A Plea for sanity

First of all, I mean no offense to the the creators over at CDPR, as far as I'm concerned you guys are the best thing to come along in p.c. gaming for quite some time. That being said lets move along to the more critical part of this message.

The issue of patching the game TW2 to a working current EE version (in my case the original retail dvd version) is (as it exists) an involuted cluster***k of a nightmare. This is most evident from many of the posts on the support forum. Really guys, when a customer has to install, uninstall, reinstall 6 or more times and scour the support forum for info about what patches to use with what game versions and what sequence they should be applied in, something has gone tragically wrong.

I purchased TW2 when it was first released in 2011 and have not been able to compete it yet, my above comments are a factor in the reason why. This certainly will be something I will consider when future titles become available.

Please guys, puzzles (in my opinion) belong in the game(s) not the related support pages. I know it can be done - it certainly was not this much of a chore to patch/update TW1. />

Can't you just download the latest complete version from GOG? As an owner of the retail box you were entitled to a free GOG key afaik.

to be fare to the programmers they cannot cater for every variable with regards pc's , with consoles i guess its not acceptable as they are a known quantity with regards hardware/customisation etc but pc's are a different kettle of fish.Ive had Witcher 1 and 2 and ran and patched both with virtually no issues whatsoever. i do have a modest system and dont overclock so i expect the game to be glitch free to some extent so i am happy.
a lot of issues come about with systems overclocked, poorly maintained, lots of mods, other games inc, differeent drivers from previous graphics cards and god knows what else and this cannot all be catered for when producing the game but with customer feedback patches fix most of the issues.
for some, even a system as mine, modest, mod free, well maintained they will still have problems and i sympathise but thats the risk we pc gamers take.
but, theres always consoles for those who cannot tolerate/deal with issues arrising from all of the above.we either live with it and deal with it or get a console.me, i prefer to deal with it but i must say, with the witcher 2 (on my 3rd playthrough) i have been fortunate

You can indeed claim your backup copy from GOG with all patches included

Just note that while GOG usually includes all patches, it can take some time for them to release the updated packages when patches come out. Since the last update was a while ago GOG package already includes it (it lists the 3.4 version).

or you can install the boxed retail version and download the relevant patches in the numbered sequence as laid out in the support section.its a pain in the arse but such is life

Looks like I should heed my own advice. I still haven't claimed my GOG copy. :p

Okay,
Thanks for all your suggestions guys, what I decided on was to get myself a new retail DVD copy of TW2EE but after installing I get the 'The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)error and I'm unsure as to what the next step is: Do I apply the .net Hotfix (the reason I'm unsure is I don't know what version TW2EE retail DVD is patched to; The Witcher.exe found in the bin folder has this ver

Either apply the .NET hotfix first (that is, now) or find and uninstall the conflicting software. See this thread: http://en.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?/topic/30215-hotfix-for-net-4-related-errors-0xc0000005-0xc0000142-etc/ for known conflicts.

The launcher will offer to apply the additional patches when it runs, so you don't need to collect and install those patches by hand.

Thanks Guy N'wah,

Although you did not really answer all my questions you did point me to a solution that (so far) has worked. All I did was downgrade my GeForce driver to 320.49 - no more .net4 error message and game starts.
Thanks again guy er, I mean Guy. />

Yes, the nVidia 326 driver is a known problem at this time. CDPR has been in contact with nVidia about it. The 326.80 beta release notes do not mention the problem or a fix. Maybe there will be a resolution by the time 326 goes WHQL.
