Age of braindance decadence: We didn’t get rid of our problems, we multiplied them

I’d imagine Braindances would be primarily used as a form of pornography if our current technologies are any indication :p

This world, this setting... it reflects some parts of my subconscious and my dreams. I am so looking forward to this great game! And I'll be glad to lend any support I can.

Just be careful when messing with memories, it could end up with your parents' memories, criminals' memories, or somebody's memories that full with something that you'd better not know

Very interesting read.

Now imagine someone to rig it to overwrite memories. That could lead to some sort of 'programming' people to do exactly what you want them to do.

Dolls to cause diversions in other places so you can do your job, scapegoats who actually believe that they did something (wrong), 'dolls' for the rich, witnesses who 'forget' what they witnessed, etc. This could lead to some really nasty stuff - and if something like this would be possible, then you can be sure someone will use it in this fashion.

Explain this... well. Rather a hard sell, to be honest, given that a significant chunk of the population is addicted to it. Sure, some. Not to the point where one of the spectators can exaggerate "most of you. The obvious flaws are fairly obvious, after all.

Brain dance is the ultimate form of Movie / video game type interaction makes you feel your there and depending on the safety protocols in place might even kill you

Everything from Pornography
To the sick guy in a wheel chair that wants to live a mass murder
to how to vids on car repair and cyber installation

Definitely a movie to watch. Dark, gritty, and fits braindancing well.

Johnny Mnemoric is another one (although not so good) which is based on a short story of William Gibson. There you'll get some good hints on what might happen if you have too much cyberware.

Johnny Mnemonic was a good movie, but I referred to Strange Days for this thread because Strange Days deals directly with braindance, which is the subject of this thread...Johnny's story...well, why don't we start a thread perhaps, discussing what could go wrong with mucking about in the old brain box...from legal cyber to back alley repaisrs because the local cornerdoc clinic refuses to see you after last weeks shoot out.

Similar to that scene in Minority Report, where you had that dude in the club having sex with a virtual prostitute. Except, that's considerately what could be called "assisted braindance"?

I've translated the text to Spanish, if English is troublesome for you, read it here: La decadencia de Cyberpunk 2077

Err... in your article you say Cyberpunk 2077 is an MMORPG!? *head explodes* What it is is an open-ended single player computer RPG, not a... *shivers* MMO...

Good job translating the original post though. I am sure many people will appreciate it.

Back on track, is it just me or Braindance is pretty much like a Sensory Stone from Planescape: Torment? They also create addiction, like with that lady lingering at the Sensate Hall.

We're still light years away from understanding neural coding well enough to extract memories, knowledge or sensory information. But assuming this is a all possible, the very concept opens up many interesting possibilities. What would, for example, corporations do with such knowledge? In a way, sensory stones and braindance are enhanced forms of our primitive forms of entertainment, a.k.a. books, movies, video games. All let us live different lives, through different eyes.

Braindance also makes me think, just a little bit, of Mercerism and Empathy Boxes from "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?". The main use of the latter is spiritual and emotional stabilization, but I suppose that is also a form of recreation. Difference is Empathy Boxes are "live" and everyone plugged in share their experiences and emotions, these are not simply distributed in a convenient container. But still, Mercerism could be spread through Braindance. It's too bad they left this part out of Blade Runner.

CD Projekt already has some experience with something similar to braindancing. In the Witcher 2 it was called necromancy and allowed to live through memories of another person (even different versions of the memories as it was interactive). This might provide some hints at possible executions.

Thanks Volsung84, I will correct this >< my bad

You are right! Stepping in the shoes of Serrit and Auckes is an excellent example of how braindancing could be implemented, if CDPR wanted to make it interactive. Just make it a little more... psychedelic!

Sorry if I was a little snarky :p I'll be more constructive in the future. And thanks for actually including the changes. Your writing is very eloquent and fluent, and that was also a great translation.

that's how i had always wished.. a game that take in serious consideration the pencil & paper rpg and follow the tecnology & climax that was presented in it
