Ability Points just wont work

Hey there,

Ive started a new play through and have looked everywhere for a solution and just cannot get this to work for the life of me.
I have 8 ability points and a few mutagens and cannot apply any of them to anything. No im not trying to use my points on the first tier abilities and the mutagens wont go into there slots it makes a noise you would hear in any game when theres an error and it wont work.

Please help im getting deeper into the game with literally nothing in my skill tree.

Since this is a PC version issue: any mods installed, or have you ever used any with that save? Also, are you on GOG/Steam/Origin?

because you need to spend points on first-tier abilities before getting access to higher-tier ones -- except in the General (yellow) skills.

A screenshot might also be helpful.

Yes im using mods but i cant see how any of them are affecting the game itself?

Sorry i meant that the abilities above the 1st tier ones which you cannot put points into.
Ill attach a screenshot but i dont know how much help it will be.

Mods can mess with the game in unexpected ways. Try removing the mods and see if it fixes it, although if the problem is caused by mods it may be "baked into" the save even if you completely reinstall the entire game.

You have to remember that TW3 was coded without modding in mind, unlike some other games which due to their program structure lend themselves more readily to modding. Case in point, Fallout 3, 4 and Skyrim by Bethesda.

Moving this to the modding section, as it's most likely a mod-related issue. Can you post your complete mod list?

Also, have you carefully read the descriptions of the mods you have installed? Some mods are not compatible with others, or will require a specific load order to work correctly. Careful with stuff like that, because once you save your game with mods running, it will affect the save-state permanently. Not uncommon to bork things in such a way that the only fix is to reload to a point before the mod conflict happened.

Very often, the trouble arises when someone uninstalls a mod they had been using. Adding additional mods is not normally an issue (barring the conflicts I mention above), but deactivating or removing mods (especially if there are special, uninstallation steps) can damage a save-state beyond repair.
