And so mankind discovered the last child of the doomed planet Crapped On, and with his unique powers that child would become known to all and sundry as CARROT MAN! Defender of sprouts, broccoli and the horticultural way!

All we are saying, is give peas a chance. Yes all we are saying, is give peas a chance.

Fun. But if you search elsewhere, there are a ton of similar "discoveries", especially from Russians. And they claim to find children with more special "abilities", like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natasha_Demkina

If only those were for real... And as for mysterious/weird things, take another load from Russia with love! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijrKo7fHI8w

Why could this not be true though?

I mean I understand we have to be skeptical at all times, but I'm just wondering: COULD this story about the Chinese child perhaps be true?

Sorry I phrased my previous question poorly.

I get why we should be skeptical (Chinese media and all), but I was wondering, could this perhaps (from a medical standpoint) be true? Is there a possibility that this is true, or is this 100% certainly fake?

It's possible of course. Other animals have such eyes, so it could be possible that human eyes could evolve into that too at some point. The video didn't convince me though. For example, there was no example of him actually seeing in the dark, just comments that he could. You'd think the first thing they wanted to show was his actual (alleged) unique ability.

What will the Alien Man on the History Channel say about this?? :D

Unlikely, because there is a mundane (and unfortunate) explanation. Leukocoria is the condition in which a human eye appears to have "eyeshine" or gives the impression of having a tapetum lucidum. It's actually a sign of any of several eye diseases that affect the retina, the most common of which is a cancer, retinoblastoma. Kid needs the attention of an ophthalmologist who knows how to keep him from going blind or dying young.

-1 to the moderator for being a buzzkill

I am surprised this is the first time we hear about this, especially if its true, scientists should be all over this kid. Locals think he is special just because he has blue eyes.

Perhaps his parents were living or working in the dark for a long time. That's why he can't see clearly in day time. Or some great great grandfather was from the west.

In terms of the generalization on Chinese media... Ooh really? Yea cause we've got so much better media with Fox News, The Daily Mail and all rednecks who apparently have seen UFOs in a random village in the US which get covered on television to mention only a few.

Until we've concluded evidence on whether this story is actually bollocks or the sort of condition this person is having all other speculations are redundant and there's no need to generalize a entire country for being full of shit.

If you want to discuss the plausibility on an objective level then discuss the likelihood of conditions causing this effect, evolution or just overall if you find the video funny or unlikely but shots directed solely because it was shown/found in a certain country is generalization and is extremely tacky seeing the garbage our media promotes.

Regarding the video itself, it follows the same style as many other media productions with questionable legitimacy in an effort to gain PR/attention but this is true for every country and will probably be revealed as a certain condition over anything else.

I don't believe the story is true, but I agree the generalisation of Chinese media is unfortunate. I don't know enough about Chinese media to have a strong opinion on it, but I know much about what sorry state of affairs we have in Europe and the US, and it's not much to brag about. Some shining examples here and there, like Guardian's work on the leaks from Wikileaks and the NSA, but most of the time the vast majority of it is really poor.

Would be cool if the story was true, but alas, I doubt it.
