I reported some dropping fps issues and Marcin Momot replied ---> http://forums.cdprojektred.com/threads/41395-Patch-1-03-is-now-LIVE-in-EU-amp-select-countries-(coming-everywhere-soon)?p=1709354&viewfull=1#post1709354

You can complain a lot (I do too), but they are working on it.

Stutter ≠ Framerate or NPC load texture

You asked, I answered. By the way you can continuing complaining again. Here on the forum and twitter they are saying "working on it". But if you don't want to know...

Regards.

EDIT:
framerate or stuttering, we don't know what it is yet (performance issue? bug?). I bet it's some kind of weird bug related to particles/ torches. I'm playing pretty well since there are no rain nor fire effects on screen, despite a lot of polygons, people walking around, etc. are shown.

but why make fun of yourself saying that everything is fine?!? the frame drops are tremendous struggles and even in cutscenes .. if you are working on a patch as 1.03 then we are in bad shape as it has made things worse!

I'm so glad they're aware of the stutter, but that and the framerate drops are two completely separate issues. The stutter doesn't even happen if you move the left stick alone to make Geralt run in circles (which then makes the camera move). It only happens when moving the right stick, and only at slow-medium speeds. Such a weird bug.

It's an indication of an over-used frame buffer - the camera doesn't stutter when moving Geralt around in a circle only using the left stick because there's a natural lag to his movements allowing the engine to predict where the camera is moving to next. And if you understand how frame buffers work (it's basically the "max pre-rendered frames option with an NVIDIA GPU) you'd realize it's intrinsically tied to the frame-rate. The frame buffer can be used to great effect to reduce obvious FPS drops if they fall below a certain threshold (30fps in this case) for a short time. The problem is when the frame rate drops below this threshold for more than just a very short time it results in stutter which can appear even worse than just low FPS in some cases.

They could always increase the buffer which means the frame rate can drop below the threshold for a slightly longer period of time but then run the risk of increasing the input delay to the point where Geralt is uncontrollable.

This technology is similar to the 60Hz smoothing option for modern HDTVs. If you have ever tried enabling this for your console games the result is surprisingly smoother FPS usually but the input lag will make you want to set your TV back to "gaming mode" without the buffers and other special effects.

I'm getting completly ignored on both twitter accounts when I mention "frame rate" issues on the ps4.

The game is still selling like crazy. They are going to downplay the performance issues as much as they possibly can. I have faith in the devs and their ability to fix it but don't expect it any time soon. I'd put money on at least 2 more weeks before any noticeable improvement patch.

Guys, can you all please stop it. You are ruining it for everyone else by constantly moaning. Yes the frame rate is terrible but put some surround sound head phones in and you won't notice it as much as the sound will immerse you just that little bit more - it's a balancing act.

Please hurry up and fix it though CD Projekt or people might start taking it back under the trade description act which states - if a product is not fit for purpose then it can be deemed faulty and returned.

putting surround sound head phones on would only piss me off hearing sounds from people that are not there because the patch removed them from the game, no thank you. And this is a technical support forum exactly to report every little problem we run into so people do exactly that.

It's not clear whether the removal of NPCs was intentional or not at this point since CDPR has so far ignored the topics made about it. Unfortunately unless you had visited the areas prior to the 1.03 patch you wouldn't even realise the NPCs are missing.

Not only that, now the ones that are there take forever to load and if the don't you have to mediate for them to show up. Anyone having that issue?

I'm sure the REDs are working hard to fix the issues, but it'll take some time.
We have to cut them some slack because this is the first time they've released a game on three platforms, and they might have gotten overwhelmed as the result.
But the game was fine before the 1.03 patch, and it looked much better and performed much better in my opinion. I really preferred some occasional framerate drops to the situation we are in right now.
Anyways we have to give them some time and give them constructive feedback instead of throwing anger tantrums. I know it is frustrating, but we have to keep in mind that CDPR would never make their game worse with a patch on purpose.

I've paused my Witcher 3 playthrough for now until the next patch launches, meanwhile I am catching up with some other games.

Wow there are some very angry trolls here .. I can understand peoples frustrations, maybe that is why they haven't released the new Patch here in Australia yet, because of all the Whinging you guys are doing who have the 1.3 patch installed? If so thanks for whinging lol It's important to let the developers know if you are not happy but saying stupid things like the game is broken and CDPR should never have released W3 on the PS4 is just stupid, and doesn't help anyone. I am playing on the Original 1.01 patch and haven't noticed any issues, very few framerate issues, textures look fine, no crashing etc. Not sure why some people are reporting issues while other peoples experience is fine, maybe there is problems with some peoples W3 installs maybe a re-install will help?

My post was unbelievably deleted for saying that it was pretty cheeky to demand us to be patient when we have paid 60+ for a game that doesn't work. It's like going to a movie (an expensive one) and being put out in the first 20 minutes and told to just be patient until they can fix it. While they spend your money.

Yesterday, because of this thread I decided to check my game and see if there are any visual downgrades between 1.02 and 1.03.

I used a ton of pictures I had from 1.02 and decided to visit the same places at the same time and try and get the same weather/lighting effects to make a proper comparison.

I did all that and checked shadows, checked AF, draw distance that have been reported here.

And I found ZERO difference at all. The shadows are the same the LOD of both shadows and objects is the same, the AF is exactly as it was and the draw distance is just how it was.

Then I went to Novigrad to check if it was deserted. And it was anything but deserted. I stayed in Novigrad for 2 full game days advancing time to check if NPCs disappear under certain conditions and they didnt...

By this post I am not saying that people are lying and that their Novigrads are not deserted, but I am certain now that they experience some short of bug or glitch or something. Novigrad was full of life for me, NPCs were everywhere.

As to the visual downgrades, I dont know if we have here also another case of glitches, but my game looks exactly the same it did before 1.03 patch. I checked various locations and the results were always the same. Perhaps this is a strong case of placebo if this isnt also another glitch, i cant think of anything else really. Perhaps 1.03 patch effed up the gfx quality for some, or maybe the lighting conditions that varry so much (and can sometimes can make the game to look washed out) can mislead people.

My game is not visually downgraded at all. Its just the framerate that still sucks.

Patch 1.03 did absolutely nothing performance wise and they knew it. They actually hoped it would show a placebo effect in the opposite direction in that people would think the game was smoother simply because they were told the patch would fix this.

Still getting stuttering. This is unacceptable CD projekt. I will be returning my game under the trading standards act if it isn't fixed within a week which states I can return any product not fit for purpose.

Nobody says "everything is fine".

By the way, I played The Witcher 3 1.00v and I have to tell that White Orchad was plenty of zones with stuttering/ drop framerating (I'm not talking about panning camera issues). PLENTY. Then 1.01v fixed all this (a lot of people haven't noticed that), so I guess the rest of the game will be fixed through next patches.

People who don't believe that, please make your own test. Think by yourself.
