As far as I know, the sword problem was addressed in 1.07. I don't think it is as bad as it used to be. I've got a PC exactly like the OP, and The Witcher 3 never looked as good or ran as good as it does with 1.07. So I recommend installing it. As long as you've got the game from gog and you still have the 1.06 installer, nothing is stopping you from doing a clean install and going back to it...
