I also expected some sort of advantage to be gained from Berengar's notes, perhaps a weakened Beast or something like that.Because that didn't happen I just assumed the riddle was there as an opportunity for Abigail to like you more. She asks if you know the answer, and if you get it right she approves. Then again, that'd be fairly pointless too, since you can sleep with her or not whatever you do.

The Beast riddle is the question of who is innocent. Only by judging the villagers and Abigail you can defeat the Beast, for it appeared because of people evil deeds.

That might make sense except for the fact that at the end of the day, Geralt still has to stick a sword through the thing to drive the point home. Would be cool if you could defeat it through conversation w/ the villagers but that's just not the case.

You get to see the beast three times. It will show up after you help each of the three villagers. By helping them, you show The Beast that you are allied with these evil people.

I recognize the riddle. Also that the answer is a man. Just cannot remember where I heard it before. Think it has it's origans in egyptian lore. Something to do with a sphinx. As the connection to the Beast... it resembles Alzur's Demon, a lion body with a human head. (see above) To me it points out more to Alzur and the "real life" myth then it does to the Beast. Nice "easter egg", that's all. ;)

According to the legend, answering the riddle correctly should weaken the beast, not kill it.When Abigail gives Alvin the potion, we learn that the Beast's question is "Who summoned me"?If we side with Abigail, we get a stronger beast to fight, surrounded by barghests. If we side with the villagers, the beast is much easier to kill and does not have his barghests to help him. So the answer to this riddle should be obvious.

If she weighs the same as a duck...she's made of wood!and therefore......she's a witch!burn 'er!python humor aside, I can't stand hypocritical religious zealots, so it's always worth the extra hassle with the beast to smack them verbally upside the head in that nice speech Geralt gets to make outside of the cave.

;DNice one. But, the answer is man, so it's kinda obvious who's side is best to choose. ;)

I'm not sure the statement that siding with the villagers makes the beast weaker "and does not have his Barghests to help him." I sided with the vilagers and I had to fight the same battle that most others have described and that includes Barghests.

It's from the Greek mythology, more specifically the legend of Oedipus.

Well, that clarifies things. If you don't mind me asking, who do you think was innocent or at least less guilty?

In my opinion, Abigail is less guilty. She is guilty of looking the other way when she should have acted to stop the crimes or at least see justice done afterwards, but that is not quite as bad as doing the evil acts oneself.Cheers! :)

So I wonder what happens to Alvin? Our resident seer/prophet/medium kid?His guardian dies, we leave him with Shani, she gives him to Abigail, and he is kidnapped by a priest. After that he kinda just vanishes....at least so far as I have seen.

He is right... Once you are confronted by the preacher and townsfolk the kid is no where to be seen and as far as I know is never mentioned again.

the game does have a prologue, 5 acts and an epilogue .. not every single NPC features in every part of the story, but Alvin is certainly not restricted to Act 1
