Is this game an rpg?

+
NO!

This is borderland 3.5

Here is an easy way to know if it is something else from a looter shooter. If you can finish the entire game without leveling up and ONLY loot the best guns that pop from enemies, it is a looter shooter.

And that is what you can do in Cyberpump 2069
Never played the porn parody version you mentioned. But you can also finish the game like that in Cyperpunk 2077

This question?lol...why people assume, that an rpg game is only because of dialogue choices and consequences...do you consider read dead 2 an adventure game,or an rpg?
Gta the same, tomb raider the same...what is the definition of role playing?is cyberpunk an rpg?or to put it that way?how do you role play games?

GOG listing Action first in the genre section is no different then when you look on an ingredients list of a food product and the first ingredient is what it contains the most of. Sure CP2077 has RPG elements but its not an RPG, its an open world action adventure with RPG elements.

I do find it odd though that the one thing CDPR was honest about is what you're refusing to give them credit for. They set out to make an RPG but at a certain point knew the game they were making was not an RPG so they started marketing it as an open world action adventure instead. They deserve some credit for being honest in that regard.

Yes, is it lacking depth... also yes
Still a great game just needs to be patched, but no patch will change the foundation

Yeah, personal skirmishes are against the forums rules. You're literally bringing our personal skirmish into another thread, I'm pretty certain the mods won't look favorably on that even if it's at least on topic.

I'll step out before we get another long standing thread locked.

Have fun.

Nothing I have spoken about is personal as I've only spoken about Cyberpunk 2077 and if its an RPG or not so unless you identify as Cyberpunk 2077 there has been nothing personal from me. If you do identify as Cyberpunk 2077, I wasn't aware of that.

... Are you serious?

Don't answer that actually.

No, things do not have to escalate to personal insults or attacks for moderators to consider it a personal skirmishes. Contact a moderator if you want some clarity on it.

On that, I'm out of this back and forth.

Well some might say since you play the role of Pacman its a role playing game but I can't agree.
Role comes from Medieval Latin rotula and referes to drama. The word scroll from the old french escroue probably describes the same thing: A roll of papyrus that contains written information.
I don't think that Pacman has a role. At least he doesn't seem to read from it. The greek word drama by the way, means action...

The player in Pac-Man plays the Role of Pac-Man who seeks victory over and avoids the drama of being defeated by the ghosts. It's simple and limited by the technology but there's certainly a role and drama there that isn't at all hard to see.

It’s an RPG in the same sense half of the games listed in the RPG category in most games stores would be.

It’s not an RPG in the same sense ACTUAL RPGs (KOTOR, TW, etc) are.

I recommend watching the following video, listen closely to what she says, word by word. It's 20 minutes of someone who knows and explains to the viewers and especially to those confused (who appears to be many), what ROLE-PLAYING truly is; AT GODDAMN LAST! someone who explains this clearly!! I scratch my head everytime someone says CP2077 is a poor RPG, even clueless youtubers saying Cyberpunk 2077 is not a role-playing game.

As someone who played the shit out of the Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop RPG decades ago, I agree 100% with what she says, especially the negatives she mentioned. This is how I approached the game, and I'm enjoying immensely despite its clear faults and undelivering in certain aspects within the gameplay and mechanics.

If after watching this video, you still complain about branching elements, instant consequences, about lifepath no having real consequences throughout the playthrough, etc; you didn't get the full video, imho.

The entire game is a GM, you just don't have let yourself being led by the hand of the game entirely; the world is already there, right in front of you. Come on, time to get it, role-play, act as you wish your V is, use your own imagination, be the player and make decisions how you truly believe your character thinks within the situation. The game gives you the option to mold around it. Anyway, the video explains this ×1000 times better than me attempting it.

Ah, so when I spared Sasquatch, the VB's, and Placid. The game didn't decide to not have missions setup for these choices. It was all my fault that I didn't give two rats about Eve or Judy. Trying this direction of the character. It was my fault that Sasqatch was promoted in tons of videos. And in reality, she (and her gang) ended up being worthless to the story. Killing the VB's and Sasquatch are the real choices the game wanted me to make. Because I had to feel sorry for Eve and Judy.

The game did have choices. At the start. The whole flathead mission has multiple ways in dealing with it. Playing nice and paying the money. So you don't get in a firefight. Let Jackie go out on Dum Dum. Go to Stout first, and get her money to pay for the Flathead. If you do that right, you sleep with her. If you do it wrong, she gets fucked. You can also steel her money and the flathead.

THAT is the type of detailed choices people wanted. This all than got reduced down to nothing, as you progress. It's like they where "obligated" to match the demo and narrators words. ONLY with what we saw in the "demo". Majority of the game than didn't bother anymore.
