Why only apply realism in combat?

Why only apply realism in/during/after combat, dismemberments, executions?

---------- Updated at 07:46 PM ----------

Because we are playing in a fantasy world. The realism spoken about combat is referring to Physics which apply to both real and fantasy worlds. Everything else... Hard to say a unicorn isn't realistic when it is in a fantasy world :D

What?

What else would you like to apply it to? Why quote yourself and say the same thing?

@wichat.571 What?
Wasn't sure what you meant by applying it to other things... For me physics rules apply to both reality and fantasy whereas other thing can't break immersion like say a unicorn, that doesn't exist in reality can be in game without breaking realism because it fits in with that fantasy...

I'll take all the crazy shit CDPR has and more. :p I don't play games for realism, but I can understand people who could be bothered by it.

1- What else would you like to apply it to? 2- Why quote yourself and say the same thing?

1- I do not know, how about a fountain/or gush/ or stream (I don't see the difference from Google trans) of blood from the jugular ejected according to blood pressure?

2- by respect to Lieste post

Ditto :D

1. Isn't that in combat? I thought you meant why not apply it to things outside of combat also... my bad.
2. Must of missed that one, sorry. Didn't mean to offend or anything like just curious..

If we can't discuss stuff like that on the forum, where else should we do it?

It seems like it's almost forbidden these days to say anything against this game, even if it's just a minor point somebody mentioned. There is actually no need for people to rally up like some evil force threatens the game just because somebody dared to point out something that s/he doesn't like that much...

Who said we can't discuss anything? I'm pointing out that people seem to react rather emotionally, overzealous in some cases. I'd find it exhausting. I guess I can't see being disappointed with something I find so trivial, and I suppose I'm glad I don't.

And imho "blind hype" is even more destined to lead to disappointment than having a good insight in what you can expect and what not (with all strengths AND probably weaknesses)... ;)

That may be, but so what? I think we have a pretty good insight so far.

Let's playing a little more...

doesn't belong to fnatasy to puta magic rune in a sword? Maybe is there a repellent potion that helps separate the meat as if they were exactly be the same magnetic poles?

Conjunction of Spheres? isn't that unreal pyshic?

Whcih world are we talking about? Sapkowski's one or another else?

I'm worried that decapitations might happen too often and will lose it's charm after a while. It'd be better if the current rate of decapitations only happens when Geralt imbibes some strength enhancing potions like Rook, that way they can communicate the usefulness and badassery of potions and strengthening the lore that witchers are monstrous.

@wichat.571 magic is part of the world but there's no magic being applied to wonky decapitation physics. There's no magical reason for them to behave that way .

When wielding a sword, it's the swiftest way to bring down your foe: strike for the head. Mediaeval knights usually aimed for the head.

I think it's just fine. Especially if you can press a button to skip the slow-mo. Looking at other games where moves like this happen, for example the Batman Arkham games, where at the end of each and every fight, the last ko gets a slow-mo, but once you know every single move and have seen them 1000x times, you tend to just skip that part. If this slow-mo won't happen with every fight, it's all good in my opinion.

IMO when magic is involved it isn't about physics any more, so not really sure how to answer those questions(to me potions like the witcher's are magical). I also don't pay that much attention to what is realistic while I'm playing a game unless it is very glaring, so thank for pointing some things out I just plain don't think about. Again I'm not against or for the effects being the way they are. Just thought I'd add my 2 cents even if they are only worth a hay penny... I was talking about Earth (The real one you know comparing reality and all...) world wise, never read the books so can't even guess at how things worked in his world.

But maybe this is all going off topic a bit too much...

Normal humans, not very strong or young, not point of comparison with a Witcher of course. Yes I'm naive, but don't be so uncompromisingly scientists. Let your imagination enjoy a little.

You see it for yourself. The head falls just downwards, to the floor. Not upwards, against the direction of the sword/hit. That makes just no sense AT ALL.

I don't mind if the head fly away A BIT. But please AT LEAST in the right direction, indicated by the direction of the applied force...

I see a couple "flying" more than a meter away, the direction? I haven't calculated the variables. But it's OK. Realism for some things and unrealism for others. It's a matter of taste, really.

It's Geralt, after all! He has finely-honed Witcher sword-skills: the heads fly whichever way he wants, with a superbly angled upstroke of his blade, to insure proper distance and lift.

So why are you here, argumenting like you knew something about physics? The direction is of course important, it's actually among the most important variables her. It's all about direction and speed.

And honstely, it's kind of sad to say "it's all subjective" or "it's all about taste" once your arguments got defeated. I experience the very same pointless strategy when for example defeating religious "arguments". In the end, logic and arguments were always never important though the same people came up with them in the first place...

But nobody never said that it's not about taste at all. If you like inconsistent games that break immersion just for some eye-candy that gets boring and repetitive after just a few hours anyway, good for you. But it's not just about taste here, it's also about respecting the lore (yes, again). If you make a game that builds on an already existing franchise you should be obliged to honor it and stick to it as much as possible. That should actually be pretty understandable. If that's a high priority for you personally, that's of course another question. But for me it is, because I truly love the original franchise and world.

There is no superbly angled upstroke in the video, just a pretty normal top down hit.

Try again. ;)

Also, why trying to make up arguments? CDPR already admitted that the only did it for the cheap effect, the eye-candy, the obvious gore-porn. They know that it's against physics and human bodies and body parts don't behave like that when hit with a sword. There is no point in discussing that anymore...

@Phalzyr
I meant discussing, sharing arguments. Sorry, no native speaker here. ;)

I guess the big difference comes from the fact that for me personally, the head FLYING off doesn't really matter. If it were to just drop off realistically, I still receive the exact same impression of brutality, there's no additional "point" made due to unrealistic crazy flying heads.

For me it kind of sits in the same category as unrealistic sword sheathe sounds. I don't need some obnoxious metallic clank to know I've drawn/sheathed my sword, you could give me just that dull realistic leather slide and the point would be exactly the same. However at the same time, I respect why CDPR might have chosen to do it in this way, it's just the style and I don't particularly have a problem with it.

Everyone is sensitive to different things as to what becomes realistic for them, or what counts as (and breaks) "immersion", and in this case I understand and respect both sides of the argument. Although at the end of the day this is CDPR's creation, and I highly doubt anything is about to change at this point in development (Not to mention I'd say the folk against this are in the extreme small minority - not that it makes your opinion any less valid). So like myself and issues with the Alchemy system I think it's honestly just a matter of acceptance at this point.
