[ACT II] Tip for Coccacidium and Wyverns (spoilers)

In case it hasn't yet been mentioned (didn't see it in any other threads), I stumbled upon an effective strategy for fighting the coccacidium and wyverns. After spending most of chapter II running away from the coccacidium, I sided with the dwarves and elves in Force Recon and led them against the Order scout force. Instead of taking them back to camp afterwards, I decided to see if they'd follow me around. The next instant I find myself attacked, yet again, by the coccacidium, and my loyal dwarven and elven allies immediately came to my defense and we killed it in no time, without using any buffs. Also took them with me to help against the wyverns, and, although none of them made it home, they helped me through the first couple of waves of wyverns (I wasn't very good at drawing off just one at a time).

I also repeated ran/died on account of Coccadicium at first. Then I tried using strong style attacks instead of fast, and things became rather easier a lot faster! ::)I never thought of getting allies to help though... (but i did manage to get most of them killed before they reached the Order!)

I'm having problems with the Coccacidium in Chapter II as well, will try this.Is the steel or silver sword best for this creature?

It's a monster which is created at the scene of a particularly horrible crime if I remember correctly. It is sensitive to silver, so I used silver. Haven't tried with steel, although the echinopsae in act ! did die (eventually) to it.

Strong Silver is best for the oversized vine. Also, Golden Oriole is just about required (probably even moreso than Blizzard) because of all the damage Poison dishes out.Anyway, a surefire way to kill Coccacidium is to just stack Golden Oriole, Blizzard, and Swallow with all three secondary potion effects (Rubedo, Albedo, Nigredo). Use Group Silver to kill whatever Drowners might pop out from the water around it and Strong Silver when you're one-on-one with the thing. This kind of preparation really makes any major battle a cinch.

There's a plant monster in the swap -- one of theose stationary guys like the Echinops, but it colored red and has a name like "Cicciopteryx" or something that I'm not remembering properly. I encounter it when I'm taking Gramps to the shrine, right after the two mutilated body objects. How do I kill this thing? Its aggro radius is too great to get around, and it takes me out in 4-5 hits. Help please? Or am I doing things in the wrong order? I've explored the Temple Quarter and done most but not all things there. Thanks!

Well I had a bit of trouble with it also but how I beat it was by sucking down some Swallow and Tawny before facing it - then I hit it with 2 waves of Igni (which I have at Level 2 by this point in the story) before wading in using Heavy style. You can also fire off repeated waves of Igni and then back up out of range (yes, it's possible) while healing up but that's a pretty slow way to do it. Good luck, it's definitely possible early on, in the Swamp, to beat it, just need some luck and preparation (and patience)! ;)

It is possible even without potions, you just have to stay out of range.Of course it helps if you already killed the other monsters around. But basically it is fire, fire and fire again lot of patience needed though. And you can kill that anytime in second act. So take your time.

Drink a Swallow and Bindweed, use Igni and strong silver style, if possible use a whetstone or better for your blade.I fought it with Igni and strong style, everytime Geralt's health was too low he ran out of range of the poisonous spitting, recovered and launced the next attack. I guees, it took ca 3 attempts until the plant finally remained as flabby weed. It's a trophy btw you can give to Vincent Meis.

When you run "out of range" just make sure you don't run too far or the plant will start anew with full health. If you don't kill it in its original location, it will pop up all over the swamp, usually at the worse times.

I've had the same problems with this same thing. Is it just one? I've been avoiding it, and keep running into it all over the swamp. Especially on the trail to the tower it pops up constantly. I thought it was more than one plant.

There is only one of it, but it spawns all over the place until you kill it. I didn't use Igni on it, just pre-buffed with Swallow and Blizzard and, as Petra Silie stated, used a grindstone on a Strong Silver Sword and retreated when low on health. I've killed it before I do anything else in the swamp, but Qdude's comment is interesting: would it still be available in Chapter 3 as Vincent suggests the location of it in Chapter 2, but is not on "trophy collection" duty in Chapter 3?

Killed it on Hard just with Rubedo (the pot that regens energy). Spammed Igni and used Strong Silver style.

I wonder what I've been doing wrong, then -- I've been hitting it with Igni and it hasn't seemed to do anything. I get the lightshow for it and nothing else. The plant's health bar doesn't go down any. I'll modify my tactics somewhat, using the suggestions given here. Thanks!

Well,i did it in the end of act 2 when i killed almost every monster in the swamp.Igni sign upgraded as much as possible.I stayed out of hit range (sorry,if i was not too precise in my last post)dodging those arrows which the damned thing spits on you, going back and forth.I did not notice the full health regeneration (in medium difficulty at least) and it stayed in one place (near the gramps house )again, for me,where i noticed him the 1-st time with some Echinops around. And as a result i ran like hell because that was some serious surprise, like WHOOOAH,and then i am almost dead. The 2 time when i found it there again i tried to kill that thing with sword (silver, fast style)and some help from signs (Aard,it stuns pretty well and Igni). And ran again.Last time (in the same place) i tried with the Igni sign and was quite amazed when i killed it.During the battle i did not used potions.I hope it helps somehow.

I killed Coccacidium (I checked the name ;D )the first time Geralt entered the swamp just to avoid that it shows up in an inoportune moment. I did some necessary quests in the temple distrct to get 1 or 2 levels and then ventured out for the nasty plant.@AnamachaCoccacidium is a boss plant and an archespore, advanced species of echinopse. It takes longer to kill Cocca, so don't worry ;)
