Wing Commander creator is making a PC-only space sim

It's PC only. It's a space sim. It will support Oculus Rift. And it's being made without a publisher. There's also a first trailer inside.

Wot you think? I'm definitely up for this kind of game, it's been a long time since Tie Fighter.

"I say to you that the reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated"

"I am a PC game" cue to epic music.

My thoughts are "FUCK YEAH"

Yeah, it's gonna run Cry Engine too so it's some serious PC business. The RPS piece provides some extensive info on UI and stuff and it all sounds pretty awesome. It's also a kind of game that would actually tempt me to try out the Oculus Rift with it.

Here's the site: http://robertsspaceindustries.com/star-citizen/

You can pledge there and read more about the project.

Wow, I've always loved the old space sim games. Having an updated and enhanced version is like a wet dream come true. Hopefully they can deliver on at least half of what they hope to achieve.

Final a game that has the potential to be a really good space flight simulator with attention to story. Although to pledge I have to see more what there are planning, some things sound a little to far fetched,on other note would be great if they add Mark Hamill to the cast of VAs.

Well, you can actually see what they are planning on the video I linked (http://player.vimeo.com/video/51135962) and the whole site has plenty of info, far more than other Kickstarter projects. They already have some assets built and are showing them.

They already raised almost 100 000 USD, in just few hours. The site is overloaded all this time.

Some extensive info on the game with lots of in-game footage: http://www.gamespot.com/shows/gamespot-live/?event=roberts_space_industries_gdc_panel20121010

Based on the video I saw on Kotaku today, the fact that it takes places in the Vega sector, with a Bengal Class strike carrier, it looks like Chris Roberts is rebooting the Wing Commander Franchise... and I'm ok with that.

But still it can't be an official reboot, cause he would be torn to pieces by EA's lawyers.

Yeah, i dont think EA would easily let Wing Commander rights go because they are going to cast animate dead on it and make it space-corridor-action-shooter.
Or a F2P shoot-em-up.

So Star Citizen is good news indeed. Now just someone can convince Lucas Arts to make a new, DECENT X-wing vs. Tie Fighter game...

I was checking out the new videos posted for this game and it was enough to convince me to pledge some money. The game looks very promising and if they don't get the amount required to fund it they offer refunds. But the main reason I pledged is to get access to the Alpha and Beta versions! I love being able to communicate with developers to help improve a product (not to mention getting to play the game two years before release). Also, if you pledge more than $30 now then when the game is released you don't have to pay any more (vs $60 for retail price).

They are already at 1.6 million (together with Kickstarter) so I'm pretty sure they will make it. I'm gonna pledge myself soon.

He's asking for a lot of money....somehow I think he can deliver.

And look at those stretch goals, 5 million? We'll see.

Probably going to pledge too on Kickstarter but what I saw was that the 5 million are the optimal goal, does not mean they will not do the game with less.

Unlike most recent Kickstarter projects he has already built a significant part of the game, probably investing his own money. So he has more to show than just "ZOMG old school FTW!!!1" and much more to lose. That's what makes me believe in this project.

Lol. Yeah the old school thing is well, cheap to make as well. I'll probably toss some money at this project.

Just stumbled on this only 480p quality but still a lot of gameplay to look at.
