Why was braindance removed, especially since we can buy braindances?

Hoping CDPR has plans for this feature. I imagine their main focus right now is squashing bugs and giving whatever performance boosts they can, but it would be fantastic to see some recreational braindance options as DLC down the line.
Every time I did one I felt handcuffed to the cut scene until I perfectly got the info they needed not ever being able to leave until perfection was achieved...not the way I wanted to spend my time. As I.ve said before this is the most expensive movie in my game library!

It's a game made for adults. I realize these little side activities are far from being most important, but they add to the overall package in cool ways, and their absence is noticed.
I think they initially planned to give players way more freedom and 'very' naughty side activities, hell they even allow you to customize your old chap and there're shops that sell dildos the size of legs..

But at some point during development they decided to hush hush all those naughty things because while you can say that this game is M 18+ rated for adults and I agree. because it's fine to carry a M 18+ rating and still advertise and sell it in 'normal' shops. Last few GTA and RDR games has always been M 18+ rated. And done very well.

BUT

IF they include all the naughty stuff everybody wanted, the game will surely get the AO rating, now AO is a whole other story , it's above and beyond, in the mysterious tentacle land with all the weird stuff only available in hardcore adult shops . Not the best place to be especially if your investors still wanted the money. And with that AO rating, most game sites and magazines can no longer display and publish reviews, can you imagine the cover of PC GAMER saying 'wow, cool tentacles..' ? Hmmmnn.... And major retailers will NOT sell AO rated games, and most definitely not on PSN or XBOX.

I remember how Bethesda got in a lot of trouble for have nude people in Oblivion but it was really a mod that put that
in. Our (USA) government and vendors just could not understand the diffidence however.

Some governments force you to remove certain flags, some force you to remove BONES! Some will not allow RL versions of guns. Global market is a new kind of color beige.

Indeed , and the older gamers among us may still remember the GTA:SA 's 'hot coffee' scandal. 'Interactive sex scene' is a huge NO in ESRB's eyes..

There's nothing special about country-gated content. Games have had this for years. Despite the gore we see over here in Japanese-made games, Japan actually forbids the display of blood, for example, and it's often replaced by fluids of a different color, or something else entirely, over there. If PEGI allows things for an 18+ rating that the ESRB doesn't, then just add that extra stuff to the European release and let Americans wish they lived on this side of the pond. No biggie.

I agree with the pointless BDs in stores. If the BD headset Judy gives you at the beginning of the game isn't a legit BD headset I can understand not being able to use them, but you can find new BD headsets out and about and even from stores. common, Uncommon, superior, epic and legendary versions can be acquired through gameplay but seemingly remain "incompatible with you software". There is a monk who gives you a BD that you can view in the quest and that works but only for the quest, why can't any others be used. It's clearly cut or unfinished content.

I think the implication is that the braindance headset Judy gives you is what you use for all the subsequent in-quest braindances. Otherwise the player wouldn't necessarily have a headset and in logic terms it would become a question of "how is V even watching this".

While it seems to me that braindances were supposed to be a bigger part of the game than they ended up being, I'm glad of that. While they're a novel mechanic, they're not a very engaging one: you're basically trawling around a video three times to find small amounts of information. Any more than there is and I think they'd have oustayed their welcome.

Not sure why anyone would buy a mainstream computer game to watch porn -- just buy some porn -- but that's a whole different discussion.

Being able to buy and watch Braindances would have been fun but to me it would have been more of a novelty rather than anything else so the fact that you can't is no great loss.

They should have at least given you a Braindances to play when ever you want of the RECORDED part of the Judy date...

Still got my fingers crossed that they do something with BD in the DLC. I loooved the BD sections, but I agree that there should be much more of a challenge and multiple solutions to the section itself. Missing details should affect the overall mission later in the game. That kind of thing.

Makes sense that this would be a huge gameplay element for netrunners and police.

I spend ridiculous amount of time looking into ever crack, on top of every shelf and behind every potted plant looking for hidden "treasure". So the BD to me was also fun. It would have been cool if they had more of them and there was an Easter egg or some reward (in game not a "achievement" ) in one of them for those that spent the effort looking. I had expected that to happen in the meditation BD. Or at least some game physical bonus for the meditation BD.

The last Oblivion mod I had been working on (never finished it unfortunately) was for a new "Stress" meter. After a day of fighting and physical effort or a lot of spell casting your would get various points of stress that would build up and inflate the meter.

The stress could be reduced in all kinds of various ways such as spending time in the tavern talking and drinking. Various hobbies like colleting and displaying any item you designated (such as weapons or jewelry it was your choice of any one TYPE of item in the game). Spending a game hour watching the sun set (that one was "fun" to figure out how to make happen. The mod used game data to put an tiny yellow ball at the sun location moving it with the sun as it raise or set. If the player looked at this ball at certain time of morning or evening for a time the mod could track this).

But also I had meditation where you would stare at a light candle while tapping a key in a rhythm, then you would experience light and sound and music effects. POOF! Stress all gone...

Would have been nice to get a timed healing bonus or something form the BD meditation

Interesting Idea. To incorporate what you have described into Cyber punk, perhaps after a while of doing your Biz in Night City, the relic malfunctions could become more intense and there for you will need to pop a pill you acquire from Misty after the heist mission to reduce the malfunctions.

A little like the malaria attacks in Far Cry 2.

Funny you should mention the relic malfunctions becoming increasingly vivid.
Last weekend when I played some hours with my Corpo, after the mission with Panam where you get Hellman (Breaking Light), the mechanic of the relic malfunction persisted even after closing/finishing that mission. It turned the play-session into a real trip, regretfully cut short because I underestimated a Cyberpsycho (Anna). In a strange way I really liked it though, because it made the experience go completely different and unique.
If a BD, visitng a bar or doing anything that can be considered relaxing would make the malfunctions subside, that would've been a cool mechanic in the game also.
I have recorded a bit of that play-session, I just have to cut down that video because there's too much menu gazing. However when I get to that I could upload it for the experience.

Yeah same here the malfunctioning visual effect lingered with me after leaving the room until I reloaded the save because there isn't a way to stop it.

With my Nomad I'm about to start that same mission, I can check if I get the same issue (or feature ;) ) and see if I can get some fun with it again.
One thing thats for sure is that it made driving reeaally tricky :p

I find it very fitting however because is showed what I always envisioned the act 3 sequence would be truly.
