A New Saga Begins

Should be interesting. No way unreal engine would have worked out for cyberpunk or witcher, at least not with the same quality of visuals. Lets see if UE5 lives up to the hype. Seems it could, but I suspect a next gen RedEngine would do even better. Probably a money move.

If you think that Ciri is a spoiled kid, you probably never read the books, where she may be considered the main character, not Geralt.
You may have missed the point where I said that I have read all books? I just don´t like that character. Not in the books, not in the game (and characters can be quite different, see e.g. Triss). Has nothing to do with "not read the books" or "not understanding XY", just my personal taste. Funny how people isntantly start with that silly "you never read blabla"-stuff as soon as I say I dont´like that girl and that, for me, she is a spoiled brat in the game. Some people like person XY, others hate the same person, accept it. I can (and do) really dislike the character Ciri despite reading all books.
Anyway, the point is, that she is, in my opinion, not a good protagonist for a witcher game. She is not a witcher, she has superhuman abilities, she can travel through time and space, visit other worlds, and so on - that simply does not work with a "medieval fantasy" witcher games,

"We are not planning on making the game exclusive to one storefront."

Strangely how they are playing with words, and being careful and so vague... "one storefront", they might release it on GOG and Epic, leaving Steam out because Epic tantrum.
Ubisoft has a similar deal with Epic, that is not exclusive to one storefront too, but leaves Steam out.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong on this one.

Really hyped about a new Witcher game. Though a bit curious regarding the business decision of abandoning the REDengine for Unreal 5. From what i have seen REDengine was already pretty good. Anyway as long as it's not exclusive to epic store i am good. Not that i hate epic store but most of my library stays on steam and a game like witcher, I would like to keep on steam.

Wish you to have a great time developing the game and have a great success at the end.

Let me repost my old post with some ideas that had 2nd anniversary yesterday :)

Hi CD Project!

I've been playing your Witcher series games since the very beginning, enjoyed it a lot (enjoyed the next one more than the previous) and now the time when I can't hold my valuable opinion anymore is came.

On some interview it was mentioned that you might not want to use the same Witcher 3 engine to tell a new similar story. As a fan I say that I would like to see the next game or story on Witcher 3 engine and I'm pretty sure that I will like it a lot and I'm also sure that there are huge numbers of fans who think likewise.

Nevertheless, I also would like to share some ideas that come to my mind (although I can't guarantee that you haven't consider them already):

- "Ofir adventures" - an adventure of the witcher in the lands of Ofir and Zerrikania, new plot, new schemes, new enemies, new challenges, new weapon (there are not much curved steel swords in game and no curved silver, like the moonblade in Witcher 1). Together with a totally new area it is still possible to introduce few old characters ...

- "Higher vampires" - Wine and Blood have shown that a single Higher vampire is the threat for a city, maybe even for a small country and even a powerful mage might not been able to destroy one. Is it wise to live in illusion that higher vampire terror will never happen again and there will always be a strong wither or mage to stop him and another friendly vampire to destroy? And to hope that you would never meet the vampire Elder...

It could be the story that start with some old vampire returning from the grave and starting to hunt again. The Main Character may discover that this vampire was already slayed few times (maybe Vesemir did it once too in his early days) but become stronger and stronger with the time. And it is time for witchers, mages, alchemists to create an ultimate weapon against vampires that can really stop them. Dimeritium swords and armor, burn-to-ashes oils, be-stronger-and-faster-than-vampire-elder elixirs - you name it.

- "Another witcher" - Geralt is the most famous witcher, but not the only one. Eskel or Lambert can have their own adventures and own friends (Lambert might be accompanied by Keyra Metz). All witchers have different personality, so even quests that would have an obvious outcome for Geralt could be totally different.

- "Not a witcher at all" - the Witcher 3 has a lots of sword-fighting and other fighting, but the game does not comprise only that. You have a non-linear dialogues and quests, investigations, exploring etc. It is a good tool to make a detective or an adventure, for example Shani trying to cure an important patient, trying to find a source of an illness while establishing and managing the medical school somewhere in Toissant. Or your majordomo, Barnabas-Basil Foulty, managing Corvo Blanco while one of Geralt's friends is staying there during Geralt absence.

Someone might say that it will be turning franchise into a money-pump and selling the same game one more time, but I would say that we, fans, haven't had enough of Witcher 3 yet.

Personally I hope the new game is "make your own character" kind, at least not less than on the level of Cyberpunk 2077.

Also, it would be nice if events take place after TW3, not in some prequel times. Someone is trying to restore the Witcher schools may be or some such.

I wonder if the snow suggests the White Frost period? Though supposedly Ciri managed to avert that.

Ah, but did she. . . ?
Assuming certain ending I suppose. At least that's how I understood it.

But you can also argue that if time could be manipulated that way, it can be manipulated in the other direction too. The whole thing is rather confusing so I could agree it's not impossible to make a story that takes place during the White Frost.

Why are they ditching the Red Engine?
Probably because it can't work well with DX12 or Vulcan ...... Pretty much everyone that has tried to make a game engine originally coded for DX11 work with DX12 has failed or had tons of problems .... For instance Ubisoft and AC Valhalla which is way more buggy than CP 2077 especially on PC.

Now they can concentrate on what they do best, telling stories with depth and branching narratives and not have to worry so much about the mechanics of a game engine. Using a game engine to develop a game and developing a game engine are two entirely different skill sets. Just like designing a system around a CPU and designing the CPU itself are two entirely different skill sets

I hope this releases on all PC stores simultaneously or it's a no buy from me, UE5 clearly looks like a clean and beautiful engine but if it means Epic Games Store exclusivity I'll wait until it eventually realeases on Steam.
Not me, I'll get it on GOG so the developers get the full cut and not have a ridiculous 30% taken off the top ..... The only time I buy from Steam is when I can't get it directly from the publisher. For one thing why would you want to add Steam's DRM to a game that doesn't have any to begin with? Or worse have two DRMs running like when you buy a Ubisoft game from Steam. Like it or not Steam is a DRM often times stacked on top of an already existing DRM.

Might leave Steam out because they don't have to give up 30% of their profits for little in return for them .... Like Ubisoft did. It didn't hurt their sales of Valhalla one bit and even if it did it would be no where close to 30% so they'd have come out ahead in the long run anyway

Probably because it can't work well with DX12 or Vulcan ......

It already works with both. More likely reason - it costs a ton to develop an engine. They want to save money.

That was the explicit reason another Polish studio - Flying Wild Hog brought when explaining why they switched to Unreal Engine for Shadow Warrior 3 (I liked their original engine more).

CDPR can do a good thing here and open source their REDengine instead making it being lost to history. id Software did that for their games thanks to John Carmack and it was a great move.

Well, I'll just wait for a Steam release then multi-platform games not developped by Epic Games or studios they own eventually release on Steam. Who knows by the time it releases there the launch version bugs would have been fixed. I'm not making the same mistake twice, Cyberpunk2077 was barely enjoyable at launch.

I'm all for giving the developpers their full cut, if I can buy a Steam version from CDPR directly, I'll do it.

The move too Epic kinda suprised me but i think it could be a good move. It will probably require alot less of development since theres already loads of tools for it and it keeps evolving. CDPR could probably even start selling there gamemaking tools trough epic if they wanted too so it could improve games as a whole possibly.

All I want to know is if it has Character Creation. I didn't like any of the previous games because i had to play Geralt.
The RED engine wasn't great for modding in your own character creation. At most the mods let you replace Geralt with the model of another character in the game.
I had no problems with other games; I would just LOVE to do full character creation in this game. I'd love to build from ground up, and not necessarily as a Witcher either! A magic user maybe? Male or female? The Witcher universe is my favourite universe to play, and would love this aspect to be introduced.

I mean that's because the games are literally about Geralt.

I'm excited about this! I can't wait to play a full game as Witcher Ciri! I'm also happy about the switch to Unreal 5.

I echo several comments about taking your time. I want a complete, stable game that lives up to expectations; and also a marketing program that doesn't build expectations that the game can't live up to. I can wait. But still, I'm excited.

Is that a cat head?
Ciri. That's all I have to say about it. No, wait. I have one more comment: Better be Ciri. Oh, and can we have Yennefer back too?

I hope that it's not a "let's go to the past" game like a few people wanted. Let's move forward, please!
Well, since it's going to be Ciri (it is going to be Ciri, right?), moving forward in time shouldn't be a problem.

Noo i dont wanna play as ciri
I know my expectations are big but, I wanted to go back where witchers are common and i always wanted a race choice system like in skyrim
Playing as an elf, sorcerrer, mage or dwarf in witcher universe and of course im saying it again (the time where witchers are common) would be cool. And also the follower system. Imagine another witcher follows you in your journey and fights alongside you.
and also, this new medallion looks like a dog
