Alien Isolation: Last Survivor

Did anyone else notice the origami unicorn that CA put in there?

Nope. Never finished the original. Great game, beautiful, well designed. FUCK unkillable..anything. And definitely enemies.

Maybe try it again in the fall. Then go play FO4 with the mod so I can do in anything and everything if it tries to kill me.

Yeah I was a little disappointed that you couldn't kill the aliens after you get a flame thrower. Even the revolver should be able to kill one seeing as how small arms fire from weapons like the VP70M seems to do it.

Then again, those were Marines using those pistols. And if a Marine holds a gun, apparently it becomes a much more deadly and able-to-kill-any-amount-of-anything-even-though-the-creatures-you-are-fighting-killed-a-whole-platoon-of-other-marines-without-losing-many-numbers-and-you-are-only-one-guy type of gun. As scientifically proven by Corporal Christopher T. Winter.

the premise of the game is escape and evasion. the alien could have been replaced by anything. it's not terribly bad, but it's not good either. the atmosphere is pretty nice, and i enjoyed the story development typical of these types of running away simulators/horror games, the gameplay fails pretty much because of the randomness of the alien's behavior. it just spawns at a location close to the player and then homes in, making it impossible to utilize any intelligent trickery or strategy beyond the methods they provide, ie a variety of noise makers, which all amounts to creating a distraction somewhere to lure the alien to it, then sneak past. rinse repeat. i got very bored.

also, 90% of the humans in this game will shoot you on sight or after a 5 second warning phase. alien the film was compelling because of the human drama. this game contains none of that, and introduces very stupid behavior not seen in any of the alien movies for good logical and tension buildings reasons.

a lot of the "awesome ai" illustrated on youtube is just power of suggestion and projecting intelligence onto otherwise random behavior.

the game is built on the original vision of the alien by ridley scott o'bannon, giger, et al. a virtually indestructible biomechanical organism. the cameron version was basically a shoot em up that turned the aliens into something akin to ants.

Yeah. The athmosphere is probably the best I've experienced. You truly feel as if you're in the Alien universe.

Maybe only Jedi Knight is on par in terms of cinematic experience.

But the gameplay is rather poor. While others have classified it as a horror game, I did not feel that it was scary in the least.

Okay, I don't disagree it's escapoe and evasion based and I like that. That's how I generally play stealth-type games.

My issue is that it's not the Alien was so lethal-deadly or so clever-nasty or so freaky-scary, it's that it was unkillable. Unlike in Alien, where of course it could be killed but it was too nasty, tough and freaky -to- kill with the limited toys they had, in A:I you cannot kill it, even if you master your fear, get good gear and set a clever trap.

And that I can't stand.
