The Union: Sketch outine for a Cyberpunk mod

+
People have been asking for story mods, and particularly for story mods about Judy. I've written a draft outline of one. Wpi;d this interest you? If it was built, would you play it? Can you think of ways to improve my plot outline? Would you join a modding crew to build it?

Obviously, I'm only going to go ahead and build this if we get RedKit or equivalent released for this game, because otherwise it would be more or less impossible; but also, I'm only going to do this if I get people interested in working on it with me: it's too big a thing for one person to do.

Aye, a lot of people will have got Meredith killed off, but there's something interesting about the sexually masochistic corpo-bitch. There's a cognitive dissonance which seems to me to indicate quite deep conflicts about her way of life, which might suggest she could be turned – which is why I pulled her into my plot.

But the fact that the player may have chosen another path through The Pickup is why I thought we might need to introduce another Militech person for the role if Meredith is no longer around.

oh and one more thing you might have to wait a lot for that "redkit" but hey if you know what you are doing why not

We got D'jinni with the Enhanced Edition of The Witcher, so about (if I remember rightly) a year after the game first came out; I was certainly using it in 2008. The version of RedKit for Witcher II was released in 2012, so again about a year after the game came out. Of course, no version of RedJit was ever released to the public for Witcher III.

But there is a lot of benefit to the developer in releasing high quality modding tools; it keeps the game alive with an active community of users for a long time after it would otherwise fade into memory. It means that members of the community add content to your game for free; and the consequence of that is that you sell more copies.

I don't know whether CD Projekt will release their latest RedKit for us. They haven't promised to, and it's a commercial decision, because a professional quality game development toolkit is a substantial asset. But the difference between Cyberpunk and Witcher III is that cutomers were broadly very happy with what they got with the Witcher III; with Cyberpunk, customers are noticably less happy. Releasing RedKit is a gesture which CD Projekt can make which will please the modding community greatly, and which will enable the modding community to build content (and fix issues) which will please a lot of CD Projekt's other customer. So while I don't know that they will, I think it's likely.

Hey ! Came from the Judy thread after seeing your post there. Didn't read the whole script, just small bits here and there, because i was in a hurry.

  • "At the end of this, if you got Judy out alive and you have done everything in the process to increase your friendship with her, whether or not you'd been in a romance with her before, and even if you are playing as male, then, after an interval of time, Judy will again get in touch and suggest that the two of you record a porn virtu together – 'just for us'. "

Did I understood that right ?
If so, that's a personal red flag. And even though I obviously can't speak for the community, I think that none of the active member of the Judy thread would be ok with that...
It's just that this kind of things show how much mods can turn base games into player fantasies without caring much for the original writing of the characters.
Then again, I didn't read the whole script... But I hardly see how you could justify a lesbian to ask for straight sex

Well, there are a lot of challenging ideas in that script. I've also had the pacifist volunteer to fight a suicidal rearguard action in order to let the others escape. But, it's a sketch. You can suggest improvements (or you can write your own completely different sketch).

People have reasons to make the sexual choices they do, and the people they choose to share with. Often, those choices are complex.

It's a video game. Quit acting like somebody making a fictional character change sexual orientation is a crime of the highest order. If you have this much of a problem with it, I'd be curious to know your stance on the Yaoi artform. Or is it only a problem when somebody makes a fictional gay character straight?

Get off your high horse and let art just be art.

I understand that we are talking about a mod, so you can pretty much do anything and I would be alright with that, considering I can just choose not to play it. I just wanted to point that out, in case you want to take that into consideration. Since this very question is dividing the community, you would have to heavily justify that with top notch writing to please everyone.
Pleasing everyone might not be what you're after, and I don't even think it would be possible. Just wanted to answer the initial questions of the thread.

I would have argued on the "sexual choice" were it the subject of the thread, but it's not, so I'll just leave it to that.

Oh...
Okay...
I'm sorry, I hadn't realized. Just give me a sec to get off of my horse, 'cause it's just so goddamn high.
*ugh*
[stretch toward the ground]
[splash !]
*Damn, how do you peasents live in all that mud...*
Okay... so... now that we are eye to eye... wtf ?
How is anything you say related to what I said ? The dude asked for feedback on his mod project and so I gave mine, wich was a warning about writing consistency. If you want to bang Judy like a real man with the help of a mod, do as you please. If you want to jerk on some tentacle shit, be my guest. Hell, I've been modding my skyrim since 2011 and i've seen some weird stuff. I even enjoyed some. But that's where you have to answer one important question : do you want a mod wich is believable and respect the base material, or not? If you do, then you have to consider character's personalities and emotions. If you don't... well you don't have to, and you can just live your personal fantasy. But you'll lose people on the way.
Reading your post, you are starting a debate on a subject I don't want to discuss. Furthermore, this subject is unrelated to the thread, so there was really no point in writing that from the start.
I would have been very curious to read your definition of art, but I have other fish to fry, so i'm just gonna get back on my horse and run far away from here.
"pardon my french", but adieu.

Thanks for clarifying. Your original response to the OP did come off as very condescending in a lot of ways, like you were telling them off for even harbouring the notion that Judy's character could be rewritten to suit their own preferences. You do have a valid criticism regarding narrative consistency, and if that's the only thing you take issue with then I apologise for making assumptions.

Sadly, the current sketch doesn't work anyway, because it's canon (Judy herself says it) that the revolution at Clouds failed. I suppose you could capture Clouds from the Tyger Claws a second time but that begins to look a bit contrived; alternatively, Judy could set up a new co-op joytoy club, but I'm not really persuadec that that initself is revolutionary enough.

Nevertheless I do think that looking at the politics of Night City from a left-wing perspective has potential to make a very interesting story, and I do think that Judy, being charismatic and idealistic, and having led the first revolution at Clouds, makes an ideal protagonist for that story.

What I'd like to try to do is write a story in which Judy is the protagonist, and the player character (V) has opportunities either to support or to undemine Judy but is not driving the story themselves.
