Right, so he loses the netrunner, but I still stand by his acting score... :p

I wasn't exactly saying Neo wasn't a netrunner but i was rather saying that Tank and Dozer were the real deal.. They didn't automatically had powers just because they were rescued from the Matrix, they never even been to Matrix, they learned what they know (And i assume they worked hard to learn it, Matrix cannot be easy an program to handle) and they were good at what they did.. Just saying..

By the way, i like Keanu Reeves and i don't think he is a bad actor.. It is a matter of taste i guess..

Where as I said Tank and Dozer were techies because they didn't go into the Matrix. Netrunners manipulate it from the inside, using their abilities, (IE 'Interface',) to 'do their thing'.

And i agree on that point.. My point was, if anyone could be classified as netrunners in Matrix universe (Where there is no net, only a virtual reality) it would be them.. Otherwise we are talking about a system where people are netrunners automatically.. And they do not even really manipulate the system (again, Tank and Dozer does that), they just can do their little tricks only because they know none of it is real.. They are the closest thing you got..

But for all intents and purposes, the matrix IS the net. It is a virtual reality network. That is basically the same as the net in Cyberpunk.

But not in the true sense. One is a virtual reality network.. (you know, with intended purpose of virtual reality only and imagine that it is net that controls you, not the other way around) Imagine something like an MMO, a gaming program. Only connected to the computer that runs it.

The second one is the net as we know it.. It connects everything.. Much like Skynet.... Yeah..

The difference is caused by Matrix being such an unconventional network. But probably i'm not really wording what i mean that well..

I don't think so. While anyone in 2020 can use the NET and they don't require the use of a VRI for it, (they can get away with just using the standard keyboard, mouse and monitor,) Netrunners require the Virtual reality Interface to hack and 'do their thing'. It's all bout the form the interface takes, because what is the Matrix if not a virtual environment that represents data in a format that is interpreted directly by the user as though through their senses? The only real difference between the Cyberpunk NET and the Matrix is that the majority of the people in the Matrix are not aware of the true nature of their present environment and so they do not know that it can be manipulated to their own ends.

System manipulates them as long as they are connected, not the other way around.. We are talking about a sentient network here. And in Matrix, supposed "netrunners" like Neo, don't really hack anything.. Because they are connected to a single program, not the whole network.. (MMO example..) And from there, they are powerless to go anywhere else.. They were only able to reach the source because a rouge program allowed them to go.. (gave them a key and died) How often would that happen? So they are really powerless over Matrix..

The Matrix doesn't manipulate, it reacts. Huge difference.

You miss that whole cycle thing with the source.. How many times did the chosen one appeared on the Matrix? What was it, like 7 times? You do notice that every time he appeared (except the last), he got manipulated.. Also, if you watched The Animatrix (which is confirmed to be canon by the way) you would know that the Matrix usually goes out of its way to manipulate people..

But that is the AI, the Architect. The network itself is just a construct, an artificial environment.

Thats the thing, all "programs" in the Matrix has their own AI's.. Let that be the agents or the animals or the weather and so on.. You know, Matrix is like a game.. (again with the MMO example) I'm sure the robots has their own network, what we see is just a single virtual reality program called Matrix.. It is not like they can hack the robots or reach some information from there.. (other than walking around and occasionally flying, they are powerless) Matrix is like a chatroom in the net.. Netrunners (if there were any in the Matrix universe) would be able gather there through the net but they wouldn't be able to do anything else..

Polish and Japanese film by the director of Ghost in the Shell

going to give this a watch soon

I would like to remind people posting in this thread to read the OP, and understand what the thread is for. It seems to have been hijacked for a discussion about the Matrix, and now people are starting to post random videos which have nothing to do with the actual thread, so how about we let the thread get back on track, and use it for what it was meant?

There's another thread for videos out there.

TBF, the Matrix stuff was a discussion about how Neo would be defined within the CP universe, and that conversation stopped over a week ago.

I stopped caring when I saw how many 9s and 10s there were. Either there are a LOT of perfect representations of Cyberpunk 2020 Roles out there, or a lot of people who have a very generous idea of what each Role does.

Well, why don't you look them up and critique them individually? That way, those of us who are right can know we're excluded from your ranting at lesser beings.

Also, the tonguebiting I had to do through all that Matrix circlejerking... That movie was just... bad... but has special effects and a vaguely pro-goth/geek aesthetic. Still some of the worst acting, writing and direction I ever witnessed paired up to some of the largest plotholes ever. Like cows. Can you imagine the cost of keeping cows in the matrix as your bio-batteries (that notion is ridiculous in and of itself) as compared to a human Matrix? And there are plenty of cows, and plenty of info out there on how to make more. Hell, if that was the movie they made, I'd have liked it. Honest, straightforward, and well within the means of all the "talent" involved. Could have called it "CudTron 6000"

Still, such a well marketed movie that I'm still hearing about the significance and relevance of a movie that did and said nothing remotely new. None of the concepts were new in the '50s FFS...

Dude, you can always comment on someone's view of a character, and say it's not quite that iconic of a representation of the role. They are, after all, only opinions.

In all honesty though, and I'm rarely honest, the rating bit was a last second addition to my idea. I see now I should've just left it out. I meant it as a thread that could just compile characters from all over, slap a Cyberpunk 2020 role on them, and perhaps make people go "hey yeah, I get that!"

It's not that serious of a thread. Is it?

IT TOTALLY IS.

SRS BIZNSS. I did comment a bit, but it's so subjective. Who am I to tell someone that Macgyver is a terrible Cyberpunk techie? Seems arrogant of me. Arrogant and condescending.

And we all know, I'm not that.
