A feature film based on fans' artwork.

I wonder if anyone at the CDPR has ever considered the possibility of creating a feature-length film based on the Cyberpunk game, using the creativity of the game's fans and the CDPR's secret agents around the globe? :)
I am referring primarily to the use of videos generated by AI resources, and it's not just ChatGPT, as there are quite a few different ones now.
After all, what is any modern “blockbuster” movie? It is a collection of video clips or scenes, united by the author's idea, glued together and censored to a certain extent.
In any case, generating video clips is easier than making mods. Technically gifted modders and game fans can do both.
First, you can announce a small non-commercial contest, aiming at a short movie as the result. Give users tasks and let them generate videos on the theme of “Reed shoots V in a dramatic situation” or “V pompously kills Adam Smasher,” etc.
Then, if the idea works, you can move on to a full-length film, lasting an hour and a half — and this time it cuold be a commercial project, where CDPR can pay the most prolific authors who generate good content.
Take, for example, filming the musical “Corporate Wars.” Or something else. :)

Probably.

Given they're funding a second season of their anime, Edgerunners.

Ugh... No thanks.

AI slop is going to be AI slop no matter which slop factory you use.

Every AI generated "Product" has been torn apart by everyone. For good reason. It is cheap and terrible.

I think you're vastly underestimating the influence of a director.

The difference between a good director, who'll be overseeing every aspect of filming (Down the every minute detail. Everything that is in a scene is in it for a reason) and a bad director who just throws together a bunch of crap is massive.

Yes, even big "Blockbuster" titles still flop frequently when directors and writers don't perform. The big hits are the ones that are done well.

Though any good film will need to be more than just a few clips stitched together. There needs to be an overall design around the entire movie.

There's a ton of work that goes into pacing and delivery of the story of any movie. If not done right the outcome is an unwatchable mess.

Which is why directors exist and become so notable when they produce good movies. You NEED that singular vision overseeing the film, with the experience and knowledge to understand how to craft a coherent and compelling narrative (There's a reason why films always cut down to the 1.5-2h duration even if they've actually filmed 5+ hours worth of scenes. Keeping people engaged thoughout the entire duration is vital)

As mentioned, CDPR are funding a studio to produce the Edgerunners anime. More than likely if they were going to fund a feature length film, they'd outsource to a company that actually makes films.

Keep in mind, CDPR doesn't own the Cyberpunk IP. So they cannot do whatever they want with it, the actual IP holder will be the one making decisions about what media to produce with it and who gets to produce it.

I apologize, I can't stand this manga. Thought to avoid mentioning it. My bad.

Suit yourself.

Still. I don't see any reason to reject the idea of some fanat contest per se, excluding objections about the quality of AI-generated videos, of course.
Perhaps it is not necessary to aim for a full-length film right away? Thirty minutes maximum? Twanty?
Reducing the volume of the final film will allow to reduce the length of the clips that make it up.
And the shorter and smaller one author's particular clip is, the more contestant can focus on the quality of the product.
After all, I think one could give the children the opportunity to shoot some videos, upload them somewhere and maybe (just maybe!) something good will come out of them?

One might need a good “virtual film director” and motivator in one person, someone who knows how to work with an audience (perhaps charismatic) and who can explain to users exactly what is required of them. Furthermore, no one is saying that the videos will be processed immediately. Suitable and unsuitable videos will be identified. Authors of higher-quality content can be “spoken to separately” and asked to rework/improve their product... in accordance with the new, more detailed instructions.

The bonuses might be:
1. User involvement in the process of “participating in game creation.”
2. High motivation of the personal (we're talking about fans who forgave CDPR for their Cyberpunk with its billion bugs and loyally and patiently waited for Phantom Liberty, shedding tears)
3. Free unpaid labor.
4. The option to entertain users during the long wait for the next masterpiece (à la “Project Orion”) and during the inevitable lengthy period of fixing bugs found in the new masterpiece.

On the other hand, of course, if there is a fundamental rejection of AI video production, and/or such an initiative could interfere with the activities of the aforementioned studio, then naturally there is nothing to discuss more. (y)

A fan made video contest wouldn't be too out of the question.

However, it's unlikely that it would be for the purpose of stitching together a bunch of random clips from different people to make a singular movie.

Most likely it would be about having fans create 10-30 minute long videos that tell self contained stories. (With maybe some people going all out and putting together a team to create some incredible 60 minute videos)

That way the videos are coherent in their quality, design and of course characters.

Of course, the question is how likely is something like this to occur? Since, while they do frequently do image contests, those are done using the in-game photo mode (Sometimes people will also do a bit of editing using third party programs). While making videos would be entirely done via third party programs so would be less popular due to lack of access.
