2.1 update problem

I updated TW2 to the 2.1v and I cant get it to play now. When i try to open the launcher all I get is a windows error that said the launcher failed to start and windows was searching for a solution. When i go to the system folder and click witcher2.exe my curser gets the little spinning circle for a couple seconds and then nothing.

I had the same problem - tried looking for information on fixes and eventually just decided to reload the game. Now I am now back to 2.0 and everything is running fine.

Do either of you have An AS Rock z68 motherboard with virtu software installed on it
Any Kaspersky 2011 Antivirus or Kaspersky Internet Security 2011
OR Adobe Acrobat Extended Pro

Patch 2.1 updates the .NET framework.
Have you tried to run the game after you restart your PC ?

This is the only sure solution so far:

-uninstall the game.

-re-install and update to 2.0

-DO NOT UPDATE TO 2.1. PATCH 2.1 IS BROKEN AND WILL PREVENT YOU FROM LAUNCHING THE GAME.

I do not have an AS Rock z68 motherboard and i cant reinstall the game because my cd drive has recently quit on me.
I have restarted my pc several times since the patch but to no avail.

What about Any Kaspersky software or Adobe Acrobat Extended Pro .

What is your antivirus program ? Disc or Digital if digital what provider .

Is that the latest version ? One thing you can try disconnect from the internet and disable webroot program and all services associated with the webroot software . then retry the game . If the game starts then webroot would be the culprit .

Personally, I can't even download the patch. Everytime when the launcher pops up I get this. Pretty funny...over the download bar it says: Connection refused. Retrying in 10 seconds. - but of course, nothing happens.
My game is the hungarian version, anybody with the same problem?

Try getting the patch manually from HERE but before installing look in your Documents>witcher 2>downloads folder and if 2.1 is listed then delete it then run the 2.1 patch you downloaded as administrator .

There might be a way to find out which program is causing the difficulty but it would require quite a bit of patience on your part and time and computer restarts to accomplish it .

Patience i got but time i dont have a whole lot of. However im willing to give it a try

First if you have a disc version of the game you can install the game and patch to 2.0 and forego the 2.1 patch . But if you actually want to find out which program is causing W2 to not start you would need to do a clean boot . All info can be found in the link

I will try the microsoft way first because the only way i would be able to get TW2 installed on my system again would be to get the torrent for it. I got the retail version for my birthday and used the disks to install it. My Cd drive decided it hated its life and died shortly there after. So when i get the time i will try the microsoft fix since i dont perticularly approve of torrents. I will post the results when i can.

Yes i would rather you tried the Microsoft way as the other way would have unpleasant consequences . CD/DVD drives can be had for 15-25 dollars . I am quite certain that there is something on your system that is keeping W2 from starting . There are other ways to install the game or reinstall one would be taking the discs to another computer and copying them to a flash drive .

Yes ive been think about trying to get it on a flash drive. If i remember correctly there was something on google that said something about CDProjektRed pressing charges against anybody caught illegally downloading thier stuff
