I finished the game the first time at a leisurely pace in about ~70 hours. I took my time and really immersed myself in the side quests. That being said, I did find myself missing the length that the witcher 3 had. I just kept wanting more from the main story and Johnny. I do hope that there will be a lengthy expansion released.

OP this is discussion I had before the release in another thread.

Rawls said:
Except that one of the largest pieces of negative feedback CDPR got from TW3 is that the main quest was too long. Lots of people didn't even finish it. Also they said it would be shorter than TW3 more than a year ago. This is not new information.

Both of the articles referenced there are from 2019.

Based on whos perspective ? If you play 8 hours a day ? if you play 1 hour a day?

If a game is 60 hours long and you play 8 hours a day the game will take you 7.5 days to complete.

If a game is 60 hours long and you play 1 hours a day the game will take you 60 days to complete.

If someone who only plays a game 1 hour a day does not want to commit 2 months to complete a game that is not the fault of the devs or the game.

Since there is no timeline on a game technically speaking on "completing" w3 any complaints on it being "too long" are probably from people who com from #2.

I found what you were talking about .

"CD Projekt, a ‘tremendous’ number of players never completed it. In a recent interview, senior quest designer Patrick Mills reveals that CD Projekt Red ‘got a lot of complaints’ about the length of The Witcher 3, lending to the decision to make Cyberpunk 2077 ‘slightly shorter’"

I'm interested to hear your opinion and why you believe that. Who is to "blame for not finishing a game because of "length" with an infinite amount of time to complete? ?

1. the devs
2. the player

Really this type of game should be made with as much story based content ( Story > combat ) as budget and time will allow with absolutely no regard to "length" again since it does not mater. the game is not going anywhere. It may take some 1 month to finish it may take another 6 months to finish and it may even take someone 1 year to finish or more.

In my mind a game that tries to shorten a game that already has no time limit to make the 6moth or 1 year shorter because they simply don't want to put in the time necessary just plain wrong .

Really after researching this I stand behind my statement Due to the above quote and there reasoning for it MY "personal feedback" Cyberpunk 2077 has a HUGE BLACKMARK on it furthermore I am very disappointed that the game was shortened because people "just didn't want to commit the time" and for not any other reason.

I think the pacing of the story clearly shows that it was meant to be a lot longer. And the endings don't even feel like proper endings. More like a twist just before the last act.

And quite frankly, the story suffers for it.

They did everything correctly. W3's main story was long, sure. This time, you can speedrun the main missions in under 10 hours. But if you want, you can play dozens more without running out of things to do.
I don't see the issue. The player chooses how long their game is. That's it.

Length is definitely not a big issue in this game.

My issue is that I want to experience more of the characters who are relevant to the main story. side missions are nice and all, but they are irrelevant to the story. In a way irrelevant to V's fate. Obviously I'm not talking about the love interest side stories.

170 here :sneaky:

But if a few hundred hours are 'differential' to qualify something ... it was more than 70 thousand hours waiting for the game. A couple of thousand hours would not be such a bad deal, if the logic is to talk about 'hours'.

Iskras wins :p

I didn't really start to geek out until quarantine and I could sit and read through everything. So for me, it was only a wait of 525,600 minutes.

Put in about 100 hours on my first play through, did all side quests (but still missed things). Played as a street kid/contagion hacker, could wipe entire rooms without being seen. Now I a playing as a corpo stealth ninja. Your life path and choices really make the game an entirely different thing. I am looking forward to my third play thorough. Lets face it if you equip Cyberdecks or not completely changes the play and I am down for it.

I'm pretty disappointed in the length of the main story as well.

The game is not that long even if you consider the side missions. I think it took me around 40 hours to get to the point where I didn't have any moderate or harder missions left on the map. There was some content left, but it was kind of pointless to fight against enemies that go down in one hit and do almost nothing to you. (hardest difficulty)

The main quest is way too short. When you think your only doing 1 mission, you are in fact doing 7 in one story line quest that can feel boring and repetitive and you just want it over with. Automatic love and Ghost town too long and boring.

EA Baldur's Gate 3 in Act 1 got around 20 hours when not more which changes for every class and another for your race as a rp. It surely depends on the complexity and this comparison isn't fair but as background don't matter in CP2077 the replay value is maybe 2 plays one on Stealth and hacking and one gunslinger style and for that it was it in my opinion. And as there is no bad guy or good guy play just V the vase for silverhand. The second play would be for me is only possible with my girl whipping me to play it a second time.

Honestly, I think there's just a lot of cut content.
We don't get a lot with Jackie, even though you're supposed to be best buds and you even lived in his house.
T-Bug is wasted and although love interest side missions are good, there's really only Rouge, Johnny, Panam & Judy that tie into the main plot in any real way. Could have been a lot more there.

later in the game when V is told a figure of 6 MONTHS for their time to live. Why are people acting like there is a time pressure in the game when there never was. Did you people see a timer show up that i missed?

Anyway, return to piling on, now the game is too short if you skip all your side activities to flesh out your run and that is CDPR fault.

CDPR specifically said they stopped making side quests mandatory in hopes to get more people to finish the mainstory and all that led to was people skipping side content and complaining that the mainstory is to short, because they refused to do the side stuff.

Youre entire post seem schizophrenic, asking for a fresh gaming experience and then complaining about the fresh gaming experience and then harkening back to witcher 3 every other sentence. The game is too short, but too long to replay to see alternative decision paths. Game should be shorter because there should be a sense of urgency, side quests are wild tangents!

Game has 25-30 hour main story, which goes up to 100hours of play time if you skip all the gigs and do the side missions and meant to be played multiple times for multiple builds and story decisions, and people cant decide if that is too long or too short, all they know for sure is, they hate CDPr.

Anyway, ill let you get back to dumping on the game. You can pick it back up from, CDPR is lazy.

I'm making references to Witcher3 solely because CDPR clearly copied a lot of the mechanical design of that game into Cyberpunk2077. If you have played both games, you know what I'm talking about. You are talking about a "fresh gaming experience"? My point is that the experience is by far not fresh enough to do justice to what could have been a great story-shooter.

Also, I never once complained that the game is too short. My complaint is that the way the side content is set up feels wrong. It looks to me as if the basic story was designed first, then padded out with stuff that doesn't really matter to increase the playthrough time and stop the big city from feeling empty. That - at least to me - doesn't feel good.

You are of course free to have a different opinion, I just wanted to share mine.

Wonder how long most "RPG's" main story would be if you just played that.

I'm only 30% done with the main story and have 35 hours of playtime. RPGs shouldn't be rushed through.

ye, lol.. don't zoom through the main quest.. it might very well be 20 hrs? So? I am level 16 still or something, 60 hrs in, and am just in dunno, maybe middle of main? I obviously don't know how far I'm in but I am not rushing them. tons of side stuff to flesh out and have some fun , exploring and building.. not to mention, one headshot with the common gun which is too op :p

Ye, I enjoy the open ended choices of how to do missions, they picked this up from skyrim, or so, and definetly like to be able to choose my own path and time on when to progress story line (nice character immersive stuff) and just the pew pew , grind/farm D:

I have gotten over 60 hours of playtime in by doing all the side quests. But I agree, I was expecting a lot more out of the main story line.
