    Thoughts on expanding/improving combat

The timing mechanic of TW1 was godawful, I hope they don't bring back anything timing related; it's just not fun to be restraining your clicks when the emphasis on combat in this game is clearly on positioning and not on the timing of your swings - this contrasts from tw1 where positioning...

CD Projekt To Stop Legal Threats

What are you on about? Of course you can 'judge' people for doing things you don't agree with. Not to mention it has an effect on all legal customers, of which the person you quoted is presumably one.

The Witcher 1 vs The Witcher 2.. Which one do you prefer?

Removing the QTEs and the cinematic kill animations in favour of TW1 animations would fix the biggest issues with TW2's combat. Personally I'd like rolling removed and the pirouettes brought back, but that's a minor gripe. TW2's combat is SO much better than TW1's though.

Rate the Witcher 2 Combat System

Haven't played arena yet, but Quen+Roll, roll, slash is an insta-win formula; especially if you have levelled up Quen. Personally, I now try to fight using only the Aard, potions, bombs and my sword like I did in TW1. It's harder in some ways, but much more rewarding.

Yes but there are a number of departures from the books in the games, an obvious one being that Geralt in the games always carries two swords on his back, which is not the case in the books. What I mean of course is that while it may be truer to the books to have Geralt meditate, it isn't...

The Witcher 1 vs The Witcher 2.. Which one do you prefer?

^This. I agree pretty much with the sentiment. I love the (sword) combat of TW2. I find it much more rewarding to defeat foes simply because I'm solely responsible for everything Geralt does now; there's no auto blocking or automatic combinations while I rhythmically tap my mouse, just simple...

How helpful is TW1 for TW2 storywise?

What I want to know, is what Geralt did with Kaer Morhan's mutagens if Foltest kept him alongside between TW1 and TW2. According to Triss at the start of TW2 the Assassin had only been killed by Geralt a month before the game started. Considering how far south of Kaer Morhan Temeria is, it'd be...

In fairness, there were two styles (fast and strong) they were just not as distinct. IMO it was a better choice to make, as it focuses on the different ethic of each style rather than an unnecessary separate collection of moves which, let's be honest, looked kinda goofy in the original anyway...

    The next Witcher game speculations!

I just hope they keep the essence of the TW2 combat system, where you're responsible for the sword attacks, and not simply having Geralt chop away while you rhythmically click the mouse. TW1's evasive pirouettes and sidesteps would fit nicely in with the rolls in a contextual nature, and...

    Witcher 1

I'm replaying the first right now. I've decided I want to finally create a 'perfect' save for import into TW2, as previously I had only ever done the bare minimum to get Raven's Armour, Aerondight and G'valchir imported. The visuals are good enough that playing the game in 2011 still doesn't...

Great game with room for improvement.

I agree with the imported gear thing; instead of making it weak and completely undermining its TW1 potency, it should just have been dealt with in the way described. Saesenthesis should have custody of the imported silver sword until Vergen, and the Raven's armour could easily have sustained...

Did Anybody Else Find the Medallion (z) Use Annoying?

I don't think the TW1 system would fit with TW2. However, the medallion's ability to highlight things should be done in the same way; by which I mean holding the medallion key would keep things highlighted.

Just my 2 cents on The Witcher 2

I don't think you can really justify saying that you've effectively paid for the free extra content buy buying the game in 'beta mode'. CDP are one of a rapidly shrinking minority of developers who actually release new content for free, instead of making everyone purchase it. That being said...

Control system ruins game for me.

Exactly. The reason point and click can't work in TW2 is that the combat now requires more user input; you're responsible for your own sword strikes and evasions, and you die pretty quick on dark mode. I don't think the TW1 option would work here at all.

Rate the Witcher 2 Combat System

I really dislike the combat system in TW1, it's just too easy most of the time because you're neither responsible for the attacks you land or your blocks/parries. It also suffers from lack of responsiveness at times, especially when using the Blizzard potion, which I miss in TW2 :( I'd rate...
