CDPR on a roll

OK my Polish isn't so hot; actually it's pretty nonexistent apart from the fact that ogorki doesn't mean small ogre ;)

Any chance you could paraphrase the article?

Also does anyone know if the staff get profit share?

In short: in 2020 CDPR made record profits. The details will be revealed on April 22nd. This record is mainly the result of a very, very good CP2077 sales. And because CDPR is not planning to release any other game soon, the company future profits are strictly dependent on CP2077 improvements (patches, hotfixes) and growth (DLC, expansions). Ergo: CDPR needs to take care of this game (franchise). ;)

Thankyou
PLN 1.154 billion is +/- $300million so that's a pretty large chunk of change when you compare that to the PLN 342 million/ $90 million in 2015 it really is a very big deal for them.

Hopefully this will give some of the worriers a little hope.
I can't imagine any company abandoning a product that has been such a financial success; you could certainly justify further development costs to sustain future revenues

A small comparison:

Estimated CDPR results in CP2077 release year(2020)

Revenue: 2.14 billion PLN
Net profit 1.15 billion PLN

Release: December

CDPR results in Witcher 3 release year(2015)

Revenue: 0.8 billion PLN
Net profit 0.34 billion PLN

Release: May

Glad the '20 numbers looked good...will be curious to see what guidance they give to investors for 21. Not being on the Playstation store is definitely going to have an impact, though likely a problem for q3 and beyond.

I'm happy because you have the reasons to develop Cyberpunk 2077 in depth and make us live great experiences with this great game that needs to continue to be developed and improved in all its imperfections.

Much of those sales come from aggressive and false marketing that they have said they will not repeat again, because many people have felt cheated.

They can succeed again simply by doing a great job on a 100% real game that will leave us speechless.

You have fooled us once, 2 we would be idiots, there will not be such important reserves in future CDPR games, they will have to regain trust and for that the development of Cyberpunk 2077 will be their best weapon.

But yes, I'm glad. I want to live a more intense and more interactive experience in Night city and these earnings results are going to allow it without a doubt.

DON'T DEFRAUD US CDPR !!!! YOU ARE ONE OF THE FEW COMPANIES THAT CAN DO GREAT DIGITAL EXPERIENCES.

Found some interesting facts.

"How much did it cost to develop Cyberpunk 2077?"
Totalling all Cyberpunk-related costs together, the whole project cost approximately 1.2 billion Polish złoty. If you'd prefer that in local currency, that's about $330 million USD, (€275.738.194,74), adjusted for 2020 inflation. That's about $121 million, (€101.095.306,71), for development costs plus about $209 million, (€171.615.731,65), for marketing costs.

"How many copies did cyberpunk refund?"

"How Long Has Cyberpunk 2077 Been in Development?"
Based on what we can work out, we’d guess about 9 years.
We don’t know precisely how long the game has been in development for, and it matters when you count development starts.
Here’s how we get to the number we did, though fair warning it is a rough estimate.

The first trailer was released in 2013, so it’s at least 7 years, but the game would need to be developed a little to produce a meaningful trailer. A team was supposedly working on the game in 2012 according to a CD Projekt Red Conference,
that makes 8 years. Though the game was likely in development a bit before this, so we’d guess 2011 as the likely earliest year development started. That’s roughly 9 years of development time for Cyberpunk 2077.

8.2 million (Digital copies) x $59.99 = $491.918.000,00 (€410.983.815,55) - $330.000.000,00 = $161.918.000.00 (€135.276.267,96) ÷ 500 (Cyberpunk 2077 staff) = $323.836,00 (€270.551,99) per staff. I myself think 7 years of development, so...
$323.836,00 ÷ 7 years = $46.262,28 (€38.651,95) per staff per year.

I would say, not a goldmine but a decent salary.

My bad posted to quick and edit after :(
Not sure that it is divided like that (some have to take a bigger part) and must certainly remember to keep some for the next development (those who bought it, will not do it anymore) :D

Yep noted (and edit) but you post too quick :D
But it's the cost at the release, i think.
The best it's to do the same, but in one year (less sell and sam work for just patch/fix) :)

Yep. Managers earn a whole lot more, I'm sure. Was only curious as to how much the average staff earned, hench I calculated it evenly.
Post automatically merged:

Um also surely the $330 mill development costs would include staffing?
This is based on total development costs from the first day till release.

the development of the game has not reached 4 years. When they released the first trailer in 2013 there was no development behind it and when they released the 2018 demo it was full of a lot of design but no actual mechanics developed and most of the game did not exist.

It was from 2018 when the big investments were made and the intense development began. Keanu's decision was made in 2019 and a twist from rpg to action game was taken. The game did not begin development before 2017.

This game 7 years of development as you say, has not had, hopefully ..... it does not even reach 4.

Have really no idea how long development was. These guys think 9 years. I heard 7 years from a lot of sources out of different directions, so presuming as.

7 years ago his game was The Witcher 3 that came out in 2015 and with its expansions it was developed until almost 2017. When The Witcher 3 was terminated was when the development of Cyberpunk 2077 began. CDPR did not work on 2 games at once. That is something that he from now on he wants to do: develop two AAA games in parallel with two connected teams of developers.

I don't know anything about their development costs the past few years, but doesn't this math assume that the entirety of the $330M development cost was paid in 2020? If $330M is the cost incurred over X years of development, it's paid over those years, not all at once, right? So we'd have to look at what portion of the $330M was attributable just to 2020 in order to calculate something like this.
