A good Cyberpunk game. When?

+
How long will it take to have a GOOD Cyberpunk themed open world branching paths RPG game?

I'm talking real Cyberpunk, 80s Anime style kind of setting, combustion engine cars, zero science fiction stuff but 100% true Cyberpunk (think Akira, Ghost In The Shell, Bubblegum Crisis). Cyberpunk 2020 / RED is really just all of that I described in it's origins, a great scenario and RPG ruleset and deserved better, a shame now the IP is CDPR restricted.

I want something with the open world IA and polish of GTA V, gameplay of modern Deus Ex games but harder and better, interaction, side activities and immersion of Yakuza / Shenmue, quality of writing, main characters and side quests from Witcher 3, and a good RPG ruleset with hardcore RPG mechanics and custom character development and skill specialization all with a Cyberpunk theme, attitude and overall disregard for censorship and political correctness but at the same time embracing differences and sexual freedom as commonplace.

Drugs, alcohol, sex and nudity overload, ultra violence, existentialism crisis, mechanical implants, artificial intelligence, 80s future technology mixed with current and old technology... all this together is what makes Cyberpunk, Cyberpunk. Game directors should keep it mind, and maybe watch 80s Cyberpunk anime to absorb the whole true vibe regularly while making such a game.

I believe this game can and should be done. There are already examples of similar games in other settings already... but now that CDPR dropped the ball I doubt anyone else will try making such a dream game.

So, that's the discussion: how long (more) you guys think it'll take for us the get such a game delivered by any developer?

Didnt you give an attention to the game? It has almost everything with Cyberpunk-theme. It fullfilled the core, but what you want to say, it's about RPG-elements. RPG and Cyberpunk-theme are apples and pairs.

This game isn't RPG as originally planned. CDRP called it action-adventure.
Yea... now they did, when they realized they couldn't pull of what they set out to do.

I already have what I want in Cyberpunk 2077 and I say that as someone who watched everything you have listed above. GTA is not an immersive game, I've played every game and I can't recall particular details about places or anything of relevance. It's a sandbox and like it's name sake most everything is forgettable. Deus Ex is a linear game and while it's futuristic it's not cyberpunk. From what you've mentioned I trust you know there's a difference. Akira, GITS, Bubblegum crisis while they have similar themes are very different. Bubblegum Crysis for example is mech first and cyberpunk second and that's the problem with your entire argument. Same thing with Yakuza and Shenmue, these have very linear storytelling...basically you don't appear to know what you are asking for or at the least you seem unclear about how gaming development works.

"Drugs, alcohol, sex and nudity overload, ultra violence, existentialism crisis, mechanical implants, artificial intelligence, 80s future technology mixed with current and old technology... all this together is what makes Cyberpunk, Cyberpunk. All of that is already in the game and the devs are familiar with the media that you mentioned, that's why Kaneda's bike from Akira (or the closest they could replicate it without getting into copyright issues) is in the game. That said, you basically want a sex simulator in your comment here which is not the focus of this game. The devs have employees to pay and that game would be banned in several countries. The theme is in and around night city but you aren't going to get those as activities and no game developer will tank their reputation or sales by doing it. Where is all that extravagant drugs, sex and nudity in GTA considering that it has marketed itself as the go to game for that? Now ask your self why Rockstar has been so moderate with it. Because they have a business to keep operational.

Just going to say: you got it all wrong. I do not want a sex simulator, that's just your interpretation, and again: it's wrong. Witcher 3 had more nudity, better tasted sexual content while still being less conservative and having less censorship, just as an example. But that is just one very small part of it. There is so, so, much more. So much that were confirmed, advertised and never made into the game... no wonder 90% of the foruns here / on reddit / on steam for this game are requests and complaints for and about features that are missing from the final game. I want a better roleplaying experience and a more brutal game. If you're happy, great. You go enjoy your game. To me as it is it's very pretty and the main story is good, but it's nothing more than a very good cash grab looter shooter that seems to have a clear focus on future multiplayer. You go play the game and be happy, if you don't agree just move along and leave discussions like these to people whom actually want a true roleplaying experience at least in the level of what older games did but Cyberpunk 2077 just for us as of right now cannot.

It's possible that CDPR can still turn this into a great cyberpunk game and I hope that's the case because I don't think I'm up for continuing my gaming hobby if this fall through.

Pretty sure Skyrim is an RPG and I don't recall having as many options to upgrade my characters. So what exactly do you classify an RPG? Witcher 3 is an RPG and has almost the exact same levelling system without the customization in fact. This overblown "I want the game how I want" or somehow know how to develop a game were the same vocal few who just months ago were sending death threats to the devs. Hopefully no one gives them any attention and the devs focus on the things that they really need to by polishing what, in my mind, is a great game so far.

4 years, i don't want to be the annoying guy but they started to really work in CP2077 only when The Witcher 3 was finished.
8 years of full development, including conception, ideas, all, not just raw production / programing.

That's the feeling many players here and around every forum that discusses this game have, very unfortunetly.

WItcher 3 was a different story with an already established character known to be flirty and sleep around, you're basically complaining the devs wanted to tell a story the way they wanted to tell it. Geralt is not V. Would it have been good if they added more sex... sure but sex doesn't make a game unless it's a sex simulation which this is not. If you think reddit is a good source to point to then you must be new to this forum, reddit is filled with a bunch of children that complain about everything. Anyhow back on topic.....what is the so much more that you were promised that wasn't there? You mentioned the cyberpunk theme, which is very much present in the game. The more sex thing seems to be a personal preference for you so we'll leave it at that. What else is there

I was waiting for this game way before it was announced, when it was announced I had already decided to give up gaming but the teaser trailer looked like everything I had dreamed of since I was a kid so I stayed in, spent thousands on the hobby over the 8 years of development waiting for it and it came down like an anvil from in orbit. I don't know why more developers don't make cyberpunk games considering how popular the genre is and all the possibilities to create an amazing game. Now with the way things have gone CP2077...I'm worried other developers will be even less willing to make a cyberpunk game.

The time and money put into the hobby vs the payout is just not even close to being worth it and most companies seem to be interested in advertising one thing, creating another. There are so many adult gamers now but for some reason even games rated mature are treated like they're made for 13 year old kids. I DO NOT expect a porn game at all and when I say mature I don't mean exclusively sex but rather something that is designed for adults not teenagers. CP2077 is failing hard in that regard outside of the main story but maybe they will turn it around.

The day I saw that teaser trailer in 2012-2013 I thought "omg...it's finally happening" because it seemed like the perfect storm. My favorite genres cyberpunk and RPG and a developer I had grown to love. Result was heartbreaking. Still hanging on to some kind of hope though.

Right?

Cyberpunk was an abandoned genere for PC games for many years, and people wanted something BIG and amazing now that it was finally coming back.

I'll give the example of the feudal mitological Japan genere and PC gaming, which is kind of in the same state: for many years people wanted good, complex and deep games featuring feudal Japan and now we have great titles like Shogun Total War, Nioh 1 and 2, Sekiro... all on PC. It's kind of the same thing with Cyberpunk except we still are missing the many current generation good games.

I appreciate your politeness and education.

Many posts about thar already, check "what would fix the game for you" or the one about humanity costs or the huge one about missing features if you are interested.

I made this one more to hear about other possibilities, future possible studios making engrossing, complex, deep, cyberpunk games or the possibility of CDPR expanding the CP2020/RED universe via DLCs or other games.

Probably never, given that real RPG video games seem to be on the decline. It seems like what most people want is choose-your-own-adventure, not actual role-play.

When I think RPG, I think complex ruleset systems, long 100h+ main story lines... Ballers Gate 1 and 2 and expansions, Neverwinter Nights 1 and expansions, Planescape Torment, Witcher 1, Gothic 1, Final Fantasy 8, 9 and Tactics, Pillars Of Eternity 1 and 2, Elder Scrolls Morrowind and Oblivion, Tactics Ogre, Vampire Bloodlines, Witcher 1 Enhanced, Knights of The Old Republic, Persona 4 and 5, Dragon Age Origins... these games come to mind, some more linear, some with many branching paths... but all with many complex and deep characters, LONG competing and detailed stories, tons of world building lore... they were a JOURNEY, a long odyssey, full of struggles and took hundreds of hours to finish. That's what comes to mind when I think "good RPG".

Now when people say "open world" my favorite ones are "open hubs" like Shemnue and Yakuza series, full of side quests and activities, mini games, a small ~ medium sized world but full of immersion and interaction. Those are the best open worlds to me.

When I think what Cyberpunk 2077 was supposed to be: a mix of Deus Ex Human Revolution / Metal Gear 4 "tactical action" gameplay mixed with a classic very long compelling deep RPG narrative and characters and within a medium but fully interactive open world (like, say, Yakuza), and maybe some hints of GTA V here and there because drivable cars and city. To me that's what was advertised all along.
