[ACT II] Gramps

I accidently went throughout the Vizima and went all the way to the bogs or wtv they're called. I did a quest or two on the little island area, but found gramps eating a person, had to kill him. Now, i find out, that to find out more info about the Tower for Kalkenstiens trust, i have to talk to him, but i can't since i killed him ... is it important to talk w/ Gramps or is it not? need help very fast.

I've completed Kalkstein without talking with Gramps, don't think you need him. Gramps drives me nuts.

Think you've misunderstood. Gramps isn't part of getting into the Mage's tower. Sure it isn't Vaska you should talk to? I killed that bugger too when I found out his "taste"

If you map the swamp before talking to Gramps but don't go into his hut before that, you get all kinds of interesting stuff out of him if you take the scenic route to the shrine. He'll tell you stuff about the following:1) Clay pits2) Three Islands section, he gives you two formulas (Maribor Forest potion and King & Queen bomb)3) Any place of power, another dialogue, guaranteed to get it at druid circle4) Mage tower entrance, you get the base entry for the Mage tower. Then take him to Melitele shrine and get the last info out of him and he sods off to his hut. Then go there and kill him. You get the cannibal quest right before you talk to him. If you go to the hut, get the quest and talk to him again and you have not already done the pilgrimage quest, you will never get the pilgrimage quest at all and miss out on the quest exp and the list above. One of the things that most annoys me about the game is that the journal entries are not automatically sorted into logical order, but appear in the order you read stuff, resulting in entries being chronologically out of order. For example, the base entry of the mage tower comes from Gramps. The second entry comes from Secret Gates, which most people probably read before they go to the swamp. The third entry comes from Ain Soph Aur. So unless you are careful, you can get them really scrambled. You need to be similarly careful with some of the books, like Lara's Gift (read first) and Story of Lara Doreen and Cragen Lod (read second) or History of the world (1) and Recent History (2). Reading them in the wrong order can make for some VERY confusing journal entries.

SPOILERS ON GRAMPS APPLY HERE. Do not read further unless you wish to learn more about Gramps.------Gramps asks you to go to some shrine when you 1st get on the island. I ignored this as I was getting dusted by some creatures out there, so I reloaded, and left him at the dock. That is ok. He is a *side* quest. (Note: I never took him to the shrine, so I do not know what occurs if you do.) Now for the spoiler...If you go NORTH of Vaska's house, there will be a hut/house. Once you go inside, and discover what is in it, go back and talk to Gramps at the dock. Ask him about your discovery. He will leave. Go back to the hut/house and there you have two options. Let him go or fight him. I decided to fight him. As soon as you leave the hut/house, he will appear (with three friends in the distance) and he is TOUGH. Be prepared. Blizzard will help. Steel sword too. I either used hard or fast. Can not recall. Once you take him out, you can take care of his three friends, or just run by him.

Yaaaaaayyyy!!!! Happy for you!!!!!!And don't worry, there will be lots more confusing and frustrating quests that will leave Geralt wishing for an evening just peacefully hanging out in the local bar, having a cold one and gambling away the hours.....

I lost gramp[s from the start in the swamp. I have completed the majority of the other quests. Gramps is near the dock but he wont follow me and I cant just kill him. I have been to his hut a couple of times. I have the mage tower door open but want to finish the minor quests be fore entering it. How do I get gramps to follow me or how can I catch him in the act and kill him? :peace:

Did you accept the "Pilgrimage" from him and set off to the shrine? He tells Geralt a lot of interesting things. Sometimes when you leave the path to look at that cave Gramps just have mentioned, he is gone when you return. You find him near the ferry landing but won't follow you anymore. This happens from time to time, I don't if it's intension or a bug but you can't persuade him to go with you and you can't finish the quest. Maybe in your case you take a previous save before you set off with Gramps and then make no side trips ;)

Something I noticed recently about Gramps that I found a little odd is that there is no character sheet for him.I wouldn't call Gramps a 'major player' but there's certainly a fair few characters who are not as developed as Gramps who get a character sheet while the poor old man misses out on one.

i was also a bit perplexed as to who "rated" a journal entry and who did not ...

Indeed it's true, he is not a lonely oddball far away from civilisation. If Geralt kills him it has an impact on his relationship with the lumberjacks.

I was trying to finish the quest with the echinops rootstocks but could not find any of them around the swamp although it was crawling with who-knows what else. I even read where to find them and how but still with loading time and time again I could not find a single one for hours. So then I decided to kill Gramps and they were waiting for me outside, as predicted. What really annoys me is that they were all over the place thereafter along with archespores. So I think if you are in this situation, Gramps' life is worth it in exchange for you to gain hours of yours :D

If you go back to an earlier save, doing the quest for yaren bolt (the lumberjack) should net you all the echinops rootstocks you require

having my own problem with gramps...I took him to the shrine did a couple of the side quests but as I am on hard taking him to every place at that point in time was next to impossible...quick way to die. I go to his house now and can get very close to him see that he is eating people but I don't get the cannibal quest. I can even talk to him but nothing happens. Is this quest completly borked for me now? Thanks!

I never had killing Gramps impact my dealings with the lumberjacks. Could you describe the circumstances with more detail? :)I thank you for your timeGorthuar of MirtheMaster of Arcane Magick
