Other people's references to "lower than low" settings still looking quite decent..I have to agree with. After playing on the desktop all week I find myself leaving home/back on the laptop (i7 3635QM+Radeon 8770M 12GB + 1GB). Mid 20s frame rates (in the teens quite often) just isn't that great of an experience after after a week of spoiling on the HTPC rig. Lowered the triangle budgets, particles, grass density, scaled back shadows severely. Yes objects at medium/far distances come and go, complex tree shadows fade in and out sometimes. Noticeable (though rare) odd looking terrain drawing at the water's edge (mainly in Novigrad for some reason). The game engine seems quite suited to scaling back as it seems to properly favor resource allocation to close in "stuff". It's still the Witcher3. Gameplay is more responsive when the GPU load isn't pegged, so I locked it to 30hz and FPS pretty much sits there. Awesome. My comment is: Top shelf graphics enhance a good game, but a excellent game isn't necessarily any less enjoyable with more modest rendering. With the tweaks I applied it looks like Fallout3 (with HD textures). Mind you Fallout 3 was and is still an excellent game. Scaled back rendering for lesser (but still capable) hardware doesn't make the Witcher3 any less engaging either. On a 15" screen what I see looks quite adequate, the trick seems to be balancing resources to keep objects/characters reasonably detailed. When it comes to gaming laptops hardware costs a bundle but only keeps pace with new titles for a year (as opposed to desktop hardware that good for 2-3). When playing on the laptop I don't expect it to look as good as the desktop rig. This is a note to developers in general (not just CDPR): If the game actually is worth playing you can make graphics scalable to something between PS3-PS4 quality, it still looks reasonably convincing. As time goes by the masses aren't going to be content using landlocked desktop or console hardware, I'm there already. Portable hardware will never be able to match what can be done on a landlocked machine but ultimately is the future of gaming. Scalability is the key and those that refuse to allocate significant R&D to this area, at some point, gamers are largely going to forget about you. If the next gen consoles (after PS4/XBO) are still designed as landlocked + broadband they're likely to be doomed. The performance level of the 14 month old "capable" $2k laptop I have now will equate to the average APU machine for $400 in a couple more years, if not sooner. Developers would be foolish to ignore them in leau of pressing CGI or bust... Devs should be thinking about game engines that internally test/track GPU resources (bandwidth, fill rates, draw capabilities etc) and tweak stuff on the fly (like what can be fiddled with in user.setttings). Settings would be replace by preferences: "target framerate", "Detailed environment -vs- Smooth lines", etc. On a top end rig these settings would have little/no effect, as the engine would sense the resources aren't tapped and just stay pegged at "ultra". Food for thought.

Maybe, but since you do not need this line at all, putting all of what little clothing physX there is on the cpu might help gamers with below par GPU. personally on a 980 i don't see any effect either (1-2 fps barely registers).

i have a modest 760 :D
playing more than ultra except for foliage and grass distance..30-35 fps

Hey guys, I've got good news! :D

Crosire just updated his ReShade injector to version 0.18.6, meaning that the "ScrLk" on/off toggle works properly in-game once again and the gamma issues that plagued version 0.18.5 are now gone! I have already updated the download link in the OP, but here it is again if you want to grab it while it's hot: http://www.mediafire.com/download/5lw6hb85p9038as/ReShade+0.18.6+Public+Beta+with+SweetFX+2.0+Beta+8.7z.

Unfortunately, it would seem that either the recent GOG Galaxy update, or this week's free DLC packs (i.e. the Nilfgaardian Armor and Elite Crossbow sets) introduced new .dll files to the x64 folder, rendering both SweetFX and RTSS inoperable! To circumvent this issue, simply move the new d3d11.dll file from your x64 folder to another location (e.g. the bin folder). This should restore SweetFX back to working condition! :p

Weird. Yesterday I manually installed DLC #5 & 6 and hadn't had a single issue with SweetFX.

This is the thing, the game DID work for me when starting it the first time after installing the new DLC packs earlier this evening. However, upon exiting the game and trying to start it again a few hours later, both SweetFX and RTSS mysteriously wouldn't work anymore. The game would start up fine, sure, but SweetFX and RTSS would have no effect on it!

I tried renaming reshade64.dll to d3d9.dll, but that curiously did not fix the problem for me. Instead, whenever I tried to fix it that way, the game would simply refuse to start at all (i.e. it would crash to desktop as soon as I started it). Maybe it's because I'm starting the game from GOG Galaxy and not its own shortcut? :-

Might be. Man I gotta say all this tinkering before actually playing the game does detract from it a bit as I usually tinker with the settings for 10-15 minutes first and only then start playing.

With Galaxy folks can check their overall play time, achievements and all that kind of stuff. Too much hassle for me to start it in any other way than via a desktop shortcut but I'd love if they had an option to show overall playtime in the game itself (in the main menu would be just fine for me).

So you simply renamed the dxgi.dll in your x64 folder to d3d9.dll and it worked perfectly, same as before today's Galaxy/DLC patch, without having to reinstall ReShade/SweetFX? If so, I'll need to keep at it, since I don't like moving .dll files around. :(

Ugh, I know exactly what you mean. My game time is currently 30% of what it was a few years ago and it does frustrate me quite a bit when I lose precious time on tinkering that doesn't work (like these new overlay issues I'm having)! :-

what i did was:MANUALLY MOVING THE FILES, DON'T USE THE INSTALLER!
first deleted the old reshade
kept the preset file
downloaded latest sweetfx version of reshade
as you will notice in this new version there is a reshade32.dll and reshade64.dll
i extracted all the content of the zip file(put also reshade32.dll),but i renamed reshade64.dll in d3d11.dll,not d3d9.dll(this game is not d3d9 at all)
Then i've overvritten the default sweetfx.txt with my preset i kept before

I know this is slightly off-topic but if someone could make this preset (https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/3699/) work with SweetFX 2.0 that'd be awesome. This is a Neutral Color Palette preset which basically removes that orange tint that retail version has while keeping color vabrancy.

This is one of the better presets I've seen for subtly fixing the color the palette. Thanks for posting.

You might be able to but the SweetFX configuration file has undergone a number of changes since 1.5.1, and just copying an old file across may not get the desired result (you may also get compiler warnings from settings that are absent). This is why I said 'manually' copy across -- just open the SweetFX 2.0 file that comes with Reshade, open the settings file of the profile you want to use, and set the same settings in the SweetFX 2.0 file by hand (remembering to scroll down and transfer across shader values, not just enabling a shader at the top!). Only takes a minute.

So basically overwrite SweetFX_settings.txt with the one from this preset?

If you installed reshade+sweetfx 2.0 latest version correctly, just overwrite Sweetfx_settings.txt(the one in sweetfx folder),renaming your preset to that

Do you have latest SweetFX version (2.0 Preview 8 with Crosire's ReShade injector 0.18.6)? I'm going to try it out today, so far I had the one with Crosire's ReShade injector 0.18.4 and it worked without a hitch. So I wonder if I'll experience the same issues @Verrenus has.

Have you guys found some kind of tweak for big cities like Novigrad ?
I play the game with 40+ fps with a bit of stuttering but when I enter Novigrad it becomes really messy, even though I keep 30+ fps (looks like 15 to me...)
