A touching moment all but ruined. (Spoiler)

I really prefered the pre-EE "Death-of-Cedric"-cutscene because it didn't have those silly animals. When Cedric said something like "I feel a presence" and Geralt wasn't able to see anything in the forest I got the impression that it was the spirits of the forest or something like that who came to bid him farewell, but in the EE version there's just a bunch of silly animals, and even though you can argue that the spirits might be there as well, I just really prefered the invisible watchers saying farewell to Cedric rather than Bambi and his crew doing it :p

Another thing regarding animals. The quest where Geralt gets hammered with the Blue Stripes and wakes up semi-naked in the mud ... why were there no pigs there? Would have been awesome if he was awakened by a pig about to eat him or taking a dump on him or something like that :D

You should change the topic title to reflect the bigass spoiler sitting in the first sentence. Don't want to ruin it for anyone.

And he's an elf. He loves Bambi.

And moved.

Nice idea about the pig :)

(And I've just played the scene - I see what you mean.)

Have yet to watch the scene (but I played through the game already once), but one could argue that the animals of the forest actually ARE the spirits, at least in the minds eye of an elf. And maybe especially a dyone one. ^^

For the first part, you can make the argument both ways. I thought it was quite fitting and beautiful in its own right. No shame in having sensitive creatures bidding Cedric farewell.

I liked animals in farewell scene. When I played it first time without them I thought that he just have hallucinations etc. and there is no any real "presence".

Please bring back the previous cutscene without the cuddly forest animals watching Cedric die. Why in the world did they do this? It seems not only counter to what the scene was before, but it's so uncharacteristic of the tone they set in the game, and of CDPR's writing in general. I wrote this on BSN, but I think I might as well post here as well:

It's not just Disney-esque, I was convinced I was seeing that event through Geralt's pragmatic and cynical world view. There is nothing there, in his eyes. But he has enough humanity to set that aside and bid a noble man farewell. It was so perfect.

In short, this was one of my favorite moments in the game.

Slim - putting you in with the previous posts about Bambi. I hope you don't mind :)

(And it gets rid of that spoiler thread title. Killing two little fluttery birds with one stone here).

I liked the added animals. Iorveth's followers think Iorveth is the true real deal, but I think that belonged to Cedric. If a true elf perishes in the forest, why shouldn't the creatures one assumes he protects come out to say goodbye?

I just find it a bit odd that those deers are just appearing in this cutscene, but not regularly. Would've been a nice touch...deers being attacked by neckars being attacked by endregas. ^^

It's a nod to a motif that is probably older than print, the "hunter's funeral". I find it very much in place, and understated to a proper degree. More elaborate version:

[Moritz von Schwind, c. 1850 Wie die Tiere den Jäger begraben (How the animals bury the hunter)]

I understand the motives behind the change, and I think if there was a place to show their awesome new animals (of whom CDPRed must be pretty proud I guess) this was it, no doubt...

But I really agree with Slim, that the pre-enhanced version scene was much better. Even if you are not sure of whats really happening in the scene, leaving the interpretation open for the viewer, so he/she can fill in the blanks, is soo much better than rubbing bambis on our noses...

Are you sure? I'd be interested to see a source or link saying this was their intention. Anyway, I can't see anything but Disney about it and I loved the ambiguity in the previous scene. Did Geralt feel spiritual at that moment? Or was he just being reverential? It's up to the viewer.

Just my thinking here but being as the elves are one with nature it seems only fitting that animals would show up when a "protector" is departing as in maybe they can sense it .

It's perfectly fitting, Cedric has long been master of the forest and now the beasts are there to watch silently as he succumbs to the wheel of fate.

I agree with slimgrin here...I wonder if there's a way to replace the scene with the non-EE one. Are cutscene files stored somewhere and replaceable?

Can't really compare with 'pre-EE' version, though I find it to be kinda subtle and sweet, including the animals, since I think they are a part of the forest, as well as the 'spirits'.

Though it is subjective.

Not without the toolkit, AFAIK.
When the toolkit comes out, I'd like to add a couple of endregas.

Add in ghastly Kayran, waving its gooey spectral tentacles around the forest and weeping for the fallen warriors~

Not sure if weather in that scene is set, but I usually saw it during rainy nights. This time it was a bright, sunny afternoon. Took all seriousness out of it, not to mention the animals (that did not exist in the forest until that very moment...)
