Don't you need it to enter the Half-Elf's house?

there's a house in which you find that half-elf first time, if you don't need a key for that, then probably there is no need for it at all...

By first time, do you mean the house in the slums or the house opposite Vivaldi's? I think the key opens the latter.

the key you find on the bad guy's body in A Ghost story is merely the key to that very house where the battle takes place. I've checked it. If you do not pick up that key, you cannot get back into that house, otherwise it remains available.

Thanks for clearing that up game widow.(P.S. I once managed to decapitate one of the thugs in the first house and his head landed in a bucket. I took a screenshot and labelled it "Hole in one". Damned if I can find it now. :D

*laugh* No matter how many times you play the game, cool stuff can still happen! If you do happen to find that screenshot, please post it -- such accuracy should be immortalized. :)

I'm nearing the end of Act 2, so I just had a quick look through a walk through to see if I have missed anything important, and I see this:
During your explorations of the slums part of the Temple Quarter, you’ll encounter a thug who will tell you about a haunted house with a treasure inside. However, when you enter the haunted house, you’ll discover that the story was a trap, and four bandits will attack you. After defeating the bandits, you’ll find a half-elf girl imprisoned in the house, and when you rescue her (by talking to her) she’ll tell you to meet her in a house in the non-human sector of the Temple Quarter. When you find her there, she’ll quiz you on the elven language, and as long as you don’t select the “stupid white wolf” dialogue option, she’ll end up having sex with you.
Now I have been there and done that, but didn't meet any half-elf girl, although there is a dead body in the cellar which I can't loot or see any info on - is this her? I didn't actually see her get killed?

She doesn't get killed. If you're standing in that house with your back to the door, she's usually by the middle of the left wall.

Hmmm........ that's odd because I didn't see her, I did this quite a while ago, so I don't expect she will still be there if I go back!! :D

if you never spoke to her, and you still have the key, there is every chance she's still standing there waiting to thank you :peace:

There are two haunted house quests (three, actually, but two take place in the same house) If you fought wraiths and graveirs, you are in the wrong house for the half elf girl quest. The wrong house has a corpse in the cellar. The wraiths and graveirs are in the house near the dike gate and sewer entrance. The half elf girl is in the house near Ramsmeat's house. Pay attention to the quest entries, the map and the journal in general. When in doubt, track the quests on the map.

Good point again Edi :)the quest is called Ghost story ... but there are no ghosts (or spectres, or wraiths) ... so it's easy to get confused.
the "ghost story" house is the one in the slums, west of Ramsmeat's place

Damnit, I've never even found this quest! Just a thug in the slums you say? Sweet! Any specific time you need to find this thug? Ah, must go looking ;D

I've had the best luck finding the thug early in the morning. He is in the house opposite the warehouse where you meet Vincent for the midnight raid. He tells you about the other house (where the half-elf is)

It unlocks the ghost story house, as well as gives you an entrance into the sewers from beneath the stairs to the slums (just below the Order Armorer)

This was such a great side quest, and i missed it on my first two plays through, but I will never miss it again. It only takes a few minutes, but it is soo much fun~smile~ go around 6 am, I think to the first location, then do the next location and then the last location. Easy.

I can't figure out what the key you get off the bandit in "A Ghost Story" is for. (The quest were you save the half elf woman.) What does it go to?

I believe it lets you exit the house you entered :)
