89.7 Growl FM: Your (Underground) Road to Fame - Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Music Contest

Hey folks, I submitted yesterday and received no email confirmation that the submission was successful? Is this normal?

I did -1 db true peak and -11 LUFS, Bitwig and mastering plugins didn't report anything unusual. Although one person who listened complained about a stereo clap being almost ear piercing. Bit annoying, since I already submitted. It's only a problem on tinny earbuds, or if you really turn up your headphones (my beyerdynamic 990s are treble heavy and only made it pronounced at a very high volume once I was looking for it).

Edit: GrowlFM replied to my email - they did indeed receive my submission. Hurrah! So for anyone wondering, you may not receive a confirmation email. When I submitted, it took a few moments for the site to respond. I got a captcha, then a thank-you for your submission page. If you got that too, then chances are it worked. Good luck folks!
Thank you for the update, I submitted mine like 2 weeks ago but didn't get any email, just a message on the site its self saying "thank Choom" so I was worried, but hearing that you had the same but they did receive it puts my mind at ease a bit haha.
Good luck with your submission!! :)

Yep I got exactly that message too, good luck :)

That's a lot ! Good luck to selecting "only" few ones :giggle:
reminds old time when on a team for a free french wbstie about MAO we make this kind of contest , free song contest , take many hours to review each track , each time we get mostly 200/300 track and pick the best 10 .. a lot of hour just to listen music xD

7800 track , that's a bit crazy ..Oo

imagine dead line was december , they'll get 20k track ...
260h of music , may be they may delay the result for winners .

even without this challenge , its seems community player pretty active on fan creators contents : vids , artwork , photo ...

if you track get some good dynamic range , now days some tools editors can rectify loudness ;)
as i said 23 db lufs not a requirement , the final goal loud or not , get the track feel good

GL all ^^
A bit late but to add to this, CD probably has their own audio team that will have to mix all the radio host vocals and tracks together into a cohesive station. I'm sure during this process they loudness match all tracks the same way spotify and other streaming services do.

It's usually a simple adjustment done by measuring the integrated loudness (average loudness over an entire track) and turning up or down the gain to hit the desired level. For example if you want all tracks to have an integrated loudness of -14 LUFS but one track is mastered at -7 LUFS you can turn it down -7 dB and it will be at the desired level. Easy!

Since almost every streaming service uses loudness normalization you are free to use mastering as a tool to enhance the music, not just to hit a specific number. Some genres like EDM or metal will probably sound better squashed with no dynamics (loud), cinematic or folk music will probably sound better with more dynamics, but in the end it's up to you!

Long story short nobody should stress about the loudness of the track they submitted :)

I can't believe that I lost the chance to send my track for an hour! Crap! :/
My mastering process has just finished, but when I've entered the page to send the track, the contest deadline had ended.
Crap, can't I deliver the track still?

The competition closed at 4pm CET.

Hope so. Nowadays people in the industry are so petty with this. These kinds of people look more at graphs and numbers instead of focusing on their ears and feeling the music and hearing if it sounds good.

I was really worried the time difference was going to throw me off, so I made sure to get mine in on the 29th (Eastern Time) so not to cut it too close

I sent my track, but man, with 7800 (!) entries chances of being selected are null. That's between 260 and 390 hours of music. I've seen some tracks being posted that are longer than the requested maximum of three minutes. And a lot of it seems to be either brutal chugga chugga death core or loud EDM. CDPR will need a lot of energy drinks to go through all of it.

Honestly it is a lot of competition... but that number is lower than I would have guessed, between the sales numbers of the game, and people who may not have even bought it but entered the contest I thought it might be more. Still A lot for CDPR to go through.

I thought it was going to be a lot lower. Number of people that bought it/fans of CDPR - sure, but number of those that are musicians.. Granted I've seen a fair amount that say "first thing I've ever made". There's a part of me that thinks it might be a little slanted toward tracks with vocals, but that might be wishful thinking. But I submitted mine a month ago - rather than stress about it up until the deadline. I just didn't want to worry. Click send, forget about it.. not sure if that worked seeing as how I'm still checking this forum every day.. >.< ..just to see the conversation..

Yep, though when I watched the promo video dubstep/dance/ebm/industrial/metal were the last thing on my mind. It'd be nice if there were more submissions in different genres where the objective isn't to smash the mid-range frequencies to pieces and crush the rest into the bass / high-mid at 0db =) Like wouldn't it be cool if someone submitted a piece with a brass section?

(not mine - just happened to listen to it this morning.. I don't know that it really fits with the game, but I think it's kinda cool. :D) - EDIT: HAH! I just noticed the youtube channel name. :)
