4 accessible joytoys)? We have to go showering dressed in underwear? Basically we cannot take part really, or just highly censored, in that carnal world? We go into brothels, BD show bars, strip clubs, and cannot see their work or e.g. buy a lapdance?
I guess the reason is that it follows the hypocracy of today's RL law makers: While violence is basically allowed and present in near every game other than many age 2-12 games, so in every MMORPG, FPS and similar games, the sexual aspect always gets mostly blended out or at max hinted at. The sexual aspect seemingly makes a game today differ in its rating from PG13 to Adult, apprently only that.
The reason I see for it is the hypocritical attitude in big parts of the world, especially though the USA, that children and youngsters (basically all <18 years of age) can consume up to extreme violence but not see anything sexual, ranging from a visible nipple over a full blown penetration to even sexual violence. Hypocritical because on the one side they want to banish it all from children, but they do not prevent children from being able to access porn on the internet, nor even send each other e.g. videos of sex with their school mates on their smart phones (it is at times referred as cyber mobbing, but in real it is highly and rightfully illegal child porn trading in RL committed by minors!). Why do I mention the USA in specific: It is a funny sidenote: In the USA it is legal to partake in the sex industry at the age of 18, but a beer you cannot buy before age 21...
To summarize:
I clearly do not want a game to explicitly show or even dabble the least in sex with or sexual violence to minors. But I want the adult RPG that was advertised and which I bought due to that. I want it to be adult in all those aspects, daily life, sex and crime. V has a daily job as mercenary, hired killer/thief/spy/saboteur, we see a guy pissing publicly behind Judy's home, we see elementary school kids excursions with their teachers (saw them cross a street in a cute line), we see gory violence, but we cannot see anything explicit sexual in a sexual world, while sex is even a central (but also somewhat hidden) part in our RL world?
I bought an adult RPG, I am adult, I can handle it, I want it (not for masturbation reasons but for immersion reasons!). It is part of not only our real life, but also a big part of NC's life!
Let parents care for their children/youngsters/minors to not access adult content, it is their responsiblity, not the responsibility of content creators, game makers or... myself.
