no, you need a save game file that you completed the main story with, not at any timeyou that you can start ng+ at any time and it doesnt matter what you did or did not do..
Will BaW be playable after completing main game?
CD Projekt RED told Eurogamer that Blood and Wine is a completely separate story from the original plot found in Wild Hunt. According to the interview, the developers believe they “have achieved something even better than the main game.”
One of things CDPR wanted to do for the expansion was to create a more “charismatic enemy” for Geralt to face, as well as develop a more complex story they believe “players will appreciate.” This is Geralt’s final story according to the interview, so it sounds like CD Projekt RED wants to make it a memorable and lasting experience for players.
It still needs to be confirmed by developers exactly when and at what recommended level the expansion will be playable, however, it was already said that it will be integrated into the main game, but it will be an independent story. So, my guess is that it will probably be similar to Hearts of Stone - you can play it at any time during or after the main quest, but preferably at a high level.
They also aren't being frugal, as they've budgeted 2.3 million Euro's for it's development. That's quite a bit.Hopefully it's a good investment.

Whaaat? There is nothing wrong with Eredin.
Gaunter O'Dimm will eat him for breakfast, and puke the undigested bits all over Auberon's grave.

Well, the Wild Hunt are present in the books, and they're pretty bland there, too, probably the worst part of the novels, so they didn't really have too much wiggle room there, I don't think.
Definitely getting more excited for Blood & Wine, though. They've said all the right things, so far.
Not really. They were secondary at best in the books and were... less hyped than in the games. They did not necessarily add many (complex that is) themes to the work, but they did enhance existing ones. And book Eredin > Game Eredin (which is a very low bar, I admit).
They are fairly coherent and a very ironic entity actually, especially when contrasted with other main thematic elements in the saga till that point. An interesting juxtaposition of the elements of the "legend" of the Wild Hunt in-universe as well as their reality (basically... special forces) also serves to make them more interesting.
Actually CDPR has a good amount of wiggle room. They just wiggled in the wrong direction and not enough in the one where they COULD have wiggled. One of the very few places where they might have caught up to the books.
We shall see on Blood and Whine.
I think I understand the way they went with the WH, though. The WH in the books, like you said, don't really add much (to me the WH should have stayed a legend in the books, as the reality left a lot to be desired). Especially when you take into account the dark fantasy setting. So, they could have tried to explore them and their motivations a lot more, but that would have really bogged down the rest of the game, just to achieve a mediocre villain instead of a... more mediocre one.
And the Wild Hunt is still based on the books, meaning they're still developed there, for people that want to learn more about them - that's the good thing about using characters from the books, they're already fleshed out for you.
But yeah, Blood & Wine - the topic - my speculations are that we'll see some more of the opposition to Emhyr in Nilfgaard (Toussaint is exactly where they're mentioned in the books, too), so a bit of a political angle there, which would be nice. And I'd guess vampires are also going to be involved, because of the title, but we'll see.
Yes, but what I want is a charismatic Wild Hunt. Not another villain
But Eredin looks more evil I think
In comparison with the lovely and sympathic Gaunter...
The main game is more or less perfect. .
No, it is not
To the "original" topic - what you are saying sounds interesting. I honestly have no idea though... I dont know how it will work out at all. I am more worried about those "select separate game from menu" rumors I have been hearing. Is it true?
I hope it is political though. *Though it wont solve BS in main storyline*. And has actual higher vampires. Opposition in Toussaint is unlikely IMHO but we shall see.
That thread is more of a placebo reallyAlright guys, try to tie this into Blood & Wine somehow, please. If you'd like to discuss the merits of the base game, do it here: http://forums.cdprojektred.com/threads/40106-TW3-General-Feedback-SPOILERS
Not sure what you mean by "select separate game from menu". If you mean playing the expansion on its own, like you could with HoS, then yeah, that seemed like an option that was appreciated for HoS, so I imagine the devs would do it again.
And from what I understand, like HoS, B&W is going to be a self-contained story, so I don't think it's supposed to add to the main story directly.
On higher vampires - yeah, Blood & Wine seems to fit as a title for them to be present. The Launch CGI, which has Beauclair in the background, had Geralt fight a vampire as well, so I'm feeling pretty confident about this guess.
As for the opposition, there have been no hints about that, I'm just guessing based on their presence there in the books, and it's something that was touched upon in the main story of the base game.
