To be honest i find it unballanced when you are not able to choose your profession and finish any enemy in any way you selected your skills.I am plaing in normal mode and have some ok skills on alchemy but rather prefered to spend my points to swordfighting and just some on the magic. Let`s say, i thought it would balance it right the way i put them. After 15 times now getting killed by the beast i am annoyed.I thought go back and take my save before i went down to the cave in the salamander hideout.Well though. When moving around to search for the smith or else, all have vanished by some strange reason. Since i knew they hunt abigale i moved to the cave entrance. None there. Some are very right about this game when talking about unbalanced. The character developement lets you choose your preofeesions and in my opinio it is "unballanced" if your choice (not matter in what way) makes it impossible to finish the first boss. The game has an deep impact and i love the scenery and the athmosphere is places. But as well as happening crashes for no reason and some real ballancing problems combineed lead me to one conclusion i have since atari tries to hype a title.""they put pressure and rush on the developers.Same happend to NWN2, that was also very promissing.PleaseCDProject, work this stuff out.I have a top noth pc, but what the heck do i have to set my resolution on 1280x960 to make a game run "a bit" stable for example.Even then i get abused by crashes and an firsat chapter boss that "pushes" me to spent my skillpoints on magic and/or alchemy to be able to defeat it?Same with the autosave. Why the hell do i have a cutscene to find me in the maiddle of a battle afterward with the boss. Not able to prepare myself or draw my weapon. Why not make the meeting with the boss when being escorting abigale back to her home?! :wall:That way i have to watch the cutscene over and over again.

The major problem with the Beast is that to stand a chance of beating it without dozens of reloads, you have to know a lot of things in advance that a first-time player won't know. No matter how you slice it, that is terrible game design.

Another way to beat the beast is......before you go for the last time to the priest to get the information about the key for the salamadras hiding, kill a guardian. After this speak with the priest and go to shani. After you got the key from the death Innkeeper make a visite in the salamadras hiding. But attention, after leaving the pub a head-hunter appears. Give him little money and he will annoying. Now you have a little time to leave the fortress. But you must be very fast before the head-hunter pulls his sword. During fight you can't open the door to get out of the fortress. Now you go to the salamandras hiding and the cave. After "abigails smalltalk" leave the cave and make a decision for the folowing story. After this, the fight with the beast will beginn. But before the beast-figt the invincible head-hunter appears the second time to ask for the 1000 Orens. You have two opportunities. Pay him and he will still standing at his position. When the beast appears, run to the head-hunter. He is a "fighting devil" and takes the beast for breakfeast. Or you don't pay him and runs away. When the beast appears, the following head-hunter will attack the beast too. But after the beast death you will be his new goal. Easier is the first way. At the beginning of the second act the world will be normal for you.

It's not so hard. I choose to save Abigail and she healed me in battle with beast. First I used group style and when there was only a beast I changed on strong style. I have repeat this style change technique 2 or 3 times and the beast was defeated.

Thanks to this guide now i know how to beat the beast.... I just needed the intellegence lvl up and Aard lvl2 with the rest of the 25% boost on abilites (or w.e). So I'll have to drink blizzard first, then hit it a couple of times, then use the Aard and hope it gets stuned, then it's one hit ko kill. Or I can go with Aard first and get lucky(?) with a stun, and kill it in one blow lol.. easy (I hope). The people that are complaining about the beast being hard, broken, unbeateable, inbalanced, etc. ,obviously, they haven't experienced really hard games or hard things in their lives.

Left click when a character is speaking. That skips that part of the speech. Rinse and repeat, hit number key for choice, left-click again. When yo hit the cutscene, hit esc. NOT DIFFICULT! And you won't have to go through the dialogue every time. That has only been posted about 1537 different times in 875 different "How do I kill he Beast?" threads here, including the sticky thread. So why is anyone still asking this?

This is 100% chace of difeating beast on hard level.1) max your igni sign(4 points total (2 for leveling and 2 for damage boost))2) Before intering the cave with alvin rest for 22:00(21:00 is possible)3) Then boost your signs at power point(blue shard) for 100%4) clear the cave quickly (before midnight)5) Before leaving the cave drink potions boosting your energy and life regeneration6) In the battle just run around in the field striking with igni7) if you are stunned do not try to fight back. as soon it is over start runing again(sorry for my language)

I found a web site that you don't even have to kill the beast, he's already dead. They have game saves that you can post and download for yourself. gameweblinks.com I found a few game saves under the pc game saves web page they made for The Witcher. Its nice not having to keep dying from the beast.

This has got to be the worst spot for a cutscene out of any game I have played. Ever. I know that sounds like a bit harsh, but forgive me and chalk it up to extreme frustration. I have reloaded literally about 20-30 times now, and die every time. Yes, I suck, I know, but I generally play games for the story. I've followed the tips here, but no dice. Since I have absolutely despised crafting in every RPG I've ever played, I think I've come to the realization that the Witcher is just not for me, unfortunately, since some of the tips suggest different bonuses or buffs obtained through crafting. I was really enjoying the gameplay and the story until this point, and was counting this as one of my favorite RPGs possibly ever, but I just can't stomach the thought of clicking through that cutscene one more time to get to the fight. And unfortunately, it doesn't seem like you can change the difficulty level of the game in midstream, which is a bit odd. And I can't buff before the fight, since I magically appear in the middle of the fight after the cutscenes (another strange design decision). So, sadly, that leaves me with one alternative - giving up on the game. Can anybody suggest another way to get past this, for someone with my obviously limited skills? I've tried the Aard sign, strong style recommendation, but the Beast is back on its feet before I even get to it.

Hate to see anyone so frustrated..For whatever its worth, I suspect a number of us had difficulty with the Beast first time outHere's what worked for me:BEFORE leaviing the cave:prep your sword with Spector OilDrink Tawny OwlHave several Swallow Potions handyDuring the fight:Concentrate on the Beast and use group style which will keep his buddies honest.don't worry about Abigail, she won't dieTry using Aard...if you can stun the Beast you can kill it with one hitGood luck!Be well.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. :)I FINALLY got past this fight. Not fun. The two things that helped the most:1. Hitting F1 and switching to overhead view. This allowed me to get a better view, but more importantly, allowed me to run around and avoid everything while I healed up and got my endurance back up (I used Aard sign and then drank Swallow at the very start to heal quicker). It seemed like a cheap tactic, but it worked.2. Keeping Abigal alive. I used Aard and Group style to keep the barghests off of her. Having her alive really helped keep my health up, due to her healing ability. Also, during the one cutscene before the fight, I kept spamming the F5 button, which got me a save I could reload that put me at the start of the fight. In addition to drinking Swallow and Blizzard near the start of the fight, I also used a whetstone (+10% damage on sword) and drank a potion for endurance prior to leaving the cave.I still would make a couple of humble suggestions to the devs for future games (or maybe for a patch for this one):1. Don't put something that prevents a save, like a cutscene, right before a boss battle. I didn't stumble upon spamming the F5 key until I clicked through that cutscene a zillion times.2. Uh, I had a #2, honest, but my brain is so fried from this now that I can't remember. :wall:

@jempe I will take it that you installed the latest patch for the loading time. Now to defeat the best you will need to pause it use Specter oil on your blade and Swallow will help you out as don't bother to much with the Beast dogs use strong style on the beast and Aard sigh on it if your lucky you can stun him and if you can try to keep the rest of the dogs off Abagail she will heal you but if she get knocked out don't worry to much about it

Thx for the advices.yep, I installed the lastest patch but I ll wait for the new patch to play again. My pc is a bit old and don t like HD loading. The thing that is really anoying is to do the cave scene each time I retry....But the witcher stay the first rpg I love the background and its "adult style" :D.... And a beast will not change my feeling so easily after all!!! :D ;)

II'm a new Witcher owner. Have played 'open' RPGs like Morrowind, Oblivion, Fable:TLC and Two Worlds. Common feature I truly liked was the fact that I directed the combat. Slash, parry, spell, heal ... I decided what would happen and when. The loopy combat for the Witcher ('timing style') is a nuisance, but I managed to live with it. That is, until I was thrust into the fight with the Beast. Then it became downright painful. No time to draw my weapon before I was already set upon by the enemy. Standing like an idiot after finally getting my sword unsheathed (I'm pressing keys, clicking the mouse, anything to get a response from Geralt...). When he finally responds, can't hit the Beast ('Too fast' message keeps coming up ... idiot programmers, I'm in the middle of a fight!!! Of course my adrenalin's up and I'll be clicking a tad faster. Stupid combat system.). Oh, yeah and I've got about 15 - 20 seconds before the Beast paralyzes me. After that, it's game over.My game is patched to the latest level (1.2).The Beast doesn't stun (tried aard on retries 8, 11, 12, 14). Abigail drops like a rock shortly after I try to attack the beast, so no healing help there. (retries (3,4,7,13). In other games (Two Worlds especially), you are capable of killing ANY opponent, provided you have the time and the ability to heal. Your level only determines the amount of damage you will inflict and therefore how long it will take to put down your enemy (of course, if your level is too low and he hits you, it's lights out). BUT in this battle the odds are so stacked against you. For example, finding out that Pain paralyzes you during a boss battle is not great if you've never encountered it before and hence have no way to defend against it (raise your hands, all of you who read and understood the manual before ever launching the game. Hmmm, no hands ....). I've experienced my share of being killed by a superior opponent, but usually never encountered them until I was at a level where killing them was at least a possibility. So far, the storyline is trully intriguing. But it's a wasted effor if I cannot move along the timeline due to poor design(always allow a save point prior to a boss battle, and NEVER run cutscenes directly into a battle unless they are directly related (the mob is at the cave, the Beast is in town ... give me a little time to walk back first).). fyi, I'm playing on the 'normal' level of difficulty, where it states that alchemy is 'helpful', not necessary. Therefore I should be able to beat the Beast with just my sword and skill alone. The Witcher holds such promise of a worthwhile gaming experience' I hope it doesn't turn into a major disappointment simply because I don't know the 'formula' for defeating a boss. After all, I paid for an RPG, not an arcade game. Will update if I'm successful with the Beast,. (retriy 20)
