Its not a multiplier, the higher your diff.,the lesser xp points awarded.
Want to get full exp. for quests? Switch to Normal diff. mod and enjoy.
Want your game to be harder? Have it harder, stronger enemies, lesser xp for quests.

Ok. So with less xp rewarded for quests I can finish the game and never wear high-lvl armor and weapons? What, I have to grind for it? For days getting 1 exp for lvl 30 monsters? And you think it's normal?

No, that's never going to happen. There is still more than enough XP to overlevel the content quite severely, you just need to do more quests.

It's not just "harder" it's "less satisfying" first of all. If game design suggests I have to get less xp to keep things hard, all I can say is that's bad design.

Most people reported finishing the game with almost 100% complete quests at 33-37 level. And that's before 1.04, so without xp glitch and / or reduction. From what I heard, there are things in the game that require 40 lvl. One will never ever be able to even try them on higher difficulties now.

Lvl 35 is an okay lvl to finish the game, when lvl 40 would be the cap for now, achivable with grinding.
(lvl 35 is classified as being "munchkin" by the Steam)
Past 40 stuff is for expansion pass.

Exactly my thoughts. In two words - bad design.

Yeah but as I said earlier, you have to keep in mind that since you will get less XP in general, you will have more chance to get XP from quests, that would otherwise be grey. But since you got less XP, they're now still green and reward significantly more.

Didn't notice the bug before the 1.05 patch. It could have happened a couple of times but nothing too major for me to acknowledge. After 1.05 I'm getting 5 xp or 10 xp no matter what quest I do. Even on the grey quests I think, not to mention higher level ones. I'm currently on Kings Gambit quest which is lvl 18 (green) and I'm 22. I get 10 xp at most.

But my Geralt is level 21... did a level 19 contract, received 50 xp. Did a level 24 contract, received nothing. And i did a level 24 quests (black armorers) and got nothing from that either.... killed some level 15 wolves got about 5 xp each, killed a level 19 cyclops right after that, and got nothing....

I know that killing monsters isn't a great xp source... but i find this strange....

L35 normally at the end of the game with a -20% penalty means no mastercrafted witcher gear and superior only when nearing the very end (i.e. well past the point of no return). It's more than 7 levels lost because the curve flattens out in the 30's.

King's Gambit is one of the quests still bugged post-1.05. The suggested level is 18, but the actual level in rewards.xml is only 16. So it's grey to you at 22.

I take that there is not aN xp Scaling base on how Overlevel you are when you do a quest. Digging bigger hole....

Game just telling you best to do quests as close to your level which is next to impossible. Its not fun to have to pick quest base on the level & not the order you want it, like most game.

I got it, its to prevent overleveling, which already happen to me & many people, but thats not how to do it. Its just Bad design, & now its worst.

I was in the camp against enemies scaling to your level, but after the poor imprementation & duct tape fixing in leveling & XP we have, I think I much prefer monster scaling to your level like Skyrim.

Perhaps, at least from my experience on PS4 1.04, the patch didn't really fix the core problem of the bug should it have already kicked in, but prevents it from occurring if it's a bugless save? (When I got no XP for a quest I stopped immediately, started again with that quest and XP seems to be working okay- only discrepancy was for "The Family Sword", YouTube said 75, I got 5 XP whilst it was green (but only just), so that may be intentional descaling)
Or maybe there were a number of factors causing the bug, and CDPR only found and solved a few rather than the whole bug?

Family Blade is suggested level 15, actual level 12... so L18+ you only get 5 xp for it.

Really don't understand what was so hard about just setting all quests to actual level = suggested level. They did some of them, but they missed a whole bunch of others. I also don't understand why Destination: Skellige is level 16 yet the place is full of quests that range from 11 to 15. There should not be a single quest on that entire map lower than level 16.

I found something funny as well.

The recommended level for the Ursine set is 20.

The recommended level for the Ursine upgrade is 12 =D

Yeah, the top 2 ursine upgrade locations are guarded by level 6 nekkers and a level 6 bear. No idea what they were thinking there.

First of all, The Witcher 3 is a remarkable game, it’s one of the greatest role-playing games I've played thus far…I don’t enjoy voicing my displeasure of video games, and it’s disappointing seeing and reading fellow gamers berating. But, I'm unsettled at the moment due to feeling as if Patch 1.05 hasn’t properly resolved the experience bug. Prior I wasn’t receiving any experience points after completing a quest within five levels, and now I’m receiving very little experience points upon completing quests.

i guess CDPR think it's a story game - not an RPG game anymore. Ok then, goodbye.

I'd assumed it was based on a combination of required level to equip and the level of monsters nearby, so maybe the upgrade is in a less dangerous area? (Can't be certain as haven't been)

I've been reading a lot of posts, and there seem to still be a lot of confusion about how the xp works, people still complaining about getting 5 xp, yet they fail to notice, the quest is out of range (aka you are too high level for it). One of the problems seem to be that because this thread is "HUGE", people dont bother reading through it and miss some important information. So I'm going to repost what Mighty91's said which clarifies most of the stuff, hopefully CDPR will make something a small sticky thread, maybe "XP game mechanics - READ FIRST BEFORE POSTING" (just a suggestion), for people to understand how things work before complaining about a bug:

With patch 1.05 you will be able to advacne no matter what.
First of all,if you are getting no xp or 5-10 xp,check for: (at 1.05 patch, ofc):
1) If the quest is 6 lvls bellow or ABOVE its suggested lvl,if it is,you are not supposed to get anything or just low amounts.
2) If it is in you green range, check any of youtube playthroughs to ensure it SHOULD give your xp. (most of the quests, aka TH,Master armors and swords, should not).
3) Dont rush hight lvl quests, even if you are in suggested range, aka dont do lvl 25 quests if u just hit lvl 20,postpone it till the actual lvl match.
4) You get less xp for higher difficulties, so if you notice you are getting like 80% only, it's normal, it's not a bug.
